Today me and my corp mates where having a nice fleet engage ment in a WH system. Needless to say we lost however one of our ships escaped to the connecting lowsec system 2 jumps out with the enemy fleet in pursuit.
He had a good 30 sec to get away so he cloaked on the other side, the fleet where trying for 5 min to decloak using the normal methods of drones and orbiting the gate. After 5 min one of the pilots sent him a private chat invite and after about 2 min he accepted to chat with him. However as soon as the chat was opened the pilot burned form 22k and hit him decloaking his ship.
This resulted in an expensive loss for him, normally this is not a problem he can afford to replace his ship 50 times over but when he asked the pilot about this he come up with all kinds of excuses to why it happened. First he said it was a bug with the tactical cam that allowed him to triangulate the pos on grid , then he said he just got lucky (from 22k ).
Once he said he was reporting the incident to CCP he couldn't get away from the chat faster. So my question is is this a known exploit or is there a legit method of finding out a ships exact location on grid via an ingame chat invite? If so how is this done?

Sometimes people will throw a convo and a fleet invite at the same time if your not careful you can accept both then all he has to do is hit approach on fleet mate

Most definitely wasn't a fleet invite ,he was already in a fleet. CCP have been notified and hopefully they see the logs. We all understand that eve has great emergent game play. But if player's are using hidden expliots to overcome the mechanics of module's then I'm sure it's a clear violation of the EULA. |

Now the real question is, why the **** did he stay on grid for so long? Especially if he had a *head start* and could have gotten away long before his pursuers even get there.
When you don't know the difference between there, their, and they're, you come across as being so uneducated that your viewpoint can be safely dismissed. The literate is unlikely to learn much from the illiterate.

Golems don't cov-ops cloak - so if he didn't feel he could make warp before they jumped through the wormhole and tackled him, once he made the decision to cloak he was stuck. |

Eh... he probably could have warped off to a moon.
It's possible that there is a way to combine a chat request with the tracking camera function with a couple of quick clicks. We find little bugs here and there often enough. It's likely just bad luck on your buddy's part. Can't hurt to ask, though.
I have a passing curiousity in borderline-exploit interface quirks. |
