EVE is a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge game. Gigantimous. And a timesink like nobody's business. In the old single-player space empire games like Master of Orion, you've got multiple races and play styles available. I know for myself, I never had the time to try every single one out. The games were just that huge. Still, if I played obsessively and with dedication, I could try them all out. But in EVE? No way. There are people still actively building characters started the day the game went live.
If this were Warcraft, I could see the point. You hit 60 on a character, there's nothing left but to start another one. You can work your way through all the options and enjoy.
But this is EVE. I made the character choice I did because I liked the way the portrait looked and the occupation because mining sounded a lot safer than combat. As it turns out, I've been missioning the most. I don't think I'll even start training for more mining skills until I'm handling level IV's easily.
So, do people really get to explore the different bloodlines much? Is this the sort of thing that five account obsessive players do?
Just curious.

Eh, bloodlines are really only there for diversity of appearance, specialization skills, and attributes. A Caldari Civire or Deteis would be a better choice for high charisma than an Achura for instance, but Achura would be better for rounding all of the attributes at 9 +/-1, stuff like that. If you want to be Gallente you shouldn't be locked into looking like Brian Peppers so they've got Intaki and Jin Mei, if you're amarr you shouldn't have to look like an aged bald infant, etc. -----

Um, no, I don't think people start from scratch just to see what the game is like with slightly different starting attributes... -
If you go into your options menu, there's a difficulty slider. Put that all the way over to the easiest setting and you'll be fine. |

Edited by: Akita T on 10/03/2007 20:57:41 Well, the only thing the diferent bloodlines used to affect are the distribution of the base 34 attribute points and the way your portrait looks. Also, the race (not the bloodline nowadays, just the race) also affects the starter skillpack. It didn't used to be important in the old days, it's pretty important nowadays (for low-training-needed specialised task alts mainly, but also for genuine new players).
Other than that, no, there's no point in "exploring" any other races/bloodlines, you can do pretty much everything in the long run with any char (and given full learning done and plenty of support skills already trained, it really isn't a good idea to "reroll" even if you screwed up a bit in the starter attributes).
P.S. But since the new bloodlines came in (and because of how "skillpacks" are now distributed), I expect a significant percentage of new chars to just select Achura (mainly Engineer) as starter choice _ MySkills | Module/Rig stacknerfing explained |

While I am not a big WoW fan... you missed the whole point of WoW.

One character training per account, so yes, unless you have 12 accounts you wont be able to 'explore' all the races.
Read the race intros, decide which you want...
My character is Minmatar but I fly Caldari Ships almost exclusivly... your race doesnt matter much.

This is my achura enginer There are many like it But this one is mine
Also, never ever ever roll a male character, they all look silly. The ONE exeption is that minmatar dude with sunglasses, hes awesome.
Female intaki can look very very frightening if done right. Punk is the look for all minmatar and some caldari females Gallente can have a boob, but you need to cut your arm off for it (not recomended)
Personaly i think that useless 8 charisma new minmatar bloodline can look the best, but who would be one of those other than a dedicated trader, or someone who wanted to get a new char into a mining barge in half the time?
Oh well, i used to be amarr, but now im caldari. Everyone should be caldari. We get to be the least-populated race in the game while simultaniously haveing more player-characters than ANYONE! And we can be angry at the french for blowing up our planet with their pastell colored ships and stuff. Its great.

Never played Warcraft, so I'm just going by what I hear. :)
As for the dude with the sunglasses, yes he looks good. But I can't put big mutton chops on him so he's worthless. He was going to be my lemming leap character, Lemming Kilmister. :)
