I know this has been asked, but I can't find a good answer by intelligent people. What are the advantages of a CNR over a Golem? I have max missile and tank skills, so what should I pick? ISK is not an issue |

golem has bastion which gives you bonus to shield booster, target painter, mjd and also ignores ewar (minus neuts)

I'm just now back after about 5 years, and I know of the bastion module but is it worth going for the golem If I want to be a mission blitzer? |

The only advantage a CNR has over the Golem is hull cost.
Neither of them are good choices if you want to blitz missions since they are both to slow. Machariel as mentioned above and perhaps the Vargur would be better options and of the two the Machariel is my choice. |

Golem has the same bonuses that the RNI has plus the marauder and role bonuses. The golem costs a fair bit more but will do more damage and apply it better.
All that aside, people have already covered it that a machariel is still blitz king. |

So, you just rejoined after 5 years. Good for you.
However, you may be jumping the gun a bit for choice of battleships with a new player with 2 days.
It's good to plan for what you want to do, and what ship you'd like to blitz L4s in, but you've got a long way to go. (you know that!)
You may even change your mind and do something else.
I hope you have fun in your second time around.

@ the OP - use the golem, it gets better damage application bonuses for the small rats in missions. |

I was looking for a good answer to maxed skills with a 2 day old character. I guess that's it.

I would say go for CNR if you are set on Caldari course. Mach is excellent in many ways and you can read about that plenty here, but if you are choosing between CNR & Golem I would say CNR.
With max missile/tank skills the tank bonus from Bastion module is not necessary, and also, if you are using cruise missile the range bonus from Bastion is not that helpful either in practice.
Also they are both shield ships, so it's not like a Paladin where using bastion can help you save low slot tank modules to add more DPS.
Personally I used to have a Torpedo Golem and Cruise CNR and alternated between them depending on the mission type. But if you are picking one ship and go for cruise for laziness CNR is just cheaper and does decent enough job.
EDIT: I'm talking about cost effectiveness & bang for buck opinion here. If ISK is no concern & you want the maximum efficiency you'd inject for max skilled Mach and have various other specialised ships fitted for very specific purposes. I'm not advocating that CNR is superior to Golem in pure performance point of view.

Following the same logic the standard Raven is more than capable so the advantages of the CNR are wasted as well.
For most mission runners ship choice is not about "need" it is about what works best and the 100% bonus to shield rep effectiveness granted by the bastion make some crazy fits like a two slot tank possible. |

I admit that's a valid point. :) I just felt CNR is in very nice sweet spot in terms of cost, ease of use and skill requirement while offering immediately better DPS than standard Raven.
Paper DPS for Golem n CNR is same but you are right. Two slot tank on Golem can allow you to fit Missile Guidance System on top of bonused TP, so in reality it can probably out perform CNR even in cruise set up and allow you to use more Fury missiles.

I went with the Golem, and that's what I'd recommend.
I had a CNR and ran it for a very long time. After I got the Golem I sold the CNR because I didn't use it anymore.
To me, the Golem is just so much better, and has been my goto ship for L4's for a very long time.
The Caldari BSs, the Raven, Navy Scorp, Golem, and CNR, if fitted basically the same, have the same DPS. Their volleys are different.
The Golem can apply damage better only because of the TP bonus, and yes, there's room for 2, plus a guidance mod. With Bastion I use a 3 slot tank.
Right now I'm happy with this setup:
Rigs: 2x T2 rigors
High: 4x T2 cruise launchers, Fury missiles. 1005dps, 8128 volley. (I have the launchers split 2 and 2) 2x tractors, 1x salvager (I really don't salvage much anymore.) Bastion
Mid: Pith B XL SB, 2x T2 Invul Flds 2x TPs, MGC II Webber, or AF, or another MGC (varies) (heck sometimes it all varies per the mission.)
Low: 4x Caldari BCUs
I was having trouble fitting the CNR after it got 8 launchers. I just couldn't fit it the way I wanted. (my skills were not the issue)
So, that's my 2 cents.
