Today I quit swtor, as I hadn't bothered to log in apart from the monthly incremental "content" they released which could completed in an hour. This got me wondering how many eve players played other mmo's?
What other games be it mmo's or single player games do fellow capsuleers play...and are they awaiting new releases?
For me it was swtor, elite dangerous and ofc Eve. No mans sky holds a certain interest for me |

I am an MMO addict, played most of them. First was GW1 followed by Eve Online then Runescape on a latop nexrt t my PC to pass away the long waits in Delve while in standing fleets. Followed by a long spat in World of Warcraft then Aion (which i loved but population shortly collapsed so left) also got into FFXIV for a bit but the end game sucked.
Gw2 sucked, ESO sucks only played beta though, wildstar was good but telegraphs and 50% nerf on healing in pvp are annoying so it sucks.
Now back to eve again after not playing any mmos for ages, working and standard mmo's rarely work together. |

I played Everquest back in the day when it had two islands and a boat and even though it was a small world it was fun. Then it expanded and expanded and it lost its personality.
Then I found the exquisite Asheron's Call 2. That was a game that was wonderful to look and fantastic to explore but woe betide running into the same area as any other character as the lag would kick in and make the game unplayable. But for a non-interactive MMO it was great but useless on the 'multi' part.
Then WoW for a while until that got silly. And then, finally, here.

Despite the general jokes eve players make about WoW, I'm not afraid to admit I played WoW hardcore for a few years. Early WoW was fantastic and before everything eventually started to get 'balanced' and more generic, there were real novelty & joy in playing some of the 'odd' classes, and the production quality of the world was so good for its times.
Beside EVE and MMOs like WoW, I actually enjoy immersive single player game experiences. Recently I had awesome fun playing GTA V story mode, and when I look back there were some unforgettable gaming classics such as Baldurs Gate series, which is still amazing to re-play again these days.
Generally I'm looking for 'immersion', where I can get truly lost in the game world/story and forget about everything else RL momentarily.

Just to add a bit more on WoW.... in the early days where everyone was green & plenty of people were new to the game, it was great fun forming random parties together & trying out dungeons and such. Lots of people didn't know how to do some boss fights, and people experimented to figure out how to defeat certain foes or how to do the party quests.
Then through the years, inevitably everything became very elitist. I was guilty of it too as I was loaded in good gears & raided with a good/well established guild. But that freshness and joy of the early exploratory days were over. People looked down on noobs with green gears and would rage over someone doing something stupid, instead of having a lol moment about it. The only freshness I got was when new contents (i.e. new expansion packs with new raid contents and such) came out and we had to challenge to complete/defeat the dungeon for the first time as the guild. That 'figuring out' and 'experimenting' part was always fun, but of course, as these things always turn out to be, after while you'd get guides and walk-throughs all over the internet and soon everyone would be 'farming' for stuff and all the raids become routine again.
To some extent EVE has similar problems, where newly introduced PVE contents such as Incursions become nothing more than generic farming and endless isk faucet, and the hardcore groups will always become elitist and accept nothing but super blings for their fleet.
It is indeed very difficult to keep a game 'fresh' for many years. Where WoW failed but EVE still somewhat gives me that new excitement is the player driven contents & wtf/lol moments that catch you off guard every now and then.

I spent lot of time on national WoW private servers. Played lots of battlegrounds, later led 10 or 15-man battleground raids. Lots of bugs, occasional custom content and mostly everyone was noob. Quit after they started to upgrade beyond the burning crusades. That first week in Eversong Woods has been the best gaming experience I have to date.
Then a few years later my ex introduced me to League of Legends. Went through a lot of ranked matches playing support until I finally realized cooperation doesn't mean jack **** in MOBAs. Got into diamond V with Heimer then just quit. Similar with HoTS.
Now I'm here. Eve is like the endgame MMO. It's probably also the only MMO not made primarily for children. Love the hardcore nature & dreading the day it will inadvertently close. The closest alternative, Star Citizen, is just too damn casual.
In between I enjoyed lots of single player games, mostly indies: 140, This Is the Police, The Banner Saga, and obviously Life Is Strange.
And btw, what does The Burning Crusade mean? Like, it's the name of the expedition against Illidan?

The secret world is a great mmo. It offers more than just the traditional raiding and grinding. Some gameplay is akin to single player games by including investigation and stealth. Really enjoyed it until I hit Tokyo |

People keep saying this, it always is top of the list on mmorpg.com but when I check it out it just feels terrible and crap and doesn't at all entice me to try it. It looks so bland. What am I missing? |

I've barely started with EvE, but I think it'll probably soak up a lot of my gaming time for the next while.
Besides the above, I'm usually more of a shooter junkie, and I've spent many more hours than I probably should on Overwatch (my latest fling), TF2, Battlefield and CoD. |

TSW has a lot going for it. It's free to play after the initial payment for it. Some quests are investigation, meaning you can use the ingame browser to learn about the Templars, Illuminati, etc (unless you head straight to spoilers). It has horror in a modern world setting. It's advertised has having no classes but you still have to grind away points to learn different builds etc (but you can switch between any style anytime). Another cool feature is once you've learnt a new "deck" your granted cosmetic armour, so not too much pressure on you if you like different costumes but you can still buy some cool outfits from the store.
One of the best games I've bought for 10 quid anyway |

The atmosphere, story, attention to detail is why I was hooked on TSW. And the investigation quests were just so unique. But I had it pre-ordered and the expansions were just very slow and I felt I ran out of things to do between waiting so I left for other games. Still thinking about going back though.
Would recommend that you watch this video as well

Just finished Napoleon: Total War, it was pretty good. AI not that good though. If you set up your artillery right, you can wipe out most of the AI infantry as they cross the field to you. AI puts its own cannon in useless places, such as behind hills or woods, and it never moves them to better positions. Also your cannon gunners have x-ray vision. They'll shoot at enemy units that they can't hit because they're behind hills. They'll also shoot right through nearby friendly infantry. But, like all TW games, once in a while you get into a nasty battle that works you over and makes you sweat.
