So, after exactly 5 years of being away, I finally made the inevitable return to EVE. A coworker was asking about it, and I found myself caught up in pontificating at him about all the nullsec wars and politics (how Goons were bankrolled and B-R5 battle). Another coworker overheard, and it turns out he used to play as well. He resubbed, and 3 days later my will cracked.
From what I gather reading the forums, reddit, and checking the sov maps, this game is completely different from I left it in 2011. My favorite ships got the nerf, sov is revamped, and there are lots of new ships. Now I'm trying to figure out what I want to do. I don't think I want to go back to nullsec sov anytime soon. My last alliance was in PB, and its leader drained the fun out of the game for a few of us. Blobs were also not fun given the lag (this was before TiDi). I'd like to do more small/med gang pvp, but I also need to make the iskies. I never tried FW back then, but it seems you can make decent money while at the same time having plenty of reds to shoot.
Any suggestions from you vets? At this point, I'm practically a newbro since I have to relearn just about everything. For the time being, I'm just trying to figure out what all skills i left off with and what all I need next. |

Any experience with FW? I don't want to join a 0.0 corp and then wind up not having as much time to play as I like. I remember CTAs being at very inconvenient hours and it seems like I never had time to rat enough to cover costs or those systems were crowded. All I know is I won't be living in high sec grinding missions. |

I thought about that, too. My only J-space experience was scanning a couple down for practice and peeking inside. Living in one always seemed like it would be a Herculean task, especially being a subcap pilot with no pos management skills. Not having local ruin any surprises seems like it would be a lot of fun, though. |

First of all, welcome back to Eve! To answer your inquiry as best as I can, I would contact Eve University and see if they have something you may be interested in, they have a little bit of everything you can imagine and they are a great source from what I know of them.
The application process isn't all that bad and it is worth your time to even contact them on their public channel, I don't recall what that is at the moment tho....
Again, welcome back! |

Thanks! I'm at 30 mil sp, so E-Uni is probably not gonna be what I'm looking for. It may just come down to me and the one coworker getting ourselves killed in low sec over and over until we get the hang of flying again. Might even make some daytrips into some wormholes. |

Citadels are/will make WH living much easier with much better controls and no longer needing to place 500 fiddly POS components. They currently lack contracts but that is coming soon, and the other structures are still on the way also. But they aren't as fiddly. |

There's about as much lowsec as before; you can probably search for the lowsec alliances. Most of the carebears are still stuck in high-sec, so low is just about as empty as before. FW hasn't really changed a lot, so whatever experiences you had before will probably be the same.
The focus of the recent patches has been revamping the ships, then changing the null sov mechanics, and now more recently citadels and changing the capital ships. So that's kinda where player interest has gone too.
So you'll see people fly a lot of the smaller, more gimmicky ships (battleships are currently in disfavor), and we've had some nullsec wars but also a change in the way alliances are regarded, with pick-up roaming fleets (NPSI) being a thing now, and also most of the major alliances funding and maintaining a newbie-friendly wing, with open recruitment and daily fun ops.
And finally, wormhole space and exploration have taken off, especially with tools like tripwire that allow you to build a map of the wormhole space and find your way to anywhere. And, a lot of corps have installed citadels in their w-space, allowing people to dock and have decent station services.
So if you don't want the null large alliance life, and if FW doesn't pan out for you, I'll echo the sentiment of joining a wormhole corp; it's typically small-gang PVP with nightly fun, as there are plenty of ways to find targets or have roaming PVP gangs find you. Plus the ISK is really good. |

EDIT: I'm declaring tonight "like an ass-hole" night. Cause you know they'll check, to see what's happening. I'm told (by those who claim to know) that's every night for me!

Welcome back to Eve.
You've definitely been gone a long time and as you said, there's been a sh*t ton of changes so you've got a lot of catching up to do.
I hope you have much success with that as well as a long and rewarding career this time around.
