I just hit the milestone in eve of being able to fly a tengu :D. With this I came to the question in my exploration career of should i get tegu for exploration. I currently fly a buzzard for null sec/wh exploration, but it occurred to me is the cost of getting a tengu or a stratios worth it compared to the cost of a 30 mil buzzard or a 90 mil astero. Especially when it comes to getting caught in bubbles and gate camps in those larger ships. Any advice from other explorers on this subject? |

Cost can sometimes be the best reason to do or not do something. That being said, properly fit t3s can be immune to bubbles, and warped cloaked. Still very scary, but theres a good feeling about skating thru a dual-sided gate camp in a ninja fit t3.
As for the benefits, you get more cargo (for loot and extra fitting options), more fitting room, better tank, and actual combat capability. |

tengu can laugh at bubbles, can also do the combat exploration , granted so can the stratios but that will get stuck in bubbles.
both of the cruisers can be legitimately scary in pvp too so yeah, they are worth the cost. the question is would they be worth it to you.
sort answer would be if you know how to keep one alive then yeah, they certainly are, if not ,then no.

What are you "exploring" if you are just running data/relic sites where there are no rats, I'd stay with the covert ops. If you want to do combat sites and add some pew pew to your exploring the Tengu will be what you do.
The scanning and hacking bonus of the covert ops lets you scan fast get in the site then get out. Getting caught in any of the sites, by other players, is likely bad no matter which of those two ships. |

are you able to sit in it or fly it? Meaning, do you have offensive/defensive subsystems to 5 and the rest to 4?
If you're only doing data/relic sites, stick with a buzzard. If you want to try combat sites too, a tengu works well if you have a travel/scanning fit, then use a depot to switch to a combat fit for combat sites.
Also realize a tengu makes you a more attractive target for hunters. Someone could see a buzzard on scan and not think it's worth the effort, but see a tengu and follow you from system to system hunting to get the fight and/or kill. |

I generally stick to data and relic sites, so for now i should stick with the buzzard then. I have another question while i'm here on the topic of ghost sites how do you guys run them i generally avoid them due to the cans exploding, do you come back with a more disposable ship? Also how much isk per hr do combat sites run? |

combat sites vary wildly, might be a pocket full of shrapnel for a days work, might a couple of hundred million.

Also how much isk per hr do combat sites run? Tengu is viable for null sec exploration because it's unstoppable when configured for bubble immunity and quick align. It's also strong enough to fight back against solo gankers. But the main reason to use one is because it's also useful for combat signatures and cache sites.Tengu can run ghost sites because it can tank the damage from exploding cans and the rats that show up. Combat signatures is good isk, but hard to make a per hour estimate because much of the time is in finding them.
Stratios can also do all of the above except for bubble immunity.
I prefer an Astero to a Buzzard, but that's open to personal preference. I use a buzzard when I might want to combat scan.

Given that exploration can be hacking or combat and depends on which faction's space you're in, "a fit" is meaningless. You're going to have to narrow it down. |
