let me paint you a picture... 20 hulks out in a belt.. with 3 haulers the haulers are having trouble keeping the belt clear of cans as they have to bounce around to collect from different sections of the belt... one of them thinks... this could be made easier! lets use an MTU to drag all the cans to one spot! goes to launch MTU finds he can only launch for self... and to top it off it begins tractoring everything by range meaning only the close cans or wrecks get drawn to the MTU and the more distant cans sit there and expire causing already lacking mineral contents to disappear into the void...
after painting said carebear picture i propose CCP allow MTU's to be launched for fleet, or for corp allowing multiple haulers to access it. or if not maybe have the looting feature toggle able? and having the ability to set the MTU to focus on specific things eg the name of an object for instance you set it to look for "F" and have the miners lable their cargo container F when its full and the MTU will drag any can within its range with the name F first.. and then go on to anything else it can reach once it cant find any more "F" objects like a priority system or if you want it to pull wrecks before cargo cans you type in "wreck" and away it goes or your killing NPC's (be it missions or ratting) and find a particular rat you want to make sure you loot, you put in the name of that target and when the wreck is made it will prioritize that wreck
im not sure how much effort these ideas would take to enact but i think they would be usefull features that would improve peoples experience a little |

how very helpfull.... i understand placement could bandaid some of the issues mentioned but how does placement effect the fact that only the character who launches the mtu is able to access it? |

MTU fills up, but doesn't stop tractoring. The rest of the cans can be scooped from space.

True , however when you scoop it the contents are left in a jet can, which can be acessd by anyone.

True , however when you scoop it the contents are left in a jet can, which can be accessed by anyone(Emphasis added). Which is an important factor from which certain, now endangered, alternative playstyles derive their sustenance. While it would certainly benefit the more common mining playstyle to allow mtu's to be "deploy for corp," it would negatively affect these alternative playstyles by artificially encroaching on an important factor of their habitat.
Such a sweeping change by CCP would surely negatively impact the playstyle diversity that has contributed to making EvE the vibrant interconnected ecosystem it is today.
For the sake of promoting playstyle diversity, I cannot endorse LETUSDIG's proposal. |

the thing there is that the MTU's can only store less than 1 full can anyway... meaning that the cans would still be left about nearby the MTU and in one place for someone to steal from all of them/ attack people away from them.. not quite sure what content it would really remove... would just remove some of the bouncing off celestials to get around the belt... |

It sounds like the OP needs to invest in an Orca.
Not only can it haul more, but it can tractor stuff, move things to the fleet bay so other haulers can ferry it back to station, have a compliment of salvage drones, and can utilize mining links to further enhance mining efficiency.

orca actually hauls slower than a nano'd miasmos....
i honestly think making MTU's launch able for fleet or corp would not be a big change and would things easier for the miners... |

If you strictly want a hauler... invest in a Freighter.

So you want to replace a player function with an automated function that provides less functionality?
And, I have to say it, how much easier do we need to make mining? Is it hard now?
Edit: Before you ask, yes I have mined. I have mined in fleets and been miner, hauler (before Orca using T1 haulers with multiple GSC's in cargo hold) and even CAP. |

So much this!
CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

I sort of agree with the OP that it would be handy to have something like this, if only because a boosting orca doesn't have room for a tractor. An MTU solves a lot of the problems involved with haulers warping to a belt to pick up cans but AFAIK is too indiscriminate in what it tractors in and is owned by one person..
One possible solution is a group tractor setting, in which it only tractors things but does not loot. Another is a setting where the MTU tractors, but does not loot, only abandoned items. This would attempt to sidestep the problem of an MTU tractoring partially full cans.

Things don't need to be easier for a playstyle that already caters to the AFK netflix watching crowd |

Honestly, in my opinion everything deployable should be switched over immediately to the new access list system. All the structures that are meant to be personal structures can be set to Personal Only by default, but everything should have an option to allow others to access it as well.
