I am working on raising my probing skills as we speak but is there a way to track MTUs' down with just uisng the D-Scan?
I have been trying and I locate one get the scan down to 60 degreed 5 au's and he is still there, then I get it down to 30 Degrees and the MTU goes missing I look at there are nothing on my hud no asteroids no moons etc which leads me to believe maybe it is in dead space? Can anyone tell me how to track it down with d-scan if it is even possible. Thank you... |

You can get a general idea of range and direction (use scan angle and aim your camera), but you will need combat scan to make a proper lock.

They're trivially easy to probe down, go nuts (and watch local go nuts - sometimes, usually in Russian - when you pop it!)

It is possible to use d-scan ... but it takes a lot of warping (time). Combat probes are a lot easier.
Back in the day, mobile warp disruptor bubbles had 0 sensor strength = infinitely small sensor signature, so they could not be probed. My corp spent months tracking-down two of them via d-scan.
I found one and destroyed it.
We never found the second. It was not between any celestials, so you had to log-off, log-in and make a bookmark during the auto-warp, and hope you were randomly 1 million km closer. When CCP changed the sensor strength to 1 = extremely easy to be probed, we then found it and destroyed it. |

The above method mentioned for combining D scan with combat probing can be used to scan down targets with your probes out in space within 14.3 AUs of the target for barely longer than the 5 second minimum D scan re-calibrate time. This can be used to great effect in wormholes where you can probe down targets in such a short amount of time that it is unlikely that they will catch your probes on D scan. |
