Hello! This is an idea IGÇÖve been kicking around a while to improve interactivity in mining, without making it more tedious. In fact I want it to be less number crunching, and more hands-on flying. In the age where any dolt with a CC can plex a few billion, and buy sps injectors to get the character they wantGǪ ItGÇÖs not about isk. The problem is the play of the game.
Take mining for example. Once youGÇÖve skilled up for it and fit the Hulk, whatGÇÖs left? Orbit an Orca and drag ore from your cargo hold to the ore hold every 5-6 minutes? This is fun game play? No, OMG BORING! And i know boredom, because I'm in Boredom Inc! No wonder CODE ganks so many miners. TheyGÇÖre AFK, or watching Hulu/Netflix/muskrat porn on the other monitor. Mining is the basis of most industry in Eve, and pretty much HAS TO BE done. Simply adjusting the payout for it does nothing to fix the basic problem. ItGÇÖs just not especially rewarding to be attentive while doing it, except to avoid ganking. And itGÇÖs just not fun. Mining needs to be changed to something that rewards players for paying attention (alertness), promotes team play (fun), and gives players ways to interact with the environment (sandbox).
GÇÿROID RUGBY
1. Collison spheres, speed, mass, and bumping are understood game mechanics, so letGÇÖs start by making asteroids and ice bump-able, but respawn at their starting location after every DT. 2. Add GÇ£pusher platesGÇ¥ in T1 and T2 varieties that can fit to Hulk hulls that vary by size, thrust (pushing ability of mass), and speed while pushing. Target a GÇÿroid/ice to activate the plate and bump away. 3. Add a GÇ£chompGÇ¥ module to fit whale class ships, Orca in high sec, Rorq in low/null, that act as a siege module that immobilizes the ship and gives a cool down timer. Activating the chomp creates an area in front of the ship wherein if a GÇÿroid/ice is located it gets nibbled at so many M3/sec directly to the shipsGÇÖ ore hold. The whale is immobilized by the chomp to force good location choices, and has the timer to keep any 1 player from quickly hitting every belt in the system. Wow, we may actually see a miner fleet with more than 1 Orca pilot.
The speed of which ore/ice is mined can be throttled game wise by adjusting the speed of the pusher plate in meters/sec, since the GÇÿroids spawn in fixed locations. A more highly skilled whale pilot can GÇ£chompGÇ¥ more M3/sec of ore/ice.
This benefits Eve by:
A.It promotes team play in several ways. Get a team together and empty a belt by coordinating ship maneuvers. Not sitting there half conscious. Another corp getting your rocks? Bump the rocks to YOUR friendly whale, away from them. This creates a competitive sports environment that makes possible GÇÿroid rugby, soccer, etc, etcGǪ Now even the most loss averse player can participate competitively in a non-war dec environment. Get people involved! B.It gives players a way to punish otherwise largely untouchable NPC corp miners, by simply pushing stuff out of their reach to a waiting whale that eats faster than they can mine. C.It should pay better than laser mining. Simply for requiring attentive play. D.More opportunities for interaction, Environmental sculpture, building walls and words of GÇÿroidGǪ E.Yay, Griefers! Have fun pushing all the good rocks 100 km in random directions from the belt and seeing the FUUUuuuuu in local. See someone at a belt AFK? Push GÇÿroids around him so that he canGÇÖt move and has to log out for the e-warpGǪ. Because screw that guy. Remember, if youGÇÖre not inconveniencing someone in Eve, youGÇÖre playing it wrong. F.Botting just got servedGǪ. I imaging itGÇÖs pretty hard to create a GÇÿbot with 3d special perception. Leave beam mining in for noobs and GÇÿbots, because: #1 Ya gotta start somewhere, and #2, nobody wants to have to take up the slack for 300 gazillion insta-blapped GÇÿbots. It just puts local-aware, coordinated miner crews at the top of the mining food chain.
Everyone can think of 99 problems this may create (will! Lol!) But Eve has a lot of smart people involved. LetGÇÖs figure out how to turn GÇÿbot bait into fun. Thanks for reading!
