Edited by: Aodha Khan on 14/03/2007 10:02:59 Originally by: Releng The thing is im not having fun.... Mining, going back to station, mining. doing missions going back to station, doing more. Killing npc pirates. Traveling from one point to another which is freaken annoying if you have to travel 50jumps Why are you travelling 50 jumps?! If you want to have fun, join a corp and become involved in it's goals and politics. What your doing now is playing Eve likes it's WoW or some other multiplayer online game. Think of Eve as a virtual world in which anything is possible. So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong and to strike at what is weak.

This is weird. I've never done this myself. I try out a hell of a lot of games (I've tried almost every MMO on the market, and a lot of singleplayer/MP stuff) and if I don't like a game or it just doesn't really grab me, I just uninstall it, close the accounts and move on. Not once, never, have I felt the urge to go on the forums for that game, asking why *I* dont like it, or what is the point of it, or any other utterly inane questions like the OP. I'm almost tempted to say 'troll thread' but I'll be nice and just say 'Each to their own'. Weird

to me the entire point of this game is pvp. i like how the pvp mechanics of this game make you think analytically. the best pvpers are those who know what their opponent is going to try and do at all times. my favorite is small gang warfare, when you have like 10-20 people in a fight. even POS warfare is based on mechanics that make it pretty fun and interesting, or at least it would be fun if not for the lag/crashes. all the money making activities like missions and mining are just there to enable me to pvp with nice shiney gear, and replace it with more nice shiney gear when i die. sigs are for the weak

lol, already love this thread so much so i think im gonna have to steal some quotes for my bio from it Calebes' description of newb miners joining corps and Frug's insight into the female mind have tickled me most i think anyway, yeah, this game is pointless! but that doesnt stop me from having fun, scheming and planning, and generally causing a little mischief. my advice would be to get the skills to create your own corp, go to a newb system and recruit as many other new players as you can. these days with a little help you can be in a BC in under a month, be flying lvl 3 missions, and acquiring a cool setup for your new shiney ships of choice. from then the world of Eve is your very own giant speckly oyster ripe for the eating! even if you bum around doing nothing much for a while, making friends and enemies is more than enough fun to keep me content at least.

Weird Ive been thinking the exact same thing - I tried RF Online, laughed my arse of at it and closed the account. I coldnt imagine who or their reasoning why someone would go on the forums to ask why they think a game is no good. To the OP - as has been said before, this game is a sandbox. If you are incapable of forging your own path in this game I dread to think how you make your way in real life, unless you are one of those sheep who is unable to think beyond the blinkered path. I for one have brought a lot to this game and also taken a lot away from it. My character has pursued a multitude of career paths and is a very good all rounder, and whilst in the throws of learning the trade game I began to realise something. Buy something cheap in one place and sell higher in another where there is more demand...lets try this out in real life. Go to my local outdoor market and buy all sorts at very cheap prcies, go on eBay and sell at 35% markup and lo and behold, I am still doing it 18 months later. Apply youirself, both in game and out - makes life much more interesting. Lucius

To the OP: Your basic problem is that you're asking what you are supposed to do. There is nothing you're supposed to do. The question you need to ask is "what do I want to do?".

Originally by: Releng Is there more to this game then, blow up stuff and collect their crap? I play to accumulate ISK, so I can spend it on things to make people lose the things they bought with their accumulated ISK. To watch your wallet grow is fun, to watch other peoples die is also fun. I play like this because I am genuinely a very lazy person, who prefers instant gratification rather than enduring some sort of drawn out grind. I've also got a very short attention span, but the game still sustains my need for destruction._________ Don't use the word "toon" to refer to your character, people find this irritating and it may label you a retard.

so you haven't tried pvp yet? no offence to any bears out there but imo anyone who can play this game for more than a couple of months without some kind of pvp is a very boring person indeed. the great thing about eve is that there is something in it for everyone. i personally enjoy making lots of isk, spending it on pimped out ships and going on killing sprees with a wingman or 2 and wasting everything i come across and getting mails calling me every insult under the sun and some that aren't. for some ppl it is in accumilating huge wealth through production and fighting on the market to compete with other produces with fine profit margins. boring to me, great fun to some. there are loads of cool things to do but mostly it is fun when u find a group of like minded ppl who u can really get to rely on and have some awesome laughs with over whatever voice comms u want. Eve is a very varied and socialable game that maybe doesn't appeal to everyone but i wouldn't rule it out before u've at least tried all it has to offer DE

Points? We don't need no stinking points! EVE is a chat room with stuff slapped on to keep your hands busy. Actully if you read the Dev Blogs and Interviews the Point of EVE is to funnel people down to the DEVs running the 0.0 corps so that they can do painfull and some times un-natural thing's to them LOL, JK.. really thats like asking whats the point of taking a walk in a park or candy... Candy and some other some things dont have to have a point, thats what makes them candy etc...

i got into it cause i like sci-fi games and wanted to try something different. i would suggest going out and meeting your neighbors. I have meet some good guys and galls and now I play to hang with them. We're all from different areas of the world. We all see things in different ways and corp mining ops on ventrillo is just a blast. i have the urge now to tickle someones prostate so meet some peeps bud and explore the different areas in eve.

Well when i started playing i gave myself small goals to achieve. Like train for a Cruiser, then battlecruiser. Then i went T2 cause it looked cool. After i reached HAC skills i went for battleship after that I went for a dread. Now i can fly a dread but can't use it yet. Training for a siege module as we speak. Another thing that kept me going after some huge losses is my corp mates and because it's a freaking space game for gods sake

The OP has a valid point. Eve is unusual in not having any specific goals to achieve and at first that can seem odd. The solution is to join an active, ambitious corporation and work on the social aspect of the game. If you really want to get involved find a 0.0 corporation and lose yourself out there in the wasteland. -- (Battle hardened industrialist) [Brackley, UK]Please don't read this signature.

Eve is a sandbox game. You can do anything you like with the tools in the sandbox. Build a sandcastle, kick over other peoples sandcastles, travel around the sandbox to inspect every single grain, kill other people in the sandbox, what ever you want. It's all up to you. Set a goal and try to reach it. If you don't like to be creative like this then EVE is not the game for you. _________________________________________________________

if you are looking for an NPC to tell you what to do then eve is really not the best game choice for you point of eve is that you can do whatever you want become a pirate become anti pirate run waste depository control half the space through alliance build monetary empire become a spy Pretty much like life, isnt it.. no NPC guy to tell you to go bring him 20 gazelle hooves(SP?) and then you go out for 20 hours farming gazelles because apparently only every 10th has frickin feet at all.. - "I'm scissors. Edited by: Plutoinum on 14/03/2007 15:47:30 If you don't get immersed and don't have some visions, what you want to do, try out, become later, you are lost in EVE. Creativity like someone else said. You can do and become almost whatever you like, but if you have no interest to do and become anything, you can quit right away. CPP doesn't hold your hand and lead the way. They give you a short introduction to what you can start with in the tutorial and that's it. I or better my now-alt wanted to join the Republic Fleet in 2004 or become a pirate and live with Sanshas raiding the universe. Well, joining the Republic Fleet didn't work and I still have not become a pirate after 3 years. Anyway, I've found a lot of other stuff that interests me. ___________ Muuuhhh !!!
