Background: Since the new scanner was released, it has gotten progressively better. This seems like an ideal time to propose scanning changes, since the new probe and d-scanners are soon probably going to replace the old ones completely (there are some minor issues left, but they are much better than release).
One this that would be nice to see would be if the system retained your scanning info until the site de-spawned. E.g. You scan down a site to 100% and leave local, you no longer need to scan it down again if you come back into local. This would eliminate the need for constantly consuming bookmarks in w-space, running sites if you leave local, etc. - reducing clutter and increasing usability to make scanning (an already tedious task) more fun and less annoying.
Proposal (also TL;DR): After you have scanned something down 100%, allow it to remain scanned down until that site despawns so you only need to scan things once (and don't need to bookmark everything all the time).

I suppose I wouldn't be opposed to this.
Right now the system as-is does reward people who put in more actual work tracking things, but... meh. It's mostly just an annoyance. I'd be ok losing that. |

While I agree with the proposed idea, nothing has improved with the general interface.
The buttons are still at the top of the window so that you have to cross over the long list of probes every time you want to analyze things (or have to click somewhere in the probe window and press enter), which is inferior to the old probe window where the scanner buttons are between probes and scan results so that you can keep selecting your desired scan target and can just hop your mouse up to the scan button, which is a lot less mouse travel. CCP's idea of UI unification is going beyond reasonable here and in the completely wrong direction. The scan bubbles are still hideously gimmicky. Great, they now look like hazy balls, but they are too bright and obstructive so that you cannot see the faint scan results anymore. The clear and concise sphere of the old scanner is by far superior to that cinematic crap. Again, CCP's ideas of making EVE more cinematicy clash with actually keeping its UI usable. As said above, the scan results are too faint. Nothing has changed on that part since they introduced the feature. Another annoyance with the UI is the change to this narrow progress bar below the signature text. In a system with only a few signatures, this does not really pose a problem; however, in a system with dozens of signatures, it is harder to see which bar belongs to which signature. The old row filling bar was better again in that regard. Another useless feature is this ridiculously thick planetary orbit line, which obstructs information display in planet-moon systems when you zoom in very close. This thick line serves no purpose whatsoever except for making the scanning harder. Another useless thing is this constant swapping between grouped and ungrouped items in the UI. If I zoom in just a bit too far out, planets, moons, gates, belts in very close proximity group into this arcy little group UI thing and if I zoom in just the little bit further they pop out into the individual view. That serves no purpose at all except for clutter and jumpy, inconsistent UI.
So, yeah, that's that. Luckily for us, CCP finally saw reason months ago and stopped working on that hideous thing and instead used the man power to improve things that actually need improvement and to develop things that actually need development work, like Citadels. While this suggestion would indeed make the new scanning system a bit more usable and actually introduce a new and useful functionality over the old system, the UI would still remain unusable.
UI Improvement Collective
My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

Yeah the scanning UI needs work. It has improved a lot but you are right that there are still a LOT of changes it needs if it's to be a suitable replacement. For me the most annoying is how faint the icons are (which seems like it should be a 5 minute fix.....).
However with either the old or new scanning UI's, this would be a nice change I think. |

The new scanning interface is far from finished. CCP hasnt worked on it in a long time. Needs alot of work. Yeah the fading off the red dots is really bad. Makes my eyes ache.
I like the idea of letting signatures stay at 100%, even if you leave local (or even logging off?). I also would like that signatures automatically get to 100% if you get to it through (fleet) warps.

I agreed with you at first about the buttons - I thought the old one was far superior in terms of ease-of-use - however, I then discovered there are now key binds available for both d-scan and probe scan, meaning I don't need to use UI buttons at all anymore, so I couldn't give a rat's ass where they are on the UI! (Maybe the key binds are an old feature, but I only discovered them after using the new scanner).
As for the faint scan results point - I couldn't have articulated it better - CCP please listen to that one!

The first and only good thing about the new scanning interface is the off button.
Eve Minions is recruiting. Learn from about pvp, learn about ships and how to fly them correctly. Small gang and solo action in high, low and nullsec and w-space alike.
We will teach you everything you need and want to know.

Pretty much this...
CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.
