I'm new to this game, and not for want of things to do, I think that trying to raise a family in space would be deeply hilarious and fun.
trying to please little Johnny with a regular supply of quafe and quality TV subscription rather than just leaving him to play with metal scraps. I wouldn't want anything too complicated, not sims in space. Coming back to my astrahus to discover my family as nothing but frozen meat would motivate me to see my next space family meet a less vacuum themed fate.
I'd suggest something alone the lines of...
- WiS type interaction to demonstrate the life I can provide for my family - Perhaps a bonus gained from a happy family (mission rewards/sp speed) - Family housed in player owned citadels so they're never truly safe - When kids reach maturity you might receive a reward for their recruitment into the factions from which we all chose as new players. I.e. A reward for keeping them alive long enough (make it tough) - kids of a certain ages require different services from citadels, so may need to be rehoused.
I know ccp have pretty much left the WiS element untouched but I think this could be a great way to bring back the sense that your space exploits have a relationship with your sense of home and family.
I'm only half joking here, maybe it does have some promise. But I do think it would be funny.

Alright, lets have fun with this.
I will first point out to you that space is full of lone wolf sociopaths because according to lore they're the only ones willing to take the step of death to become capsuleers.
Next I will direct you over towards this gem: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=119995&find=unread
And then I ask you, is this what you want to raise a family with? Sure not all people are as depraved, but I'd probably keep my kids in the cargohold, it would make for a great crib. Theres lots of things i could put in there to occupy it and help raise it, like engineers and revolutionaries and tourists and dolls, and then when its noisy i can jettison it, and come back later. As long as i name the can. Or i could shoot the can and go pick it up at my home station after im done work.
Get some Eve. Make it yours.

Little johnny better get his ass back to cleaning out the reactor coolant lines or he's gonna find himself playing who can hold their breath longest in the airlock.
Eve is like an addiction; you can't quit it until it quits you.

That's so cute, Sims for space sim! sure why not... also they could go to work and earn ISK at station duties, and also die horribly like in the Upwell trailer.

What would they play with? Or what commodities could be used to develop the 'home'? I imagine it would need some specialised assets for that purpose. I don't much fancy just letting them play with a bastion module. But for security that could be interesting. Perhaps they could be kidnapped and so you may choose to develop more expensive security for protection. Perhaps they could ransom the kid, but the kids locator tag will tell you where to go to forcefully retrieve them.
Yes I can imagine it getting a bit psychopathic but I'm sure there could be some protections against that. Say, you can't just outright murder a child, if you jettisoned a kidnapped kid it would just be in a kiddy -capsule that can't be locked on to and warps back home.
What I think would be a good play feature would be if it functions like a dog tag that renews every few months. Having possession of it gives you benefits, and if stolen from a less secure dwelling or post explosion taken (perhaps left in an invulnerable container after a citadel explosion) allows the stealer to ransom back the kid to retrieve the benefits of having a family (I think a sp multiplier would be sufficient incentive). If nothing is done you must wait till the kid reaches maturity, leaves for initiation, and are allowed to get a new one. |

No thanks, my real life family is enough of a headache and EvE is one of the places I can use to escape from it.
On a more note more relevant to the game NO because CCP has there hands full with an ongoing project of ship balancing that they periodically screw up because new ships modules etc. |

Haha, yeah just a silly thought to kick around. CCP has more than enough to deal with. |
