The fun/value of mining varies depending on time of day. At some times of day there's not many asteroids left, so it's a real pain to mine. At other times there are plenty of asteroids, so mining works fine.
I see this as time-zone discriminatory - if you're in some countries you'll almost always have a good mining experience, and in other countries you'll almost always have a bad mining experience.
I think that could be done better. Over to you. |

The only way that would happen that people would always have rocks would be to stop a big money maker for CCP. That being the guy out running 3 accounts and stripping belts all day. We all know that won't happen. |

The solution would be moving around. To other systems. Where belts aren't farmed as heavily.

This. You might even consider leaving highsec. |

CCP could change the belts so they work like ice belts - re-spawning 4 hours after they are depleted as well as a downtime but I doubt they will do this - a stated goal of the last industry revamp was to distribute industrial activity more evenly throughout New Eden. The system cost index does this for production/research. For mining, depleted belts should encourage you to move and yes, there are places in highsec you can find belts that haven't been touched for days. The population is concentrated within a few jumps of the major trade hubs - move to a backwater location and you'll have a lot less competition. |

Get away from the trade hubs, I know of hisec systems with <5 people in local and where the belts will be practically untouched, no matter the time of day.

Oh my!
What you call "discrimination" is more commonly known as pvp or player versus player. Mining pvpers are the worst and they are hiding their evil intend by always saying "they just mine rocks".
Look at it this way, they are mining your stuff because you didn't mine it first.
Make them pay.
Eve Minions is recruiting. Learn from about pvp, learn about ships and how to fly them correctly. Small gang and solo action in high, low and nullsec and w-space alike.

This x2. Get away from the major trade hubs into backwoods systems. Even in highsec there are plenty of rocks to be had, if you look for them.

Before some responses to a specific post let me state this. If the ore belts are empty when you log on OP, then move to another system. I see untouched ore belts all over the EvE universe as I travel about so find one to call your own.

Make them pay. If the ore belts were designed to respawn at random intervals I would agree with you however the ore belts only respawn at downtime. Although I would never call it discrimination, the OP is essentially correct the ore belts spawning at the same time everyday is indeed a form of discrimination because it favors those in some time zones while punishing others that live elsewhere.
Glad to see that you did not miss the chance tor the obligatory "make them pay" line of crap. I find myself wondering if you even engaged you brain before posting this, or was it a simple instinctive reaction. Common sense and the application of just a little logic and deductive reasoning tells us that since he is not online at the same time to compete for the ore, then he would not be online at the time needed to make them pay. Yes, I know the whole hire mercs line of crap will likely come out here and that is certainly one possible option. However players should not have to hire mercs simply to overcome a poorly designed and implemented game feature that punishes some players simply because of the time zone they live in. |

However players should not have to hire mercs simply to overcome a poorly designed and implemented game feature that punishes some players simply because of the time zone they live in. It's not discrimination though, there are more than enough rocks readily available to satisfy demand, they're just not available in the popular areas.
Mining off the beaten track has its advantages and disadvantages, advantages include little competition and well populated belts, security is easier because a lot of systems have very few people in them and you get to know the regulars, gankers don't come avisiting, many of the systems are .7 and below so halfway decent ores etc.
Downside is mostly logistics, you have to allow for transport costs in both time and isk; personally I RF my minerals to a hub, because I can mine more than the cost of doing so in the time it would take me to haul it myself.
Civilised behaviour is knowing that violence is barbaric, but paying other people to do it is business.

I will give you a super secret hint now ... ... which is actually not a secret at all ... ... but more like the egg of columbus.
Go ...
... where the highest buyorders are ...
... and mine there.
It'll afford intellect to figure out how to figure out what you want to know ... ... and even more so to consider doing it instead of demanding that the world changes around ones self ... ... but i promise you, you'll feel like you actually achieved something.
Hey, i'm trying to teach you how to succeed ... ... and Timothy Leary would smile brightly about this brilliant pun... :) ... just like he always did. ^_^

Thanks for that insult. And yes I do have more brains than you pathetic lowlife can possibly comprehend.
Make them pay can mean a lot of things. doesn't have to involve shooting stuff.

Moving around would help, but so would making the main mining belts anoms and having belts as we know them now as just veld.
That way they respawn randomly and cannot be easily bookmarked.

except that would take a lot away from HS currently wars are fought over high belt systems. while mostly proxy wars using mercs it is still a conflict driver
