The Society has long had a pronounced presence on the Galnet channel "The Good Word" operated by Directrix Emerita of the Society Nicoletta Mithra. This channel has been a consistent nexus of good natured exchanges between the Faithful and a brilliant beacon of knowledge for educating those curious about and interested in the Faith. To say that it has been invaluable in these regards would be a tremendous understatement.
It is because of this that our decision to significantly reduce our participation in this channel is made all the more regrettable. It has become clear that the manner of our respective forms of outreach has made continued SFRIM interaction in the Good Word deleterious to the exact environment Directrix Emerita Nicoletta Mithra wishes to cultivate in the channel. This interference is something which could not be further from our wishes.
We wish the Directrix Emerita all the best and thank her for all she has done for us and her continued work as a proselytizer and scholar of our great Faith. |

What does that mean for those of us who, while not members of SFRIM, used it to open discussion on various facets of the Faith or the Empire? Should we move to an alternative or can we continue to use The Good Word?

Either you've learned the art of trolling from Sion, or you really haven't been around here long enough.
Anyways, I believe from the wording used here, it is more SFRIM will be hands off from administrating the channel and using it directly for its public business, but I don't think that will mean its members will cease frequenting it as such. The channel is not theirs to own, but as far as I can tell they still have the priviledge to use it for discussions on the Empire and Faith. Fear not Mr Danneskjold, you should still find conversation aplenty.

Last I checked in it was still very much a welcome place for SFRIM members, so long as the original purpose of the channel was respected. But, of course, my opinion was based on my own, personal, interpretation of the wording so if there will be an official policy of SFRIM leaving the channel wholesale, rather then simply curbing those activities contrary to the channel owner's wishes, then that would be a net loss for everyone (and I really don't assume that to be the case).

You should really stop using this as a means to wave aside the criticizm towards you or your organizations. If people do or say something that means that something'd happened to provoke them. At this point you could simply say "I don't care about your opinion", but then, who'd care about yours?

Mr. Victorian;
You clearly have no idea what the joke there was, man. So, lemme break it down for you:
1)I was blaming me. For something I had nothing to do with. That happened in a channel where, so far as I know, I've behaved myself adequately. In other words, it couldn't possibly have been me. So I blamed me.
2)I used the general hatred toward my alliance as the justification for blaming myself for something I clearly didn't do, because it doesn't matter whether or not we do a thing, we're gonna get accused of it.
3)According to a recent straw poll, we're the most hated alliance in New Eden. Those results, however, include the fact that roughly 40-60% of the votes for 'I hate Goons' were Goons. Because we hate Goons. We hate Goons more than anyone else does. You know why? We have to deal with Goons pretty much constantly, and Goons are jerks. One of the most annoying things we do is pontificate at length, just to hear ourselves talk. But you know what's even worse than that?
4)I think we've pretty well established over the last decade that we generally don't care what people think about us. That hasn't stopped us from being intelligent and able to articulate accurate predictions about the way people behave, and how changes in CONCORD systems and ship performance specs will impact New Eden. So why should anyone listen to us?
Generally, because we're right. Consistently. Annoyingly. And then we get smug about having been right again. It makes us insufferable, and contributes to the degree of hatred out there - especially from Goons, who really despise insufferably smug know-it-alls, especially when they're right - but it also means that ignoring our analysis is never a good idea. We might be lying. We might be spinning a whole chain of misinformation. But then again..
Have I mentioned we're insufferably smug and annoying about how often we're right? And that we really, really like to just drone on at length about this sort of thing because we like to hear the sounds of our own voice? And that we know how insufferably smug and annoying that is, and do it anyway, in part just to be smug and annoying? Because, you know, we do. We like it so much, we're even willing to get repetitive about it just because you never know what little nugget might be in the later paragraphs that spurs on just that little bit more bile and hate from folks who never seem to get the freaking joke. So we keep at it. We keep at it because we're basically being childish and poking at you. And poking. And poking. And poking. And you know it. I mean, none of this is anything new. But it won't stop. It won't ever stop. It's like we can just keep rambling on about this nonsense forever. Because, well, we can.
Normally, this is the point in the discussion where I'd start pointing out your obvious character flaws, and opine on precisely which ones on the list prompted you to take what was obviously a joke at my own expense, and use it as an excuse to lecture me on dealing with people. I'm really not feeling it, though, because you did what amounts to a really lackluster effort there. I mean, you don't provide a single bit of supporting evidence, or even an example of how everyone who dogpiles on Goons all the time has clearly suffered some horrible experience at our hand, and aren't just unquestioning sheeple, lazily chewing the cud of nonsense they've been told by people who are no better than we are, but just happen to have lost war after war, and have gotten bitter and spiteful.
Sure, some of us have done some terrible things over the years - assemble any large enough group of people, though, and you're going to get some real monsters in there. I could go into individual examples, single out individual people who deserve it, but really, I'm trying to be nice. It's a thing I do from time to time. Because, you know, I'm a wonderful person and an overall joy to be around. And completely and totally humble and modest, too. Humility's important, you know? You should never get too full of yourself.
But note that that's humility, not modesty, because really, modesty's kind of over-rated among the cluster's capsuleers. I'd ask if you agree with that assessment, given the obvious physical fitness of eggers, but like I said, we've already established I don't care. But think about it: when's the last time you saw a fat egger? Maybe it's because we die too often to really get out of shape. Maybe it's because we clone back to being fit again. Maybe it's just because we're all workout junkies... but I kinda doubt that one.
You should, too, because let's face it, that's just a ridiculous proposition on the face of it. I'm not a workout junkie. I'm a lot more of a comfort junkie. And I don't think you're one, either - but you know, don't really care anyway. So let's just toss that one out. No, it's got to be one of the first two. Unless they clone us in a way that burns off excess weight while in the pod. It's theoretically possible, after all. The life support systems in the pod might prevent excess absorption of nutrients while simultaneously supplanting the normal filtration systems in the kidneys. You'd need that, otherwise you'd wind up with diabetes, and nobody wants that. Not ever eggers with an average lifespan of two or three weeks.
So, you know, the larger point there is that eggers are generally some pretty smokin' folks. So modesty? Modesty's not necessarily necessary. In fact, some folks might say it's downright counterproductive to the purposes of fomenting positive relations and general good spirits. Because let's face it, a lot of the fashions people go running around in are fugly and uncomfortable, and little casual nudity and maybe even some equally casual gropery and partying? That can only help most peoples' moods. I mean, unless you're some kind of hypersensitive repressed prude with all m |
