In my life I've written several poems. Many in school, learning how to write them, but several very significant ones at critical fulcrum points in my life. I've found that the act of sitting to write a poem, to contemplate events that have occurred and then putting them to a meter can help focus my thoughts immensely.
One such poem was the day I performed the Tea Maker Ceremony. It was a death poem. I keep this with me, at all times in a prayer that I won't make the same mistakes. It is also one that I will not share.
However, as I come up on almost a year since departing Goonswarm for the Amarr Empire, I sat down to write another poem, to task stock of where I was and just why I was here. I am happy to share this with you.
I will also ask that others post their efforts of poetry here, not just rhyming words, but insights into their lives, however much you wish to share. Poems don't have to be long. They don't have to be short. However, they must be written with the soul.
The best poem, as judged by my arbitrary and capricious standards, will net the writer a PLEX.
I look forward to reading your efforts. I will wait a week before judging.
((Note for CCP/ISD, this is an in character thread meant for roleplayers to write poems as their characters would write them.))

Tears in the ash of Caldari Prime Brave Marines dead before their time A victory, sure, but count the cost Our home regained, but so much lost
I went back home to parades and song But the music was dull with what was gone My sister and I, now alone Our mother lost at Ishukone
Battered and broken, given a place Trained for the pod and sent to space My life and loyalty tested by Heth Something snapped and all is Death
A monster now with a pretty face A soul as dark as the black of space Bound now only by my will Innocent and guilty both I kill
Drowning then in a crimson flood Turning to the faith of blood I find no peace or solace there And the monster consumes me in despair
My deeds have brought only infamy To the honored name of the Family Vea Only one way out, I drink the tea And pray my ancestors forgive me
A new clone then, my memory cleared But the monster still inside, always feared From civilized space do I flee Out to nullsec to become a Bee
Down to Fountain to the war The killing starts, like before Drugs and sex and even more Until the day I hit the floor
A goddess in the realm of space But here on earth, fallen from grace Naked, violated, all alone A Ni-Kunni nun took me home
At first though, I found it odd That anyone would talk to me of God My life was in ruins, everything a mess Why would she help meGÇöso worthless?
But she kept at it, day by day Helping me get better, showing the way
I was a bruised and broken woman, but she helped me to heal She said God would help me, all I had to do was kneel Submit to God; accept His commandments and carry out His will It was a night of humility, of surrender, to God and Empress Jamyl
I will never forget who brought me light And saved me on that darkest night
Thank you, Sister Rahma.

Life spoke to the void. "Why do so many hate me? Yet they cling so tightly to my cloak."
Death spoke to the void. "I am accursed and feared by so many. Yet they all come to me in the end."
Joy spoke to the void. "I am pursued by all. Yet they find me so elusive."
Hope asked the void: "Why am I both held so tightly and thrown so easily away?"
War spoke to the void. "I am what they hate. Yet they cannot live without me."
Peace spoke to the void. "I am sought by all. Yet they have never found me"
Innocence asked the void: "Why am I both the first they have and the first they lose?"
Strife asked the void: "Why am I the one that they hate to love? Yet they still do so love me."
Intellect said to the void: "I lead them further toward salvation. Yet I also lead them toward destruction."
Madness asked the void: "Why are those blessed by me the only ones to see the truth?"
Sanity asked the void: "Why am I both the lense to see and the fog obscuring?"
Sleep said the the void: "I am necessary to them. Yet they do not know when I am with them."
Pain spoke to the void. "I am both the warning and the danger. Yet I am loved by some more than life."
The void spoke to them all.
"Life, you are a beautiful lie."
"Death, you are a painful truth."
"Joy, you are the fleeting escape."
"Hope, you are what gives them reason."
"War, you are what gives them meaning."
"Peace, you are never to be found."
"Innocence, you are what gives memories meaning."
"Strife, you are the catalyst."
"Intellect, you are an illusion."
"Madness, you are a warrior's last stand."
"Sanity, you are an accepted hypocrisy."
"Sleep, you are the glimpse of reality."
"Pain, you are the lightning rod in the maelstrom."
"And what are you?" They asked the void.
The void replied.
"I am you"

Title:The Rime of Identifying as a Kestrel Frigate
One to one I duel at top sun The Kestrel spreads its wings Only missiles no need for gun Rage and the Scourge to bring
Burning towards the dangerzone Thermal safeties redline Tongue tasting the warmth of ozone Heat rising up my spine
Hot enough the weed is now lit As it says in Scripture Passage Four and Twenty praise it Drunk with vodka mixture
They keep on holding on to hope But I will never die Rockets are fired with no scope Local salt as they cry
No mad as crew die to spalling Unlike rifle Mark 8 There is not a trigger warning Embrace the final fate
Now killmail has been confirmed How, I am asked with strain I consider with smile not stern A laugh: "I do cocaine."

This poem is a classical Khanid form, and its traditional purpose is to call out bad manners and shameful behavior. As such, it's short. I hope you'll all forgive my shortcomings and my alluding to subject matter not especially familiar.
In return I make you a count, says the Holder, so splendid, so gold Now you marry this poor little thing nobody worth noting will count Lord Vaari can feast on ripe guts and the feet of the beasts of the field. In shame we both rot.
That said, something nicer:
How joyous the Gate as the Eye of God looks into New Eden The eye sees us all bare and shameless, forgives us all, forgives our shame Knows our pettinesses and our rotten grievances toward our friends Fat stomachs ignored. |

at this point, I have, with 7, more likes for my effort, than anyone else, followed by Alizabeth's own entry with 6, Anabella Rella's with 5, and Loai Qerl and Karina Ivanovich with 4.
By various standards, that would mean I would probably have won.
I shall therefore add "renowned poet" to my list of accolades.

Populism vs elitism? No, not at all, rather, the debate would be art that provokes thought and art that is intended to serve the observer the comfortable pablum that encourages not thinking. Which is why...

I know is closed but I wanted to show two little poems I wrote, I hope is okay ^^
In the Darkness of Space
In the darkness of space, I fear nothing.
In my ship, I travel through endless voids and when I dock, I only dream to be back.
The room is dark. The space is not. The space is dotted with stars, their light shining on my hull.
The room is still the ship is not always humming with energy and power.
But soon, soon I'll be back in space. Ready for another adventure...

Who I am
I see myself in the mirror Who really I am? I'm a pilot. I fly ships. I fight. I win and loose. But under the steely hull, who really I am?
Under the hull there is a person who live, who breath, who cry.
This is me, Myioshi Akachi
