hi all new to eve and of course in the training mission I got blown away lol. - my boss cam to the room and I had to tun off the monitor . so I was in my pod and going towards a station which is 8.7 (if I remember ) IU away ? Where can I read about eve - to get the measurement of this amazing universe - if there is anyone new who wants to join me as we learn that will be awesome - I mean that is nothing like a few newbies getting shot lol.

^ lol Eve at work is always dangerous.
Just dock at a station and you will get a new Reaper to fly around in. Press the dock or warp button to actually go to it though, don't try and manually fly their. It will take years. |

1 AU (astronomical unit) is 149.597.870.700 meters. 149.597.781 kilometers. Your pod goes, and I'm guessing here, 200m/s? So it's going to take you 207.774 hours, or 8.657 days, or 23.7 years to fly that manually, not counting in daily downtime ;)
Just select the station on your overview and press the "warp" icon and you'll make it in a matter of seconds.
Edit: I made a boo-boo and calculated that using 1 AU as base line.. Take the number times 8.7 for actual distance to station. Leaves us with 206.19 years manual travel distance! Start now and your grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-children can dock up for you :)
When you don't know the difference between there, their, and they're, you come across as being so uneducated that your viewpoint can be safely dismissed. The literate is unlikely to learn much from the illiterate.

As Memphis listed
there's an awful lot of reading that you can do to understand eve a little more
add "islands amongst the stars" to that list
mission guides -- > http://eve-survival.org/wikka.php?wakka=HomePage navigation & Sov info --> http://evemaps.dotlan.net/
other potentially useful stuff http://www.ellatha.com/eve/LP_Stores.asp http://eveplanets.com/ https://eve-central.com/home/market.html http://eve-online.itemdrop.net/
that's a small start anyway have fun.

Hello and welcome to Eve.
As for finding other new players to fleet up with, you can ask in Corp chat as well as ask in the Starter systems and where Career Agents are located.
Speaking of the Career Agents, if you haven't done so, I suggest completing all 5 Agents, then run the level 1 Sisters Of Eve Epic Arc. That will give you time to train up the Core Fitting Skills and make some ISK while deciding on which career path to pursue here in Eve.
Good luck to you, may you have a long and rewarding career here.
