Yep, cause quitting cause daddy didn't give you a present strikes me as a sober, mature response...

I don't see the point of getting all worked up about the way the Xmas gifts were handled. They were free for crying out loud. Of course, I don't see why a company would offer gifts to it's customers, without a sensible plan for advertising and distributing them.
Offering a selection to choose from was brilliant, though I suspect it was more to do market research, or a stealth polling scheme. I guess it doesn't matter why CCP did it in the first place. probably a last minute goodwill gesture after all.
For what it's worth, I checked out the gift selection several times this week, and didn't notice the deadline until I went to make my selection today. I filed a petition, but I won't cry if I don't get anything. Being able to play this game is gift enough for me. |

You're probably right, but when you're fighting off the age-onset Victor Meldrew syndrome, it gets hard to resist.

I don't have a problem with it. Bye.
What I'm doing is exercising my right to laugh at you and call you immature because you quit a game (that I assume you enjoy) because you missed a free, in game, gift. If you have a problem with that, tough. |

Well over a week. Plenty of time for a threadnaught to go up suggesting changes to the remap mechanics, for CCP to evaluate those suggestions, and then for CCP to change the remap mechanics and implement the change.
Well, I for one saw it 4 days ago. And I watch news actively. If there's one thing that playing and following MMORPGs thaught me is that MMORPG users are here to play the game, not to read the news.
Apparently CCP didn't learn that lesson yet. Leaving it open for a while longer was the right course of action here. Anyone that argues against it is just playing devil's advocate for the sake of playing it, I hope.
"hey, it's christmas for you only if you read the news!" simply isn't good business or good marketing, and CCP isn't exactly in the best condition to afford making more users unhappy for no reason at all.
I'm quite sure not many (if any) will quit over this, but it is generating negativity that could and should easily be predicted and avoided and can hopefully still be amended. |

Damn, log in everyday to find patches blocking my view, when I finally see it its on the last day 4 hours after it closed.
tbh the only day I saw any information about were to find the gift options was on the very same day it ended, I log in to choose the gift only to be told the options were closed.
Next time ccp try no to post your messages at the log in screen at the same time as the patches. It makes it impossible to read the message.
edit: I dont read trash mail from your e-zine on my email, I have enough with the ingame mails to begin with. |

I believe that this year's xmas gifts were to reward the the true eve online players, who are dedicated enough to follow it's news and be interested in it's latest developments. CPP even made the reward for players who stuck by them with their efforts at WIS by making it the best valued gift :D |

I am again not crying in my beer ... and am usually a CCP appologist ... but this is another nick to the brand.
Eve is a very sophisticated game with a sophisticated user base and while I think most of them are technically brilliant, someone in Reykjevik needs to take a marketing class.
To give a gift to your userbase in such a way that a lot of people miss it, is going to leave a lot of people with a bad feeling and makes the company look like idiots ... IMHO.
Happy Festivus to everyone.

Waiting for statistics on the follow-through rate of Holiday Gift selection among active accounts (accounts which logged in between Dec 12 and Dec 21) in contrast to redemption rate among active accounts from previous years.
Because I'm really curious how many active accounts didn't get the memo to go to Account Management to tell Santa what they wanted. |

Khoga Zdag wrote:ShipToaster wrote:The aurum gift is an item in game. Two "aurum tokens" worth 1000 aurum each so you can redeem them to whoever you want or sell them for decent isk.
This is also a communication fail. The WEB Page and the DEVs told about AURUM, not about an Item that can be transferred. I think the 2000 Aurum given to a character isn't the same value as the currently used "Aurum tokens". It's also seen on the Aurum token price: Currently in ISK the best gift item is the Aurum token which is worth more than 200m ISK, while all other item (except the neural remap that doesn't have an exact value in ISK) worth 30-60m ISK. I agree 100% with this. I would have chosen this if I would have known I could sell it for more Isk than the implant. Oh well, I will hang onto the implant for now and sell when they become more rare.

Eve Online Newsletter vol.70 was sent out on 12/17/11 at 2200 GMT. Included in the first paragraph: "The holiday gift selection ends December 21st." I don't play eve to read newsletters! If there was a gift then it should be on the login screen, and I never saw the login screen because of the patches, makes me laugh though that those who got the gift act all smug and self righteous on the forums lol .....but anyways.
Yeah, can only agree. Since the gift wouldn't be available until after the 22nd, I decided not to bother with until then. And ho ho ho, needed to DECIDE before the 21st. Crappy way of changing how things get redeemed, but never mind then.
At next billing cycle CCP, don't forget to apply for it 1 day in advance, or no money for you. Thanks. |

James Kopp wrote:I can see something getting REALLY messed up here (not that it's messed up already). Already filed a petition before this topic was made, and am not going to remove it unless I see the number of bonus remaps on this character change from 1 to 2 and my alt character NOT change from 1 to 0.
Also, I think those who didn't choose a gift should get the bonus remap by default instead of nothing at all. It's not fair for people on vacation, unable to access the internet, or playing other games as well as EVE Online and just logging in "casually" to update training queues to not be rewarded with something. Everything done by CCP recently has been to make the "bittervets" happier and those who left after Incarna want to come back, but I can see people leaving again for good over getting a figurative "lump of coal" as their gift.
Yes, I missed this as I was on vacation! It's rather unfair that there was only 4 days to read and log in for this, and I was out of internet access for that time. |

I missed it, oh well.
I have to wonder, though, is CCP really so bad at life that they can't even give gifts in a way that doesn't annoy people?
I'm not going to quit over this, it's just another eye-rolling moment.
I do wish that I knew the actual percentage of accounts that redeemed their gift. It would probably make for interesting discussion. Or not. |

Listening to you people whine about every god damn thing that has ever gone wrong with your precious this or that, where EVERYTHING is a DISASTER GOD CCP you are TERRIBLE and you will NEVER get MY MONEY AGAIN, is, well, depressing for the lack of a better word. I don't know how CCP does it. I can just see these people in real life having a heart attack at the drive through window about how their burger didn't have enough sauce or wasn't hot enough.
The worst part is the very nature of these people makes telling them about it impossible. A psychologist would have a field day with this place.
I missed the free gifts. Woops. Does it suck? I guess, in a I-missed-a-free-gift-in-a-video-game kind of way, but I'm not going to rage about it. Have there been problems? Sure, just tell them about it. Don't tell them how much they suck or how its not surprising. CCP goes out of their way to be transparent and patch friendly and assholes like you guys just ruin that. Soon they will realize not telling anybody anything will be the way to go. |

This message is directly for CCP
as well as the individuals who have posted so far who are practically saying:
"Ha ha, too bad, you didn't pay close enough attention to THE VERY FEW notices COVERED OVER BY AN UPDATE BOX and ONE article regarding specifically how to go about redeeming your GIFT and by when".
Reasons why? 1 - As stated by a previous poster - This way of redeeming gifts has NEVER been done before! 2 - It is a CHRISTMAS GIFT !!!!!!!!!!!!! That we MISS OUT ON IF WE DIDN'T CHOOSE BEFORE DECEMBER 22ND???
^^^^^^^^ Are you freaking kidding me?????

What about people who haven't been able to physically log in? In my case I was helping a family member in the hospital while dealing with holiday errands for 2 people. Other players are on vacation, traveling, etc. Finding out I just missed the day is kind of a kick in the nuts.
Given the length of the various holiday celebrations, wouldn't a two week period make a lot more sense? |

1: You obviously had to go to a page that required a log in so that your "choice" of gift went to the correct account and your choice could be recorded.
2: If you can't notice whats on the log in screen, managed to miss dozens of threads about it on the forums, 2 dev blogs, news items, and either never check your email or refuse the EVE newsletter you have bigger issues than missing an imaginary free gift.
3: Send in a petition and they'll likely give it to you anyway.
4: For gods sake quit whining. Revenge should not stop at the ship!

Now the apologists and fanbois will run in screaming at you that you should have read every dev blog with a hidden blurb about gifts in and unrelated blog about something else, and paid attention to all the spam on log in screens. (which studies had shown very few people pay attention to things spammed ever day.) And noticed it on the news side bar which is usually filled with RP baloney not worth the time for most. And lets not forget they admit the majority of players dont use the forums at all. Twitter and FB? Lets hope the message didnt get bumped by other posts on those right?
But the fact remains they cant get around the fact that they did not EVE mail everyone. The most direct and sure way to get the message out to the players. While they didnt have problems doing so for the NEX store. This glaring point cannot be ignored. |
