Each ship gets a capacity to hold infantry. The capacity varies from ship type, role and race. For example: frigate - 5 men. cruiser - 50 men. bs - 500 men.
"Ammunition" can be bought as ship service in stations.
New drone and fighter types can carry a certain amount of own soldiers to an enemy ship. They drop the infantry and return to carry more men until commanded to stop. Like an inversed mining drone scheme. If attacker is not careful and sends to many men, he has not enough soldiers left if he is attacked himself with infantry.
If enemy soldiers are present on a ship a fight starts to begin, soldiers are killed on both attackers and defenders side by time. Chances are better for the side that fields more soldiers at the moment. If a lot of soldiers are dropped the ship can be overrun.
If no defenders are on a ship it is very vulnerable to infantry. Depending on ship size, role et cetera a certain threshold of attackers needs to be present to trigger a bomb. So even if no soldiers are left you cannot trigger a bomb by just sending one soldier.
If threshold is not met, the attackers will slowly die (slain by remaining crew).
If the bomb explodes all remaining attackers on the ship are killed. Effects of the bomb can be chosen by attacker: * Deployed in the engine room: Ship cannot warp or prop modules are disabled for a certain amount of time. * Weapon array. Ship cannot fire (a certain amount of time) * Command bridge. Ship is blind for some time. No HUD. No targets, no ship status. ^^ * Ship core. Ship gets some damage.
New modules to be better prepared: * Crew quarters - Increased capacity for infantry. * Automated defense systems - Overall better performance of defenders and/or increased threshold of attackers needed to trigger bomb.
New drone/fighter types: * Boarding capsules (destroyed after first deploy) * Boarding shuttle * Boarding transporter (can transport more troops) |

This is not WH40K, We don't launch boarding actions in space. We have shields that can withstand nuclear warheads every second, we have warp cores that go critical, we have armour that you shoot cars at and self repairs. You are not magically boarding through that sort of environment. |

this is the problem with you ppl referring to BBs as BS' makes it so much harder to call you on your B.S.

How does your infantry get through shields, armour and hull that can tank anything from nuclear explosions to being covered with antimatter or artillery shells the size of buildings?
Why should tank be irrelevant in the face of boarding mechanics? |

This crazy notion of troops that can board a ship comes up from time to time. It was a really bad idea the very first time it was mentioned, it is a really bad idea this time and it will be a really bad idea the next time it comes up.
I have no desire to play an idiotic mini game to try and defend myself against your "troops" while I am trying to defend myself from the direct ship to ship attack. And the thought that CCP may write the code to handle this for us is the stuff of nightmare, hell they cannot even get a simple new ship introduction (T3D's) and you want me to trust them with this? Words allowed on these forums cannot even begin to describe how bad that is. |

....it...doesn't? No ewar involves completely bypassing a ship's tank and destroying it without firing a shot, which is what your idea is. Hell, most ewar is just messing with sensors, something real world militaries have been doing since anything more advanced than an eyeball was invented. |

In most fights a ship lasts mere seconds after being targeted. Boarding is too complicated and too slow compared to simply shooting ships to pieces.
This is also why boarding is rarely practical during a fight in the real world. It's more something done covertly or by pirates against non-combat ships.

They have been using deception since the dawn of hostilities between people, so yes that includes they eyes. Perhaps one of the best large scale examples of this was Operation Fortitude leading up to the invasion of Normandy on D-Day. Even the Romans used dummies as diversions to try and fool those who were attacking, or those they were about to attack.

Oh my god,m there are enemy troops in the ships. And the capsuleer releases the acidic neurotoxin into the crew life support system. Crew are, after all, expendable. Much like ammunition.

This is an awesome idea. It would give elite end game players something to do while TIDI slowly ticks on. We could primary one super and board and swipe another. Once the super (any ship for that matter) is over run - it's reasonable that soldiers can't pilot it, so planting charges and scuttling it is the only reasonable course of action.
I would think a single smartbomb would be highly effective against boarding parties in close range. |

I would like to point out that you could board ships and take over them in few notable Star Trek simulator games. You could do a lot by utilizing boarding parties, but what was different it was slower combat than in EVE.
So actually boarding parties would have to be designed In EVE when there is a lot of time to board and take over something. Like with structures.
Every part of a game helps to tell a story. =ƒôò

Lets see, problems with this in brief...
- Lore: How the heck do the boarders get through the shields and armor and onto the ship, and if I can get infantry on board why can't I just stuff a nuke inside someone's hull and call it a day?
- What does this actually add to the game in terms of meaningful gameplay? So far this looks like a cargo/money check on the ship, basically adding another health bar but one you have to spend money and cargo space to maintain.
- In what way is this remotely a balanced mechanic? You're basically saying either you take up some amount of fairly limited cargo space with these infantry units or you're extremely vulnerable to getting screwed over.
This strikes me as another "this sounds cool/cinematic" idea with no real consideration given to gameplay and then a bunch of mechanics/gameplay effects tacked on to justify the original idea. |

I think it would have to be tied with EVE NOVA and would have to be only initialized from the EVE by putting up a match on Nova server. The outcome of a match would be only to capture structure. Something what is not for now in EVE, so actually some new stuff. This doesn't work. If you own it inside EVE you have to defend it in EVE, not subcontract it out to a totally different game you have no control over. |

Actually I introduced an extra cargo bay. So the existing cargo bays are not touched. About the money: How much it costs to fill your bay with soldiers would be up to design decisions and tweasks. I can also think about that as a service in citadels. So like repair service it can be free for friends. |

Wow, I go away for a few months and the same ideas keep coming up!
boarding actions just won't work in Eve's combat system, there's already too much going on in combat to worry about boarding troops too
