An eve friend and I have been discussing the current cyno navigation mechanics and believe we've come up with an interesting twist that could stir up New Eden and create new content.
Firstly these changes would only be to Super Capitol class ships. Therefore Jump Freighters and Black Ops would be unaffected.
- Supers can now jump anywhere in their current region
- They go back to no longer be able to go through normal gates
- They must use a regional gate in order to cross regional borders
The first rule will allow super capitols to easily respond to threats within their home systems. The second rule is more of an aesthetic choice. Normal gates half the size of a titan should not be able to sling that titan between star system. The third rule is to create content. These choke points will become natural strongholds for many alliances. Therefore any invading force will likely need to hit these systems with large forces and possibly run an extended campaign just to enter enemy territory. With Super Capitol fleets now able to drop in from anywhere in the region, the defenders will be able to respond to any attacks swiftly. We imagine massive capitol fights with citadels on grid as static defenses.
Now here's where the free to play comes in. Free to play is obviously going to have a large impact on Eve. Mining, cynos, and PI will become easy for players to afford to do on multiple accounts. With these giant fleet fights coming from these possible changes. There will be plenty of demand for raw materials to balance out the flood of new resources that should hit the markets as a result of the free to play.
We would like to discuss these 3 rules, individually or as a whole, flush out any Jump Fatigue changes Supers might need in order to balance with these new rules, as well as make predictions on the long term affects of these changes and of the coming free to play. Thank you for your interest and any input.

Normally i dont get involved with threads about supers but just wanted to let you know, alpha clones cannot use cynos or pi.
EVE FAQ "7.2 CAN I AVOID PVP COMPLETELY? No; there are no systems or locations in New Eden where PvP may be completely avoided"

Why not carriers and fax machines?
Also, F2P lol. Nothing to do with capitals is free to play, even from November onwards.

But why is it a good thing to go back to having 200 PL Nyx able to drop in on absolutely every fight anywhere in the galaxy in six midpoints or less? |

You look at this the wrong way. What PL did was a service. A friendly ratting capital removal service. Don't pve in capitals.

But the more people who rat in the capitals, the more targets there are for everyone else who likes to kill ratting capitals.
CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

You know its going to be a great, well thought out plan, by an experienced super pilot who often fights in nullsec when the words "SuperCapital" and "Capital" are spelled Capitol.

This is already the case in several areas, eg Curse to Catch or Curse to Derelik, due to the distance (in LY) between them... have to admit I liked that. We could gauge whether people were in blops range or not, and for small gangs that's a boon.
It also meant pursuers often stopped dead in their tracks at the borders and then the gig was up ;-)
That said, moving caps is tedious enough as it is, thank you very much. |
