(And also myself).
Sponsors this year: -EVE-Bet (23 bil ISK) -unknown person(s) (1.25 bil ISK) -High Drag podcast (1 PLEX) -Clueless Space Nerds podcast (1 bil ISK) -Domanark (1 bil ISK) -The Angel Project (1 bil ISK) -Rixx Javix (2 Bhaalgorns) -Zendane (audio recording of the winning story) -labtechwar (banner design) -MysteriousAlt (25 bil ISK donation, contest co-coordinating, prizes wrangling, treasurer duties)
Thank you, fine and generous sponsors and supporters of the arts!
This year we'll again have three contest categories. 8,000 Suns in New Eden - For lore/backstory faithful fiction. A Day in the Life - For stories set in the ingame world, or just freeform and not strictly conforming to the lore. Other Things Just Make You Swear and Curse - Humo(u)r!
More guidance on all of this and detailed guidelines are on the contest webpage. For here, important things to know are stories can be up to 5,000 words, and the deadline for entry is October 26. That's one month from today. More coming in this thread was we go along to.
Get on it, writers and about to be writers!

Submitting my first entry ever into any writing contest, and by far the longest piece of creative writing I have ever written.
Submitting for the "A Day in the Life" category.

Fun Fact: I wrote this today in six hours.
I am kind of nervous about creative writing, but I am confident that my work will do reasonably well. |

Currently working on my reviews of everyone's submissions. In the meantime, he's some general writing advice for next year!
GÇóThe most important rule to remember when writing, especially when pertaining to a particular character, is this question: Is this the most interesting thing to happen to your character, and if not, why arenGÇÖt we reading about that?
GÇóExposition is a powerful tool, but be wary of how it is used. A general saying goes along with exposition: GÇ£DonGÇÖt TELL us what happened, SHOW us what happenedGÇ¥. Be especially cautious not to let your exposition be more interesting than the story youGÇÖre telling!
GÇóBe careful of simple sentence starts! An experienced writer will often work to give each sentence a particular flare, catching the eye of the reader. Read these two sentences, and ask yourself which sounds better: - GÇ£He walked over to the computer console and typed on the keys. He spelled out the words with deft precision.GÇ¥ - GÇ£Walking over to the computer console, he began to type on the keys. With deft precision, he spelled out the words.GÇ¥
GÇóRemember that dialogue is an important and powerful tool that can be used to your advantage. The way your character behaves while he speaks is a great indicator of who he is as a person. Consider many of the works by Quintin Tarantino, in which many of his movies have extensive dialogue scenes. His characters are often performing other actions, such as making coffee, or cleaning up blood. Try these examples: - GÇ£ISK is the sole source of power,GÇ¥ he said, in smooth baritone, with a sharp, wolfish grin as he crossed his arms over his chest. - GÇ£Well, I can't really afford a new one,GÇ¥ she said, placing the chemical soaked rag against the dilapidated, blood-spattered cushion of the sofa.
GÇóDonGÇÖt be afraid to start with the middle or the end of your story! The introduction to the story is the hardest part, and a lot of writers forego writing it until they've established what they want to happen. Feel free to flesh out your story from its most interesting aspects, and then fill in the blanks later on.
