A number of players have stated they are encountering difficulty utilizing the client autopatcher or downloading the client from the EVE Online Patches page. Some of these players have had to resort to downloading the client from third party sites, a potentially risky course of action.
In an effort to resolve these difficulties, I'm requesting information from members of the EVE community who have not been able to use EVE's services to patch their client. The Operations team will use this information to investigate the issue and determine whether we need to provide mirrors, troubleshoot connections to Limelight, or other options.
If you are one of the aforementioned users, please send me an e-mail with your IP address, geographical location (city, state/region, country) and the IP address the manual patch URL resolves to (if you are familiar with how to get this IP). The information gathered will be used to resolve patch issues.

sometimes a tracert can be handy.
in a dos window (start/run CMD or COMMAND) type TRACERT WWW.EVE-ONLINE.COM > C:\RESULTS.TXT
shows some usefull info for those that dont know already.

I had some serious issue patching, but not with the patch delivery.
Autopatcher worked, downloaded, installed, failed on resdungeons.stuff - CRC error.
Followed manual link, downloaded patch, installed, failed on CRC again.
Had to do a full client reinstall after this.
Am i the only one?

Antivirus or something similar installed getting in the way perhaps? I had to disable mine a little while back because i kept getting corrupt Nvidia drivers from their site.

I didn't, but if Trend PC Cillin 2007 is causing the issue, this is the first time i have heard of it.
I got the full client leeched, and it works now, so nowt too bad :)

Same thing happened to me. CRC check failed on autopatch. Had to reinstall the client. Tried downloading and it just stopped halfway through. I'm guessing it was just strain on the server. Tried again about 2030GMT and it downloaded fine at full bandwidth.

CRC error on resMusic.stuff using autopatcher, same error after manually downloading the patch.
Now I get to waste my time downloading 616 megs for the client, uninstall the old client, defrag the machine, install the new client, redo all of my settings, and be in a generally ****ed off mood now.

Any update or comment on your progress?
As today was another patch I just wanted to let you know that I was still unable to autopatch.
As a matter of fact I can't patch at all, so any kind of progress report or new insight would be appreciated as there might be something that works for me as well.
Just hate it not being able to play.

Hi This is a bit premature, as I have not finished testing here, but: I have tried to download various versions of the full client, not just from the eve online download page. My attempst include full versions both with and without download manager (DAP), zipped and full ftp hosted versions (27121), all with the same results - NSIS error, CRC failed. Bypassing using /NCRC demonstrates the file is indeed corrupt. The results are the same in safe mode. Hence I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that it is not the client file on the server that is at fault, but something else. Hence I went looking on the net for the NSIS error itself and found that problems with hardware, incl mobo, memory sticks and most particularly the NIC were mentioned as potential causes. (You could try setting your network cards for lower speed (if not at 10mbit already) and/or half duplex. And check the cable(s) .. Here is one external ref: http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt-2000-xp/533518-nsis-error-maddening.html From Eve forums: 1.(http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=75188&page=2): I had the same problem a few weeks ago, 1 of my memory sticks was toast.
Note - I can actually install other programs downloaded, but these are MUCH smaller and more straightforward. I think I would be right in saying a game client is a test bound to break the system if it is going to break. The fix in the link below is in fact replacing the broken part of the download (slick fix btw): http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=85548 - This of course can only work if you still have a copy of EVE... One test you can do to eliminate the NIC is to download to another machine and then copy the file across by CD. Another test might be to try a download of another game client of similar size. I will add this posting to favs to update if I find anything further. -There is also more on this in Eve forums to the point where I think a lot of this thinking has already been done - then forgotten. CCP if you read this, please distil and pass the info to all appropriate support areas (Website FAQ and GMs...) PQ |
