I mean, I've never seen a white area, not even a red. MAYBE a bit of green. Are my settings wrong? Or are there no decent spots on planets left by now? When you view the planet press the scan button, a colored bar is directly under it now. Grab the triangle at the right end of the colored bar with your left mouse button and drag it to the left to adjust scan resolution. Also right click the planet and choose "Show other characters' networks" so you don't set your extractors on top of someone else's - unless you are going for pvp PI.

I've now got 5 planets up and running, producing one item each, so there is minimal effort on my part, extract two raw materials, refine and combine them into something else. I'll report back on the financial aspect when I can pull a decent amount of the item off of the planet. I've initially pulled 200 units of "mechanical parts" 180k to get the parts to the customs station 16k in tax 11% below market value and cleared 1.6 mil |

I've been trying to keep track of my * current * profits with the minerals in storage. So far as I can figure, jumping into a high sec planet that can produce P3's with on-planet resources is the best way to go.
Currently up to 15m in profit with my smartfab unit generation. I think leading up to that, the best I could hope for was around 5m or so with P2 materials.
Also, would it be smarter / better just to send your P2-P3 material to the command center and do a basic launch? No taxes from the offices.
Just curious. I'll soon be moving all my P3 materials, so maximizing profits from my first batch would be nice. |

I'm confused by this statement...
it seems that each additional step away from the extraction process whittles down the resource produced. so by the time it gets to an advanced facility two extractors can feed one advanced facility through two basic facilities. but then I could be wrong. If you do PI in low sec each ECU creates more product, so you don't need more of them, What you might need is more basic processors.
Indeed they do... I have one ECU feeding 5 basic factories on one planet, and I still have to have to use an entire 5k m3 storage building just to buffer the stuff coming out of the ECU. I could use one spaceport for all storage, but this lets me ignore it for a long, long time.
For anyone looking into starting up PI, I'd suggest sketching some notions out on paper and comparing them to other people's setups. It will keep you from fiddling with the setups too much in the start and save you a couple of million ISK. |

Actually if you used a launchpad you could ignore it for even longer.
I have to say I was initially sceptical but I truly lurve the new PI. The real change to it has been the increase in the capacity of the links. |
