I was running EVE right before DT, after DT it seems that CCP have pulled support for the old launcher. I have the new one installed so I fire it up instead, it downloads a few updates and then I log in. I get to the character selection screen and choose my toon. It then goes to a blank screen for a few seconds and then I get two messages (one on top of the other) saying "Connection lost - The socket was closed."
I've downloaded the new launcher again and installed it but i'm still getting the same error. Not sure what's changed but I'm now broken!
Any links to other topics, troubleshooting tips etc would be much appreciated.

Ok, so it seems that the new launcher has some nice diagnostics built-in. So the issue appears to be here:
--- K:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\Shared\tq\code.ccp\requests\packages\urllib3\util\ssl_.pyj:318: SNIMissingWarning: An HTTPS request has been made, but the SNI (Subject Name Indication) extension to TLS is not available on this platform. This may cause the server to present an incorrect TLS certificate, which can cause validation failures. You can upgrade to a newer version of Python to solve this. For more information, see https://urllib3.readthedocs.org/en/latest/security.html#snimissingwarning. . . . Ok So I have figured out a workaround for my issue.
1. Run the "evelauncher.exe" 2. Goto your taskbar at the bottom right and locate the small EVE symbol and Right click on it and go to Settings 3. Place a check in the box "Ignore certification errors" and select OK. 4. Login to eve
EDIT -- CCP I would still like to know why I have to ignore these errors to get it working :) |

So if you right click on the EVE icon in the taskbar and go to "Start Loglite" and then try and start the game, do you get any errors generated?

Hi Kattara, Login worked after I re booted. So I guess your workaround did "fix" this issue.

I hadn't been aware of these settings etc before this. Now I wonder if my old machine at home that can't download new launcher is done for :) |

I came back to eve after a hiatus and EVE did a download and lo and behold F**king CCP!
Well maybe not. I noticed that AW was acting strange (their version of Socket closed) Mumble too, since it upgraded a couple of days before. Whilst the common problem was the socket issue it happened after each was updated.
I dug around.
Long story short It was not CCP or Obsidian or Mumble it was that team of total tards...Microsoft. Every time I patch i have issues, didn't see anything after the last patch so I didn't think about them straight away. It appears that every time MS patches it updates/fucks my wifi drivers. I reinstalled and now (lo and behold, the only change today i can see) they all work seamlessly
I'm not saying that this is the root of other people's issues, but if I were you I'd reinstall the wifi drivers.

Same issue. Before it i have sochet close everytime i try to create a new character, in afk, in alt+tab and other rare times... Now i cant even enter the game. No any response from CCP. |

I am getting this too. My network provider is Rogers (Canada). Sometimes I can log in, other times I can't.

I can log in fine every time.
I then get dumped from server ( Socket Closed ) after 1 hour of gameplay. It's not an 'idle' thing, as I am usually in the middle of something when I get dumped. Stuff just stops loading ( like info on items in the market ) and I know that I am being dumped from the server.
Am gonna try the 'ignore error cert doodah' thing. |

Have the same problem here EU Fullrate IPS, Never had any problems until downtime, tried wifi and cable connection same issue. |

This morning it has reversed for me. To login i now had to ENABLE the ssl check. Ahh CCP never change.

I tried many things to do) Turning on DMZ with my comp ip, turning on ipv6 protocol, clean cache, reinstalling client, cable/wifi both connections, closing launcher when after get in game etc. etc. etc....Nothing works for me. I still fear to kill NPC's, cause i allready lost 1 machariel like that and i still cant create a new character. Thanks, CCP. From Russia with love * |

I am having the same issue, though ignoring Cert errors did not fix it for me.
Only way I can log in is to use a cellular hotspot for my ISP.
Would love to hear some input from CCP on this.

Yeah not sure been having same issue since last DT. Hopefully its an easy fix only thing that might work is i completely log my accounts off (From launcher). Then constantly keeped logging in til it worked but seem like i have to do this every time i log an account in. |

Fixed the problem by deleting everything in shared cache folder still getting errors in log. But client is stable |

I cleared the cache and still get dumped off of the server after 1 hour of gameplay.
Logging in is fine. It's just staying logged on for more than an hour where I have the problem :/

Hy, I also have some issues. I know someone said CCP was made aware, but maybe some of mine will help find the issue.
- Since DT today I get disconnected exactly every hour after login. - Always the first instance on one PC gets the socket closed... all other run without interruption (always the same two drop out of four). - Rebooting PCs, Router, changing Network, switching WiFi to Cable and vice versa has no effect. - The disconnecting instance can be detected during login, because it gets a grainy screen (you have to zoom in to see that the black is grainy speckled with grey). Never seen that before, nor do the others share that screen. Weird thing.
Hope that helps (and get fixed). I was fleet booster today and the one with the Leadership skills and implants.. dropped every hour and fleet comp got busted 8(
