The most important thing about watfare is usually the ability to control a fight. All three of the wat-ships use missiles, so a good choice. I recommend shields and a prop mod and missiles in cargo and you are good to go.
Eve Minions is recruiting. Learn from about pvp, learn about ships and how to fly them correctly. Small gang and solo action in high, low and nullsec and w-space alike.
We will teach you everything you need and want to know.

You can jump into dramiel or worm and wonder, why everyone and his granny decline the fight. FW does let you know to find out what is incomming and then accept the fight or ran away. So your ship must be ENGAGEABLE. Of cause if you are in FW for quick PvP posibilities and not for LP farming. T3 destroyer will not be able to jump inot small plex, not speaking about novice. So if you want fights you should be flying a T1 non-pirate frigate, cause it can jump into just any plex and you will get most of fights. So, much for FW specific choice of ship. If you are totaly new for PvP I would suggest to use something tanky to be able to at least understand what is going on before you pop. Active tank is a bit hard to utilise if you are not very experienced with it. Faction navy ships are called navy for a reason. Comet can be fitted to brawle, kite or scram kite. Most use it for brawle. Slicer is mostly one trick pony - kiting ship. Hookbill is ... well I would say kite or scram kite but I am not good at it. There are few, who understand how to use Firetail properly and I am no expert here.

Firetail for you:
High 2x 280mm Howitzer Artillery II, Republic Fleet EMP (Phased plasma/Fusion) Rocket Launcher II, Caldari Navy _______ Rocket.
Mids: 1 MN Afterburner II Warp Scrambler II Fleeting Compact Stasis Webifier Fleeting Compact Stasis Webifier
Low: Small Ancillary Armor Repairer, Nanite Repair Paste IFFA Compact Damage Control Gyrostabilizer II
Rigs: Small Anti-Explosive Pump I Small Auxillary Nano Pump I Small Auxillary Nano Pump I
Dual webs gives excellent range control and combined with the tracking bonus on the hull allows from some pretty nasty volleys assuming you load the correct ammo for the fight. The rocket launcher isn't the greatest but the fit is pretty tight as is, generally I find it's best used against drones launched by ships with limited drone capability especially if they can't get close enough to apply damage. More than two drones or multiple flights of drones don't bother just add the 20 dps or whatever to whatever you're fighting.
I provided a cheap fit without implants here. This is kind of the baseline I use, the more you dump into implants or whatever allows for a neut in place of the rocket launcher.
Basically set keep at range for 8km hold him down and hit him hard. Works pretty well against low buffer active reps. It's possible on some hits to punch clean through the active tank into the layers below.
Reality has an almost infinite capacity to resist oversimplification.

Faction warfare is basically a giant matchmaking system for fights, with its own meta. To a certain extent, then, you are going to fit depending on what you intend to counter.
I'm just getting started in FW (and you can follow my efforts on my blog, if you are interested), and I've been mostly flying Amarr ships. I did try out a Suitonia style FW Kestrel for a while, and it's a pretty impressive ship.
[Kestrel, New Setup 1] Damage Control II Ballistic Control System II
1MN Afterburner II J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I Fleeting Propulsion Inhibitor I Medium Shield Extender II
Rocket Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Rocket Rocket Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Rocket Rocket Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Rocket Rocket Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Rocket
Small Warhead Calefaction Catalyst I Small Bay Loading Accelerator I [empty rig slot]
Caldari Navy Mjolnir Rocket x1000 Caldari Navy Inferno Rocket x1000 Caldari Navy Scourge Rocket x1000 Caldari Navy Nova Rocket x1000 Scourge Rage Rocket x1000 Nanite Repair Paste x50 Scourge Javelin Rocket x1000
The basic premise is that you scram kite short range fits (blasters & autocannons), and orbit in close against longer range fits (lasers). Personally, I'd drop a damage rig to close the EM hole in the shields, but since Suitonia is a much better pvper than I am, you may want to try it his way first.
Ammo is the downside, at least for me. Missiles are balanced around being able to match up your damage with their resist hole, so you need to bring a selection of ammo. Not being in the Caldari militia, I found I preferred the Tormentor for logistical reasons.
If you like reading about low sec piracy or faction warfare, you might enjoy my blog.
