Is it just me that thinks bumping in high sec, in it's current state, is a bit intense? Let me explain my toughts:
To my understanding, a Machariel could indefinately bump a freighter to prevent them from warping without any consequences. I understand that it cannot be used as harassement or towards a single player as per CCP rules. But to suicide gank or ransom someone as part of pirate activities: it is allowed. YARR!! Pretty smart way to "walk the line".
The problem I have with that is that it is basically like activating a scram on the freighter, which would be considered a criminal act and CONCORD would intervene. Shouldn't there be some kind of limitation to that?
I am not saying to consider all bumping as criminal actions, but clearly a guy that bumps you till his friends show up, they try to kill you, die, go refit, wait 15min for GCC to drop and then repeat is a bit much.
Don't you think that there should be a timer on the bumping? Therefore, if you have a big enough alpha then you can kill the guy and loot, but you'd have one try or else the timer would run out. But then pilots would alternate who's bumping to prolong the hostage situation.
Or should the Mach pilot be considered a criminal too in this action and get the wrath of CONCORD too when the attack starts? Because, lets face it, he is the most instrumental part of that criminal act. Machariels aren't cheap so it would limit that.
Does it bring all that much to the player experience? Being kept in a system till you pay or log off and then get killed for hours is boring. The stress of the possible gank coming is part of EVE and should stay, but I think it needs to be limited a bit.

At fanfest CCP announced a 3 minute time for bumping was going to be implemented, after which a ship that is being bumped will warp regardless; the timetable for the change has yet to be announced.
Bumping is not the same as activating a scram, it doesn't prevent the target from warping, it prevents it from aligning.
There are ways round it, for example one friend with webs can sling a freighter into warp almost immediately they are applied, which doesn't give a bumper time to apply their technique; if you're already being bumped a friend that is ahead of you and in the direction you are being bumped can provide a warp to point.
Civilised behaviour is knowing that violence is barbaric, but paying other people to do it is business.

Read the sticky on bumping. It's fine. Get on with the game. Adapt or die. |

You could always try to get the mach ganked. They aren't very cheap.

I thought this was true for a very long time, until I petitioned it and the GM refused to say anything other than [bumping is not considered harassment at this time.]
Tl;dr You CAN bump any one person for as long as you like with no intention to ransom or gank them. It's not harassment, just rude. |
