Before anything, I'd like to ask all to please ignore my "account age" as I only played for a month of the game before quitting (due to payment problems) for a year, I recently restarted, so I'm actually around 2-3 months old of player. Also do not take this as a rage note nor as a rant, I have taken the time to vent those out of the system and would like to move forward and simply address the issue at hand.
I was scammed and I lost a ship. This sort of thing happen and is allowed in the game, so while it hurt, it happens.
What did hurt, more than anything else, is the fact that person I traded with was on my "block" list, I know this isn't like other games, where it's "safe" to do trading. I know there are always risks with trading here.
However I do have an issue with someone I blocked being able to send me a trade request, as far as I knew the only thing someone I have on block should be able to trade with me is hot lead sent from our respective cannons, across the void of space, and into the hulls of our respective ships.
So, since blocking DOES allow for someone to still trade with me, what else can a blocked person do to me (aside from destroying my ship in the vacuum of space and displaying my cloned corpse on chat)? |

Block means blocking them from communicating with you, to prevent you from being spammed from by them.
With trading, i have no idea why you would trade with someone you werent talking to, or why you would be trading with someone that you already didnt know or trust. Its the number one thing to avoid when buying or selling.
The thing is, trading should be allowed, even if you are blocked, because, for example, market trading is a form of trading too, and yet we would consider it absurd to have the market not list an item from someone we blocked. Or not show contracts from someone we blocked.
Again, no idea why you would accept a trade request with someone you werent speaking to, but i have no problem with the block function not blocking trade requests. |

I do sort of see your point. Initiating an in-station trade request is a form of communication, and if I'm blocking someone, I should like to exclude them from being able to initiate contact with me directly in any fashion.

Never noticed this before. Seems like a good change to suggest in the little things thread in Players Features and Ideas, here:

Trading scams are a legit form of pvp though, so there should be no automatic protection from that. It's just like shooting at a ship in space. I'd say blocking is only about verbal communication to protect players from verbal abuse and harassment.

I disagree. I block tons of people in Jita. I don't want to see the spam. I do not want to trade with any of these people. Heck, even if they joined my corp I would not wish to trade ships with them as I do not wish to support such behavior or the people who do it in any way. So why should blocking not stop reading as well? This is a feature I would support. |

I can block communication and duel requests , I'm surprised that this doesn't extend to trade too.
Yeah I can see the point here. +1

Then by the same token I shouldn't be able to block duel requests. Consistency counts.

Good point. Anything that just pops up unsolicited, and where you get 'scammed' just because you wanted to click something else but then end up clicking the accept button in that surprise window, should be blockable.
Didn't know this was a problem with station trades, though. I never get unsolicited trade offers. But I did get these duel requests all the time, so I blocked all such requests.

Indeed, blocking someone should include the trade window for obvious reasons.

I don't really disagree that you have a point, however, I am failing to imagine a scenario where I would trade with someone without out first conversing with them. If said trade window opened without having a prior conversation I certainly wouldn't think it was anything but a scam...
