Anyone else experiencing the lovely "Several small updates to backend systems have made New Eden a better place for everyone." ??
Appears they messed with drone aggro or something they will not redbox me no matter what I do.
Send them in to fight and they go one round and then return to idle.
Why wouldn't CCP just tell us what changes they make so we can tell them what parts get messed up ?? |

The bad thing about this is that it's a bug that will be fixed.
It shouldn't be, drone auto aggro (which enables afk ratting) is probably reason number 2 why bounty isk has risen recently , the 1st being CCPs buff to ratting in the from of Carrier's and Super Carrier's fighter squadrons. |

99 little bugs in the code... 99 liiiiiittle buuuuuuugs...
Take one down, patch it around,
127 little bugs in the code!
Also... it is an old fact that drones have notoriously old code that will spaz out, scream bloody murder, and try to throttle a DEV when changed.
You should have been around when drones would auto attack people in your own fleet!
How did you Veterans start?

Jenn aSide, without ratting the ISK generation that keeps PvP flowing would come to a screeching halt.
Anyone using any practice to RMT Isk or other products should be immediately permabanned.
Mining is boring as snot but it's done, to be honest so is ratting, both are integral parts of the economy however and both can be done "semi-afk". Without this ISK ships become a commodity no one would ever want to risk, thus ending the largest activity in the game world.
PvE is not diverse enough to keep people engaged and hence leaves corps with ratting ops and people who run multiple ratters to supply themselves with ships to get blown up.
Then again we could go to a system of people getting paid X amount of isk per month determined by someone else and see what happens :)
My largest complaint is the "we did something that everyone will make things better for everyone" quote, which is a false statement unless we can see what it was they did and determine it for ourselves. |

The affect on drones is clearly a bug, not an intended change. If it was deliberate it would be spelled out in a devblog well before ever hitting a set of patch notes and would be clearly written in the patch notes too.
So hopefully you bug reported it through the F12 menu, and didn't just bring it to the forum only.

Drones aren't the only things that kill npcs. Also auto aggroing is not necessary, see how Carriers are still able to rat even though CCP took away drones?
I use drones from a VNI because they work (in addition to my Machariel), but I recognize that afk ratting is a bad thing for the overall game. CCP would be doing a good thing if they made drones work like regular weapons that you have to be at the keyboard to use, like the did with Fighter Squadrons.
Without afk ratting stuffing easy isk into the game, the isk those of us who do rat would be more valuable and our escalation loot too (fewer escalations), as usual some people are too short sighted to see how something they think helps them is actually screwing them. |

Sorry Jenn, but if drones were to lose auto-targetting, then they would lose many of the reasons that drones are used that don't involve AFKing: salvage drones, drones as defense against Guristas, drones getting the pilot in trouble because her weapon system just went somewhere else when she said go that way!
AFK ratting sucks, but I'd rather not see the baby thrown out with the bath-water.

If someone could give CCP a magic tool to see what is going to get broken by changing a line of could, that'd be great. They'd also become an instant billionaire in the technology sector.

A reliable tool. Tools like that do exist, but they tend to suffer from false-positives. "It might break this" isn't helpful if it's one of a million such things. The other aspect is that tools are limited to what they can see. They don't know the intention of a change, just it's effects, so a change to auto-aggro behaviour probably wouldn't be picked up.
On another note, I can see the concern about drone auto-aggro and AFK ratting, but it's pretty useful for doing stuff like taking out frigates in missions while I'm hammering down the big guys in my battleship. Locking a frigate takes ages, so it's nice that the drones will just move to the next target. Maybe making rats more likely to target drones would be a better solution to AFK ratting. |

Is this a troll? I can't imagine the amount of mental gymnastics you had to do to convince yourself that afk ratting is a selfless service to EVE pvp and that it benefits the economy as a whole lmao. The only type of pvp that would come to a screeching halt if afk ratting was removed would be the ganking of afk ratters.
Do you know what happens when you can no longer print money afk? The money everyone else earned while NOT afk becomes more valuable. |
