I am still so new to the game I squeak but looking to the future in my minds eye I see battles againt both humans and computers.
A question came to mind is if there are any true fleet battles or is everything mostly ganking with 40 to one odds?
Now I understand the idea of a fair fight, you don't try to have one, but the question remains?
Some of the people I have talked to in game say most people will run away and that is understandable people do not want to lose what they spent much time and effort getting.
Just wondering out loud i guess, have a nice day.

To answer your question specifically, yes I have seen fleet battles - I have died in them, and I have survived in them.

We have the fleets, question is do CCP have the nodes to take them??
In preparing for battle I have always found that plans are useless, but planning is indispensable.

We had one a few weeks ago. A large group of MC came into our space. We ganged up. I'd (loosely) estimate there were 100 to 150 total ships.
Initial engagement was close range. Lag was high, but not so bad that it was a slide show. I lost my Dominix but managed to keep my pod, so I flew back to the station and bought a cruiser and fit it out as best I could in the short time I had. Ran back to the engagement, but it had turned into mostly long range combat by that time.
It was my first fleet fight, and indeed, my first consensual PvP engagement, and it was a blast. Props to MC for the good fight. No smack talk by either side to my knowledge; just a good straight up battle.

One time I took my fleet of Barges and went out to a roid belt and engaged the Veldspar there. So yes it exists.
This thread was about carebears right?

I think you forgot to add "and most predominantly I've been lagged out in them."

Yes we still have fleet battles on a fairly regular basis. Engagements usually oppose fleets of size btw 30 and 50 men.

They're pretty lag-free up to about 100 people.
At about 150-200, they're reasonable, but laggy.
Past 200-250, they are unplayable.

Fleet battles are kinda like turn based combat. You warp in, engage, and from there you wait every 5-10 seconds for your screen to refresh to see if you are either destroying or dieing. Thats is if you didn't go pop by the time the grid loaded.

There are not many fleet battles when 'roaming gangs' meet each other, as usually one side will have a disadvantage and will flee. Fleet battles usually happen in the defense of something like a POS or an outpost where the two sides are fighting over something more valuable than their ships.
Yes, they do happen, but they don't happen every day. Huge fleet battles are quite rare.

Fleet battles are probably more even, at times, than most any other kind of encounter in EVE.
If an enemy blob is known to be too big to handle the others just usually melt away. If its at least moderately close in numbers, most pew pews want nothing more than to engage. What will change the outcome of such a fight is the FC and tactics, and disparity between ship and mod quality to a degree...oh and lag, never forget lag.

I've never been involved in a fleet battle in my years in EVE, it's more a 0.0 thing and 0.0 for me is to expensive, dangerous and factional for me to care about, but you know what they say you don't miss what you don't have.

In empire you can't even 10 vs 10. I wonder what 250 vs 250 which happen very often in 0.0 would do.
