For a game with such complex mechanics, a game reserved for only those gamers who's cognitive ability is only rivaled by that of the likes of Einstein himself,(at least that's what most of the playerbase seems to think) there sure is a lot of stupid on these forums.
Now, the ability to block players would cut down on a lot of stupid, but so far I've found no such ability and besides that you could never filter it all with just blocking. So what I propose is this.
CCP implement a type of intelligence test for the forums. Each player wishing to post on the forums would have to take said test on their first attempted post, and then once again every month after that. The test would score them on basic math, reading comprehension and other such things. Their score would be determined by the number of questions they got correct and the amount of time it took them to complete the test.
Now everyone has a score, so what? Well players would then find that they have the ability to limit the scores that could post in their threads. They could choose any range of scores that they want, from the stupidest of stupid, to all the Einsteins, that there seem to be so many of. Left click name, left click "hide post". Failed your own test. Good job.

Reading may or may not help me "look less stupid", but I don't think there is any hope for this thread, or OP.

This thread smells like butthurt. Yes, Jimi, you got some negative feedback on your "Let us grind for SP" thread. In typical EVE-O style, it was delivered with ascerbic commentary, outright disgust and one liners. Don't mistake people mocking you for a lack of intelligence.
After all - none of the one liners suggested what you did

I'm beginning to see the beauty behind your idea.

But that's just the beauty of it! It would go both ways. There would be nothing stopping you from blocking those with excessively high scores! Who posts in your thread is completely up to you. Its win for everybody.
Actually what would probably work better for you is like a hate score. you could just keep excessive amounts of hate out of your threads. Keep all those douche biscuits out until they go take a chill pill |

Obviously you never took a real IQ test. Of course cognitive tests have a right/wrong answer, but reading comprehension? You know how long can papers can be about a single philosophy question, yet two good papers wont end the same ways, but will still be very productive and well constructed, with good argumentations and will probably both get a A+ ? Yet the two guys who wrote them have opposite point of view.. but they respect each others (if they are smart enough).
Besides, he who has terrible cognitive results can be really strong in another domain (art, language, litterature, etc). Ever heard of "Everyone is the dumber for one other guy" |

The American public's reaction to the change was poor and the new cola was a major marketing failure. The subsequent reintroduction of Coke's original formula, re-branded as "Coca-Cola Classic", resulted in a significant gain in sales, leading to speculation that the introduction of the New Coke formula was just a marketing ploy |

Well that's cool... I guess? I mean some very fine points you do make my fine man! But opinions aren't really the topic of this thread, despite what the title may have led you to believe. Its actually meant for the discussion of the culling of the stupid! You know, those sad few who can't even comprehend the opening post of a thread, and hell, those that flatout refuse to even try, before posting.
You know, those who despite everything pointing to the opposite, they could still come into a thread like this and assume its a thread about opinions! Now how thick would you have to be for that, you know? Like surely, none among the geniuses of eve could make such a foolhardy mistake. |

I expected this thread to be about filtering over a "Dislike" button. For obvious reasons that would work counter intuitively because the seething masses would all "Dislike" non-conformists into the ground.
I would like to point out that you might filter out some good people. In my high school there was streaming and a great many classes. One particular student stood out. You just had to speak to them to know that they were pretty vacant and slow, should have been in one of the lower classes, not the top one. However, they must have been studying many hours a night and put a great deal of effort into their work. On subjects you could learn parrot fashion, such as history with dates and events, they excelled, while on the other hand, they were failing or just passing the things that needed some thought, such as mathematics and chemistry. Their compositions had a great deal of thought and care, it just took them longer to get there but they could produce high quality results.

Ah but you see, the very average is just what I want. Those with basic problem solving skills, basic ability to understand the very words before their eyes. This seems to be very few and far between in the eve community though, but dont get me wrong. I have, on a few very rare instances come across a member of the eve community who exhibits the ability to, not just think, but to understand and that's something id like to see more of in the eve community |

Forget it. The average, is randomly posting things to put people down and to try and attack them personally. This is "witty" and "clever" showing what great "prowess" you have. You are just painting yourself as a target to be followed around and "trolled".
Think of how often you see variation on an old meme being used by these same people? They can't think of anything constructive or creative to say, so they go on the offensive, attack everyone before anyone points out their failings. It is a self perpetuating little mess that history will probably try and sweep under the carpet with a touch of embarrassment. The really sad part of it all? A lot of it is done by adults that are meant to be functioning members of society. Ideas and stuff EVE - the game of sand castles, either building them or kicking them down. |
