ok...ive read a lot of topics about blasterboats fittings...and the same thing comes up over and over again. people keep sayin, use ion...no no use elctrons.....no no neutrons are better!
as a fairly new player to the game still (couple of months), i just would like to know wot the main differences between the 3 blasters are!
from lookin at the stats.....the neutrons seem like the best choice as they have best range and best damage modifier, but loads of people say ions or electrons are better.
so anyone who knows the differences between the 3, can u please enlighten me.
thanks in advance for the help
p.s.: im gettin a hyperion..so wot do u think is the best choice for that ship, coz atm...im probably gona fit neutrons coz of the damage modifier.

Electrons: Very fast Refire, Very Low optimal, Low Falloff, Decent Dmg mod. Very easy to fit
Ions: Fast Refire, Low optimal, Somewhat Low Falloff, Good Dmg mod. Decently easy to fit
Neutrons: Decent Refire, Low optimal, Decent Falloff, Great Dmg mod. Can be hard to fit ------------------- My opinions (ie, all of my posting here) are not my corporations. Nor should it be taken as such. |

Thor's correct here. However, the requirements aren't as harsh as say, the 150mm Railguns. ------------------- My opinions (ie, all of my posting here) are not my corporations. Nor should it be taken as such. |

Beat me to it.
Generally, Ions are the best choice if you still want to fit a decent tank, mwd, and most of the times a cap booster on your chosen blastership. Electrons are there when you want a real good tank to it. Neutrons are mainly for pure gank ships with no to little tank.
However, you must never forget about Magnetic Field Stabilizers (mods that increase your hybrid turret's dmg modifier and rate of fire). With a pair of those, a full rack of Ions will easily outdamage a setup with a full rack of Neutrons without any MFS fitted.
With that done, your tracking will still be better and you will deal more DPS (Damage per Second), but your range willl still stay the same. Electrons and MFS work too, but that combo is not that common because people usually fill all their lows with tank modules when using Electrons.

The damage per second (DPS) difference of all three guns isn't as great as you might think. The following is each T2 large blaster loaded with AM L with zero skills applied.
Neutron blaster cannon II = 25.6 DPS Ion blaster cannon II = 24.0 DPS Electron Blaster cannon II = 22.4 DPS
I use all three but I do tend to use electrons more. Fitting requirements allow me to fit a really nice tank on a megathron or hyperion and useing some choise hybrid weapon rigs are possible since the penility is much less to deal with.

il probably run a pair or lars and a 2 magstabs with my hype...coz i want the dps....so u reckon the ions are the best to go with for that setup then?
also....wots the stackin penalty like if i run 2 magstabs and a collider rig(the 10% hybrid damage one)?

From these forums it has been consistantly stated that the stacking penalty is applied as if it was another exclusively damage MFS, so with ur set up youd be getting around 5 percent more damage ------------------------------------- Please do everyone a favor, don't sign your posts....

sure thing. On a Hyperion. Max gunnery skills, Gall BS 5, 4x mag stab IIs and void ammo loaded.
Neutron blacter cannon II = 143.6 DPS Ion Blaster cannon II = 134.6 DPS Electron Blaster Cannon II = 125.6 DPS
Neutron blasters end up doing 14.33121% more DPS. First numbers I gave out the difference was 14.28571%. Unless I screwed up somewhere, and it is possible, the trend holds.
Now in pratice the gap will be slightly smaller as the better tracking of electrons will give a higher number of well aimed and excellent hits and fewer glanceing hits. That's kinda hard to calulate though.
Edit: Looking at the wrong notes ftl!

The first magstab increase damage by 23-ish %, second close to 20%, so electrons with 2 damage mods > neutrons with one or no dmg mod by a nice margin there.
