Pilots;
Members of the Arataka Research Consortium have undertaken a brute force sequencing operation in the Conflux Hive, tripling the total number of sequences fed into any Nexus anomalyGÇÖs code repository.
This operation is the culmination of a long-duration operation undertaken by pilots operating on behalf of the Arataka Research Consortium. Prior to this, eight months of sustained operations by various organizations has resulted in a total of approximately forty sequencing attempts in all hives combined. With this operation, we deployed eighty sequence sets in rapid succession in a single vault in an attempt to prompt changes in the Nexus anomaly in the Conflux complex.
A significant stockpile of Drifter boosters has been collected as a result of these operations, and will be forwarded to analysis teams as part of one of a number of current research projects.
Reconnaissance teams have been assigned to monitor the anomaly for any changes. As always, any pilot wishing to participate in the on-going effort to understand and contain the Drifter threat is welcome to join public operations coordinated via the Neocom channel Consortium Operations.
Lastly IGÇÖd like to take this chance to announce that I have returned to work with the Arataka Research Consortium (-ARC-) after an extended leave of absence due to an unforeseen medical condition. I look forward to working our partner groups once again.
With regards,

... I guess this would be what people were busy with earlier today.
Important question, Ms. Eidos: I'm guessing the doctrine in play was the new ARC armor doctrine, with "Heavy Weasel" support.

The Operation stated is not related to the cancellation of the Drifter hive operations today.
As for thr comment about the new ARC armor doctrine, I am sorry I currently do not have any information related to the doctrine , Or if it was used. |

The cancellation of yesterday's operation was a joint decision by a number of ARC's coordination team and was centered around the desire to make sure all our bases were covered prior to running the new fleet doctrine under the new fleet command and coordination burst system.
Your obviously well-intentioned, but ultimately ill-informed and rather misleading "the sky is falling" outburst about the operation on Tuesday played some part in it. As a reminder to pilots, the "weasel" doctrines provided an unparalleled level of relative safety for the majority of pilots operating against Drifters. Enough, it seems, that some got so used to that relative safety that they forgot what fleets were like prior to the introduction of that doctrine.
Tuesday's operation consisted of a simple, old-style Caracal and Scythe fleet, without any form of command and coordination boosts. The Drifters hitting their mark more often than not was to be expected.
There is some discussion as to when the next operation will occur but nothing has been set in stone.
As to the doctrine in use by the brute force team, ARC has been in possession of some solo/duo/trio doctrines for use when available pilots are few or the desire to work without attracting attention is present. Presumably one of these doctrines was in use, or perhaps one pilot working patiently in a covert-capable frigate or cruiser performed the final part of the operation. I've been on vacation in Intaki for the last week and haven't been present on any of the last week's operations as a result. I will be returning tonight, however, so I assume I will see you all in space or on communications routers soon enough.

A small operational detail, as most of it has been covered by Coordinators Edios and Lagann. The brute force attempt occurred at approximately 0700hrs NEST on YC118.11.15, and monitoring is on-going.

So I'm to blame?
Well-- normally it's kind of bad form to quote yourself, but here's my "sky is falling" post:
Aria Jenneth wrote:So-- um. A heads-up for everyone involved, and particularly those entities using the "Heavy Weasel" doctrine.
Today's operation in the Sentinel Hive was successful, but not without losses. Hikanta seems to have been reinforced; it's now substantially more dangerous, and direct, wrecking hits seem to just tear a Caracal apart.
More to the point, though-- and, we weren't using Heavy Weasels, so, maybe take this with a little skepticism and some testing-- the Drifters didn't miss.
Their doomsdays. They didn't miss, even once. Usually in the past, before the Weasels, it was like 50/50 or 60/40....
We might have a problem.
Might. Skepticism. Testing. 50/50 or 60/40.
Outburst. Really?
Lady Tyrathlion.... I don't know what to say. If this is me talking out of turn, I apologize, but I'm a little unclear on how giving a yellow flag when we lose every single ship a doomsday fires on is alarmism.
I was on those fleets. I haven't forgotten, and I haven't gotten complacent.
I remember: the Drifters sometimes missed. Not nearly all the time, but sometimes. The only place where that happened only very rarely was in the Conflux Hive. Tuesday's operation was in Sentinel.
I highlighted the possible issue because I wanted to be sure others who were using the doctrine got word: the doctrine might have finally been adjusted to, compensated for.
We need to know.
Well, at least we should have an answer in a few days. |

Coordinator Lagann, Ms. Jenneth, I think we're all making mountains of molehills in this case. The situation, such as it was, has been resolved, and I've heard of simulations testing indicating that the armored weasel doctrine is viable.
Our next operation will be 0300hrs NEST YC118.11.26, and we'll be employing a more recent doctrine.
As for the matter at hand, I do hope our monitoring turns something up. This constitutes a significant increase in effort directed at any of the Nexus Anomalies, a result of several hundred hours of flight time by multiple pilots.

Well, if you are going to call them Armored Weasels, just make sure that you credit SERAPH's Drifter Assault Team: Applied Sciences Section for the doctrine.
Seriously, though. Can we stop feeding indexes into the Nexus? We're being used. The gate that was put in that goes right to the Nexus, plus the ending of the locks, plus the drug payout equals us being used for something the Drifters cannot do on their own. No, I cannot explain it; it's just a gut feeling. However, those are usually pretty right.
And Ms. Jenneth: it's called swagger. SERAPH's earned it. You've earned it, too. So, let's stop panicking, buckle down, and get this done.

Always credit where credit's due, Ms. Vea. Just as I'd ask you to please remember that the original weasel-style doctrine was developed over months of ARC fleets. But all of this is just jockeying; I think we're both of mind that this sort of thing is unimportant in the greater scheme of things.
As for the Nexus, I'd say it's worth noting that the majority of the Drifter-style boosters on the market are not from ARC operations, or Ciniel's work, but from the Sisters of EVE directly. Whether we want them to or not, they appear to be trying to sequence the Nexus anomalies. Whatever they find or develop from this work, we aren't likely to hear of it until it's far too late.
I'd rather independent Capsuleers be involved in the work, so that we can be aware of what comes of it, so that we can respond in a timely fashion, instead of waiting for the next Sanctuary whistleblower to go, "Uh. We stepped in another mess with Drifters."

So. This was the first SAKURA Operation (SAKURA I). It's not quite the old style. It takes more finesse and skill on the part of our pilots, but they were all up to the task. Given the pulsar effect on our ships and the changes to the bursts, more intricate flying was required to successfully engage and destroy Drifters with no losses. I am sure that Morwen will give ARC a full run down. If there are lingering questions, I would be happy to help answer them. However, I would rather not answer them in this forum.
Secondly, we did notice some sort of transmission anomaly with the Nexus. As science falls firmly in the "someone else's problem" category for SERAPH, I will make sure that Priano-haani gets the data she needs to start investigating. SERAPH is not in the science doing business. We're in the Drifter killing business. And business is a boomin'.
In short: my swagger is unaffected; all my people made it home alive; and I don't have to eat humble pie in front of Aria. All in all, a good day.

Thank you for your magnamity, Alizabeth! Fortunately, though, between the ARC personnel and independent pilots who've joined you on your operations, we've already received word of the apparent comms chatter.
My assumption is this. As this chatter appears to be fleet communications, but there is neither fleet nor hive present at a Hive Nexus, it is either a sensor echo resulting from Aura's efforts to parse the effects of the anomaly, or else an echo originating from the Empires' strikes against known space Hives. Given that the Hives in known space are always accompanied by a single hemisphere anomaly, and clearly we've both seen that the Hives in Drifter systems remain perfectly intact and present, my personal theory is this:
What if the Nexuses aren't gates in the standard point-to-point sense, but waypoints? What if they serve to transport something from point A to C, with the Nexus serving as B?
Alternatively, what if the Nexuses are all in fact interconnected? Then, they need not be transit points for Drifter Hives (which still seems somewhat ridiculous!), but the presence of their nexuses alone allows for echo, simply by the signal being dispersed among various points.
This still raises the question of where these Hives originate from. At the very least, I believe we can consider this confirmation that the Drifters' materiel reserve is growing, and that the Hives we strike are indeed outlying fortifications, as we've suspected from the outset.
(and Maker, at this rate, you're all going to make me wish we'd bothered to track Drifter kills over our operations.)

Making sure you knew was something along the lines of: "Morwen, tell Makoto about this."
With regards to Drifter kills, that's something even I don't keep track of much. SERAPH could start, but we don't have a solid record, just a vague idea.
As far as the hives being outlying fortifications, I agree. If the Battle of Sazre showed us anything, it was that the Drifter's war making capability is not significantly diminished. The k-space hives and their attack on the empire navies proved this beyond a doubt. Until we are able to get to their industrial facilities, we're just going to be holding the line.
