Just out of curiosity, is it possible? Has anyone had any success getting a deleted character back? If so, what would be the best petition category to file it under? |

Your given two chances to cancel the deletion. If you went ahead and deleated your character...well guess what noob...

Thanks for your reply, but it doesn't answer my question, does it? |

Completely deleted Characters are just that, deleted and can not be restored. If they are still in the processing queue, you can get them out by logging into them.

The reason why I'm asking is, I'm playing one of my older characters on SiSi and figured that it would be nice to have him back. Transferring him back to Tranq seems like a rather simple procedure for me, but if it's not possible that's ok too, really.

pff.. If you ever created an alt and sent it to the processing queue you can still look this character up ingame, with corp history intact (just checked with an alt I sent to the processing queue two years ago). I think devs are just doing a lazy delete when they remove characters from the game.
Considering that all your items are transfered to your corp after being sent to the processing queue I definitively think it's fully possible to ressurect a processed character.

One of the main reasons they have a downtime must be to make backups, so in theory/technically it is very much possible, but the question is, will CCP restore it?

No they wont restore it ... if an account had been hacked and the chars mallicously deleted then you may get it back - but that would be the only case .
Just train more skills on your main or rebuild your alt in a slightly different fashion

I don't think the restoration of a toon is that simple, All the information is held in a database and you can't just restore several rows in a table which may have been updated at different times. When an account is hacked I presume the admins enter the data from a backup and this will probably be a manual process and very time consuming.
Pretty much in the same way you can't change the name on a toon.
The cost would be prohibative, especially if lots of people made the request.

It's possible to change name on a toon, CCP does it all the time.
Also, I think you're overcomplicating things when you think about restoring several rows in a database table. I'd guess a simplified use case of removing a character from an account involves the follwoing steps - removing referenced character userID from login account - take all items from user and put in the corp assets
Edit:
So to restore a character I think usecase would simply be to - Free up a slot on your account - Add user characterID to account
I also Imagine this is how character transfer works :)

Good advice!
Remember CCP are humans also, I'm sure if there is a good story to why a character was reprocessed and $$$ is involved you can probably revive an old character. It never hurts to try:)

You are given two warnings and up to 12 hours cooldown i think! :o/ CCP wont be running about after you if you regret killing a character, and it's impossible to do by accident. If your hacked/compromised/are a security-noob and the hacker deletes you, then they can get your account back.
Also never let mates play with your online game accounts when they come round, I lost my Monk in guild wars to that, thousands and thousands of ecto, all armour sets, best and rarest damn monk weapons in the game, all gone 'cos of a simple slip up >_<.

Moving character data to, say, Quickfit, is a matter of a 10 seconds copy&paste from the "My Character" XML. Like I said, he's still in mint condition on SiSi so I don't think it's that great a deal. Of course I don't expect to have any assets moved, that would be stupid, but the skillpoints would come in handy.
I haven't been hacked or anything, it's just that 3 character slots are a bit limiting for me sometimes. (No lecture about alts please) |

Our policy is not to restore deleted characters, maybe with the exception of hacked accounts.

It is sort of misleading though however this email that was sent to me. That is titled "Fly with a 5 day pass revive your character "Greetings Charactername" and gives me the name of the character that i deleted. Now with my main character gone to the liquid soup of biological matter, i was considerering reactivating since the ad seems too good to be true. But since it had a picture of my deleted character as well i though it be allright. unfortunatly it seems to have the "rejoin with all your...skills... as you left it" seems to be the part that is the limiting factor since i left it empty. The question is it does almost seem like they were offering my character, How much $$$ are we talking about to resurrect a character completely? I might just do it. Cheers.

Its just another record in the database. CCP can restore them if they wished but I'm sure its policy because ppl would bug them to death over it.

Not done. You'd also have to somehow recover deleted entries from the skill table. And reclaim deleted items or those sent to corp impound and transfered to other corpies. Implants, jump clones, and NPC standings are probably each in their own table. If you want to recover EVE-mail then its yet another table.
Please actually think about this in terms of database design for a few minutes.

Maybe? Not to sound like a jerk, but as someone whose had his account hacked with this game (and none other, I might add), if someone somehow got my password through a lapse in CCP security I expect more than just a maybe. Anything less, and I'd be on the first boat over to Iceland to eat your lunch only to replace it with a "Maybe you should have brought a second lunch." note...

In any kind of 'modern' relational database, and the data isn't really deleted (and it is not as you can look them up in game), it is easy as hell.

CCP can, and have, restored deleted characters.
Have to have a damn good reason for it though, generally.

When a character is biomassed, it's not really removed from the game. It's transferred to the corporation Doomheim where they will stay until reinstated. There are some more funky things done with them pertaining to character names, but that's about it.
So yes, characters can and have returned from the grave.
You take what is offered. And that must sometimes be enough. |

Asking to transfer a character that has trained on the test center is the dumbest thought I have head in my 25 years.
Sure lets transfer a character that can get expensive skills/or isk without risk to train expensive skills. You do see the problem with this right?
