Heyo!
Bought a plex and I plan on giving away free ships to alphas in a starter system, but I need a bit of help! I'm generally good on fitting ships, but what do you thing would be the best use of a ship for an alpha?
I was thinking of making up some fitted PvP oriented frigates and PvE fitted dessies for each race (depending on who won it), whats your thoughts on those? Or should I setup a single ship as a multirole? (Or stick with two to keep roles separate)
(Also Minmatar and Amarr fitting advice would be greatly appreciated, as I prefer Caldari and Gallente)
Thanks for any advice!

I also have been doing this in Couster, i went with a dual rep PvP incursus (cap boosted) as a way of demonstrating the idea of fitting to a hulls bonus. Which rookie system are you planning on operating out of?

They are getting TONS of very good frigates during the Career Agent tutorials. Maybe it would be better to buy some navy frigates and do a small competition involving learning something? :) |

Thinking of Todaki (My home system)
For Caldari like my preferred brawling merlin with anc shield boosters.

The point isn't the free hull, it's the fact it was fit by someone who knows roughly what they're doing. The cheapy frigs can (if built well) demonstrate the power of good fitting over blingy parts, teach rough fitting strategy like kinds of tanking setup and damage application.
It's nice to run a competition and give away a couple of shiny ships, but how many new players actually learn anything from that aside from how bad it feels to lose a 30mil frigate to a silly mistake?

That was my idea, maybe give away a couple of fac frigs, then the rest cheaper t1 stuffs.

I think it may be better to give the newbies cheaper and better affordable ships- that way they could easily replace them after a loss and a loss wouldn't hurt that much.
Since I only do Minmatar and Amarr stuff, how about the good old Wensley Memorial Rifter:
3x 150 mm AC I Rocket Launcher I
Warp Scrambler I Stasis Webifier I Afterbruner I
Small Armor Repairer I DCU I 200 mm Plate
Damage Rig RoF Rig
With all meta 0, it's performance isn't exactly something to write home about , but it might still be much better than most of the fits a newbie may come up with.
I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it.

Hey, this is an awesome plan :)
Personally I think pvp fit frigates would be the way to go cuz the official npe is all based around pve and with this you could be introducing all the new bros to an aspect of the game that isn't really presented by the tutorials.
For fitting ideas Gorski Car has done a really good series on alpha fittings for all the races ( barring amarr which I'm sure he'll get round to):
http://crossingzebras.com/alpha-clone-fits-part-i-minmatar/
http://crossingzebras.com/alpha-clone-fits-part-ii-caldari/
http://crossingzebras.com/alpha-clone-fits-part-iii-gallente/
and Eve Pro Guides has also done a series on alpha fittings over on youtube:

Fits depend on what you're fighting, what you're fighting depends on where you are. In low sec AB fits make good sense in 0.0 you're better off with a MWD fit. Fits for newbies should probably have the least active modules possible because they're already being overloaded with information. Because of that the rocket Kestrel is probably the easiest ship to use while also being a powerhouse (scram kiting Kestrel is quite good). Other than the obvious slashers, Atrons and Executioners.
Again fit depends on location so not much point in giving some, it's probably best that if you give someone a ship/fit you also send him an evemail with the specifics of that ship and how it should be used. Also helps them to stay in contact if they have any questions. |

Just for the record, I think it speaks to the quality of the EVE community that there are people that are willing to take a break from their normal day-to-day in EVE to help newbros out and give **** away in an effort to get them to enjoy the game and/or stay for a while. |

Isnt there also some way to make a written note as a trade-able item?

Welp, I settled on 3 prize packages, a brawling Merlin or a kiting Kestrel. Then the other one is that I'll have a couple of brawling Hookbills to give out. Each ship has a basic guide that I'll mail to the receiver and will give a couple of mil to insure it. But for the hookbills I want to do like a special trivia to win those! Cant think of too many questions rn, but feel free to message me if you think you have a trivia question worth using!
I'll probably give away a couple of bundles tonight if I have time, but the main even will be 11/25 at 19:00 EvE time in Kisogo! I'll advertise it closer in advance in NCQ&A

So, Netan, after a few days...how did this whole thing turn out for you?
My personal experience: at least in Minmatar territory, nobody wanted free ships. Those Newbies in Malukker didn't even talk at all, complete silence in local despite 90 pilots in the system. Maybe they thought it would be a scam? Anyway, I put a bunch of T1 fitted Rifters on contract in Malukker for the minimum required price (1000 ISK, apparently you cannot make public contracts for free, TIL) so if anyone here reads this, just go and grab them, I'm not planning on making an other trip and getting them back.
Our Amarrian rookies seem far more accessible and talkative, I'll probably do a few more trips for them...

Did a giveaway yesterday, like you, 90 in system and no one was talking and was getting rejected convos (One guy blocked me, lol) but once a couple of them nibbled, I had a bunch of them asking for it. Even made a couple of friends and helped one guy properly look for a corp that wasnt gonna scam him. I think its a combination of newbies taking in so much that they kinda ignore chat (I know i did when i started) and possibly afraid of scam stories. But I also teach them how to know what a contract scam looks like too, so I think its an overall success!

So, last update on this project: The almost-free Newbro Rifter contracts I put out all got accepted over night. Almost all of them by the same, 5 year old character who probably disassembled them and sold the parts for profit.. So, lesson learned here. That thing's just not working. If you want to help newbros, it's probably best just to supply their local markets with ships and modules and let them figure out the fittings themselves. Then again, being charitable and altruistic in this game was a completely new experience for me. Not an important or necessary or a pleasant experience, but at least a new one.

IMHO newbees need some very well tanked ships to start at least seeing what is going on instead of just pop in few seconds. Medium shild merlins, 400 mm armor plate tristans, punishers etc... Huge passive tank over dps so they will start learning about range management instead of capacitor / active tank cycles management (will be learned later on).
It is extremly frustrating to be killed not having time even to scratch the opponent. To lose ship when your enemy was in half armor is something very different from loosing the ship when your opponent is still in full shield.
