Hi,
The eve client, on one of my macines won't show the logon screen. The splash screen comes up, then the client minimizes and just sits there. The client goes into a "not responding" state for a little while, but soon returns to running, but remains minimized on the task bar. The logon screen never comes up.
This worked fine last night, I don't know of anything that has changed. So far I have tried clearing cache, reinstall of eve, updating vid and sound drivers - so far, nothing has worked.
Any ideas?
thanks. -AS |

Are u using vista by any chance? A mate has just done the auto update and is having a very similar problem. If it is vista related, if anyone has a solution it would be much appreciated.

Edited by: Avid Amari on 05/04/2007 13:33:08 I have Vista, no problems here, atleasn not of graphics nature that is. i had disconnects and such, but only due to my router and torrent usage.
Try little program called EVE launcher. It can clear your cache and reset the settings, it may help.

After reviewing what I did last night its occured to me that Vista had an automatic update last night. The update is here:
Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.17.2520.1)
Installation date: 19/04/2007 19:40
Seems that this update has somehow stopped eve from running. Now I looked into uninstalling this update but it says once its installed it cannot be removed. Anyone got any ideas? Should I get in touch with CCP or Microsoft for this one? If anyone has any ideas please le tme know.

The same happened to me last night after Windows defender update on Vista. The splash screen appears, then disappears after a long pause. exefile.exe is running in task manager, but the logon screen never appears....

Right I just tried a few things...
Firstly I switched off windows defender and rebooted....didn't work.
Then I decided to do a system restore prior to the update which was also unsuccessful. The update hasn't been removed.
See below for the update info:
Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.17.2520.1)
Install this update to revise the definition files used to detect spyware and other potentially unwanted software. Once you have installed this item, it cannot be removed.
Anyone got any ideas?

Edited by: Subatoi on 20/04/2007 20:49:46 I had the same problem.
I did a right click on the EVE program icon on the desktop and selected "Run as Administrator"
It worked for me.
Good luck to you.

"run as administrator" worked for me too. As administrator, I lost all my settings, but at least I got into the game. Thanks.

No longer seems necessary to "run as administrator". Bizarre.

You can try also the compatibility mode "XP SP2" to see if it helps (in the property page of Eve). Regards,

I found an XP fix. in msconfig (run - type in MSconfig) use selective startup and only run MS services and this got it too work for me. I am currently narrowing down witch of the non ms programs is causing this but i think it may be Avast due to it being to only thing thats updated since me shutting off last night and turning on this morning.

Same issue with one of my computers also.
My Dell laptop running Vista a few days ago wouldn't display the login screen after the splash. I tried to re-install and a system restore. No results. I did set to run as Admin and that finally worked.
My XP machine does not have this issue.
In one of the earlier posts someone mentions running Avast anti-virus. I am running this on my Vista machine but not on XP machine. Not sure if it means anything.

Edited by: Jaedan Chantes on 24/04/2007 14:05:01 I'm on a Vista PC and this is happening as well...I tried running as adminstrator, but still didn't work. However, this only happened after the most recent EVE patch.
10min ago, the login screen was up. EVE told me to download the latest patch, and now the login screen is black...

I sent in a petition and all I got was a "Vista isn't supported" line w/ a bunch of different things I could try (that don't necessarily pertain to my problem).
I tried them - turning DEP for EVE off, editing something in the EVE prefs.ini - but nothing different happened.
I booted into XP this time, and it works. Perhaps an XP user with the problem can send a petition and tell us what CCP is saying to do...

I too am experiencing the problem.
Now, forgive my cander, but I am VERY displeased. I've got a very important skill I should be learning now.
I'm running XP, I'm an administrator, any other solutions?

I figured out what mine was. The generic windows driver was installed for my graphics card. After I installed the correct video driver it worked fine.

Edited by: Ryoji Tanakama on 01/05/2007 12:19:02 I was getting a problem where the splash screen would fire up, vanish and the login screen never appear. Clear out your cache folder - fixed it for me.
This happened a couple of times on my Vista client.

I just posted about this in another thread. Unfortunately I uninstalled Eve and tried to a fresh install. Now I'm getting error messages after executing eve setup. It's like the client download is bugged (except that I was able to do a complete install on my XP work machine). Stupid Vista. Help!
