I am not 100% sure this belongs here but I'll ask. Are there any foreign language tutors out there? I know French but lack of usage has let things slip. I am looking to pick up German or Russian though I am more familiar with German and Russian would be from scratch.
I was wondering if this was already a thing here, or possible something people could gain interest in? Cause who doesn't want to talk about theoretical physics in a new language and shoot space pirates at the same time?

Russian is slavic language and is completely different. Even letters are different. Pick German. You only have to know two words in russian anyway: "cyka blyat".

As an Englishman living in Germany and still struggling, I'd suggest watching your favourite film with German subtitles on. They may not be perfect, but they are a nice simple place to start. There's also a German speaking in-game channel you could ask in, though don't count on a warm welcome.

I do the same with french films ( but they are usually too depressing). I understand that many of the people from foreign countries just want to play around. Though I am in the science industry and Because this game tends to attract the nerds ( I am here also so i can't judge). It would be nice to have an avenue to coordinate non sensitive meetings and info sharing between countries.

I think the best way to learn a language is by being forced to use it for actual communication with real people. I learned Japan and a Micronesian language that way. But with Japanese, I supplemented the live practice with daily books study. The book study really helped with getting the basic structure of the language down. Of course, I was living in Japan and Micronesia, so the opportunity for live practice was always there.
If you don't live in the target-language country, then maybe you could find a language exchange partner. I did that too. The rules were we'd speak only in one language for an hour, then only in the other language for an hour. So we were teaching each other our native languages. I've seen Meetup groups for people learning English, maybe you could form a group in your town for German or Russian language exchange.
