So I just converted to Omega for this month at least. However I have some questions about what goals to go for. I'm currently doing factional warfare and such and I wonder if tactical destroyers are a good idea? I'm thinking about training the skills but it will take a long time, so I have to know if it is a worthwhile goal or not. |

Tactical destroyers are great for PVP, but they are restricted in the complexes in which they can enter in FW. I believe they can only get into Medium and larger.
I would go towards a T2 frigate first for FW, with T2 guns and T2 resists. From there, more onto getting better with cruiser skills, and get into some navy cruisers - those are a blast.

T3ds are pretty great. They took a bit of a beating a couple weeks ago, so now they rely more heavily on switching roles mid-fight. There are a lot of roles in all fleet/gang sizes filled by ships in the dessie-down line. SP here is not wasted. Plus, t3ds help take some of the pain out of training into interdictors.
T3ds are good. Go for it. |

Thanks to both. As for where can the destroyers enter they can start from small plexes, they are only restricted to novice plexes. I'll try to get into navy cruisers then as well. |

Keep in mind that the more advanced your ship, the higher your support and weapon skills have to be, otherwise your experience will consist of just losing more expensive ships. It takes 3 squares in the support skills to unlock T2 defenses, so that's pretty fast, but T2 weapons can take weeks / month. And weapon quality tends to matter in PVP.
There are multiple things you have to "grow" at the same time: you can unlock more ships, but also you need to keep up with the support and weapon skills for them, and also your ability to make ISK and afford to lose these more expensive ships, and finally in certain cases like FW or agent missions, your rank/standings with the NPC's. |

This.
I really want to hit Large Energy Turrets V. But first I needed to train Advanced Planetology III and IV so that my income can keep up with the more expensive ships.

Interesting points, is loyalty grind at plexes enough to make the isk necessary to maintain something like this?
Also, for a Hecate for example, what weapons and support stuff should I start training? Hybrid turrets and armor? |

Looking at the Hecate stats, I'd guess T2 small hybrids (blasters, railguns), excellent probing skills, and very good support skills: Armor, Navigation (for MWD), Targeting, Engineering (power grid to fit advanced gear), and electronic warfare - weapon disruption/remote sensor dampening.
You'll also need decent rigging skills, and definitely Thermodynamics and the Nanite skills so you can overheat your guns and modules for maximum PVP punch. |

All the ships are good, t3 dessie among them. What you need to decide is if the playstyle of the ship fits your playstyle. You may feel like you'd have a more fun time in a frigate or pirate cruiser.

To learn this game you need to loose some ships so most people agree the lessons are far better learned in cheap ships.
Like has already been stated you need better support skills for the more expensive ships. T2 ships for example are much tighter on fitting room thus harder to fit with lower skill points. Also the bigger the turret or the faster the ship that you are flying the more that skills which improve range or tracking matter.
For those reason and more that I didn't bother to get into here I suggest training up the cheap ships and support skills for the ships that you are flying now. Stay in cheap ships until you learn the game. At the point that you are ready to "commit" to training into a T3 you should have a much better idea of how if would affect your playstyle and if you want to do it.
A simpler but more crass way of saying this would be to say that if you have to ask then you probably should not be worrying about it.
TL;dr You've got plenty of things to train for now. There is no need for you to be worrying about what you might be flying in the future when you could be training what you are flying right now. |
