OK, I am in low sec and warp to an ice belt in a combat ship to maybe clear the belt and there are no rats there......OK cool, go back to station and get in a mining ship and go back to the same belt.....no-one there and then start mining.
20 seconds after start mining then a bunch of rats turn up and as I'm in my Prospect then have to bail to the station.....and get my combat ship to go clear the belt again. Get to the belt in my combat ship and the rats have disappeared, even if I hang there for a minute or two they don't show back up.
So, go back to get my mining ship and go back to the belt to mine and the rats turn up again 20-30 second after I start mining....rinse and repeat.
Very annoying tbh CCP.
May I be pertinent to suggest that if rats turn up in a belt they should stay there for a while. Is that asking too much?
Yes, many will say what's the problem, miners should have a hard time etc......but this sucks |

This situation just compounds the issue.

use a rorqual it has 7 minute invulnerability so the rats will get bored and warp out so you can continue making isk, thats really the only solution, what system is it so we can tailor a fit for the specific rat damage etc etc

1. I don't think a prospect can mine ice. 2. the rats in low-sec belts are at most normal cruisers, so if orbiting with AB and tanked and fitted with combat drones, a venture/prospect/endurance should have no issue to deal with them. |

1. Prospect can mine ice
2. Prospect has no defence really other than cloak and disappear or bail asap
3. The only viable way to solo mine in low sec is a Prospector you live there and your corp is in control in the area etc.
4. Prospect has no defence so have to bail since they nerfed the drone bay
5. If you want to use a Skiff or a Procurer...well, good luck with that. Low sec is not about tank etc. it's about not getting caught in the first place
6. I was talking about a solo effort...not a fleet with an orca or Rorq etc. with a def ship or two.

Hey, this is going to sound like a really crazy idea. But hey. Why don't you take a ship which is capable of mining the Ice and killing the rats? Crazy idea I know. But it might just work.
Also, Prospect? Ice mining? Why aren't you using an Endurance, or Procurer, or a Skiff? Prospect does not have the yield bonuses for ice mining. |

I would argue that the Endurance is not much different. It doesn't have CovOps Cloak. But it has no speed penalties with a conventional cloak. Which allows you to slip away on grid. Lowsec has no bubbles or dictors, so warping uncloaked is not at all dangerous.

I use an endurance in low sec without any issues. It can mwd+cloak perfectly well to get around and has more than enough damage to deal with rats. That said I usually just tank the rats by orbiting a 'roid (afterburner not required most of the time).
However, have you tried putting a single ice mining laser on your combat ship? Don't know if it's the mining that triggers a spawn but it does seem to get attention. Once you've had a spawn it takes a while to see another one (can't remember if I've had a second spawn without a warp out first). |

Prospect or Endurance?
If Endurance, just use light drones to kill the frigates/destroyers and then sig/speed tank everything else.
You shouldn't have to warp out for rats. Kill the smaller ones and the bigger ones won't be able to hit you.

cheers Go with an Endurance.
Can't warp cloaked but you get no speed loss from a cloak so you can align cloaked and then decloak and instantly warp.
Better for mining ice than a Prospect and it has a drone bay.

So you choose to use a ship that's obviously meant to run & hide and then complain about how you can't hang with npc? You can mine just fine in low sec with a procurer if you choose to do/fit it right. Or just use the endurance. |

This is what one of my toons was using to ninja ice mine in lowsec and null npc, of course I have something nasty waiting nearby for players, but in affect it can deal with low sec rats easily. The probe launcher is because I often use WH's to move around.

Sounds like the rats are getting smarter and learning to go after weaker ships while avoiding the combat-capable ones.
If I were a rat and saw you warp off in your mining ship, why should I stick around long enough for you to come back in a ship that can kill me? |

You have three options:
1: Use a ship that can handle the belt rats. Mining ships aside from expedition frigs are designed specifically to be tanky and carry enough drone DPS to defend themselves from rats. (Or rather, the rats are generally designed to be weak enough mining ships can kill them while mining) You're in losec. If you mine aligned to something you can fairly easily bounce if someone sketchy shows up in local. We have people in corp that mine in losec in cheap 20 mil t1 barges and have no problem handling rats and keeping safe from hostile players, and we don't control the systems they mine in or even make much effort to remain particularly close by.
2: Get friends. EVE is not a solo game, and expecting to solve all of your problems by simply reshipping in not a sustainable long term strategy. There's plenty to do in losec for a friend in a combat vessel besides watching you mine, including ratting the other belts, doing combat anoms, killing people who want to **** with you, generally being a discouraging +1 in local and he'd be one short warp away from clearing out your rats occasionally.
3: Use the ship for what it is designed for. Expedition frigs aren't designed to clear whole belts worth of stuff. They're designed to warp fast and mount cloaks or probe scanners so they can get around quickly to find and ninja mine only the best stuff. If you're trying to mine out a whole belt in an expedition frig you are using the ship wrong. You should be flying around, hoovering up the most valuable stuff, and bouncing when it gets too hot to quickly find more valuable stuff, then using that amazing mobility to get your mighly valuable but small ore/gas/ice haul back to a safe place. You know, taking an expedition and not camping one system. |
