Newbro here just wanted to share my experience.
I was trying my hand at the starter missions and thougth the gas mining part was pretty neat. So i researched, trained and fitted a basic gas mining ship. I spent half the day painfully learning how to scan.
Before too long I had found my first wormhole and made a tough choice of whether or not to enter. I jumped right in.
My client crashed- (crappy laptop)
I logged back in as fast as I could.......to find myself in a capsule.
I was a bit frustrated at first but wrote it off to learning. Fitted another ship and headed back. As I was undocking, my wallet flashed.
5 mil was donated by the guy who killed me with a tag that said "wormholes are dangerous,"
We private chatted for a bit and I dove right back down the wormhole and proceeded to learn how to find a safe spot.
So many other games I have played are a ton worse in the player base, so a big thank you to each and every oldbro and new. Nice job.

Welcome to the game!
It's a game, focused on PVP fighting, so we like to help newbies learn the game, and learn that PVP is fun, and losing ships isn't the end of the world.
You have a very good attitude about playing; continue this way and people will continue to help you out and be nice. |

The fact you think there's no reason to help someone other than to boost your own ego says more about you than it does about us..

It really depends how many people you're killing.

I gave that amount of money the other day to a new player who claimed to be a Nigirian Space Prince and send me a mail with a business proposal. Not sure about it, might have been a scam. So what are the community's experience with Nigirian Space Princes in general? Are they to be trusted?
I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it.
Yes, I do feel bad about it.

I think just about everyone received that mail, myself included.
I was tempted to give him a little ISK just for the laugh it gave me, but then I remembered that my true form is Scrooge McDuck.

The EVE Online community is indeed one of the best around, but like any other, it has its bad apples. There are a few in this very thread.

EVE is deep. People kill you and then reimburse you to replace your ship. Offer you advice. Take you under their wins and show you how to PVP. You roam together and get a few kills, nice rush, a few more private convoes, and suddenly you are in a chat channel with all the big boys you've been running away from in the local...
It turnsout everyone's cool, and then you are invited to join a corp. And things just take off from there. You are flying together with your corp mates every night, cracking jokes on voice comms, doing silly things, then somone in your corp proposes a grand vision - we're gonna move to null, ha? impossible, but plans are put into work, and somehow, a noob, who just happened to find the right group of guys to hang with, end up in null. Your corp turns into an alliance, and suddenly things start to snowball. You guys are winning sov left and right, your member count is in thousands, now you are no longer a noob, you are FCing every night, winning, and now you know the game inside out, you got a few trillions in your wallet, you and your buddies pull your ISK together for the alliance SRP to encourage the new bros in your allince to participate more in fleet ops without pressure, you invest in building and anchoring keepstars together, it's incredible
and then you get a ping one night. Your friend, the one that gave you that 5m ISK reimbursement to get you started, the one who took you under the wings to show how things are done, the one who brought you into the corp - apparently he ran with all your alliance's assets & ISK. Your alliance is broke now. He ran with trillions it's been said, and the SRP fund has been cleared out. You are in disbelief, and then you get an eve mail,
"Black Picard,
Hey man, by now you should know that I ran with all the assets and the money. It took me long time waiting for this moment, but now I've finally done it. I've groomed you for years and you turned out alright. Don't take it personally, it's just business.
ta-da!"
Then now you are back to zero. With no assets. alliance disbanded. Everything taken away. You are raging, you have to go kill something. This cannot be right.
So you camp a WH entrance, and you see a venture coming in - boom. You kill him. And then send him 5m ISK reimbursement with a nice eve mail. :D
Well, there are certainly amazing people in EVE, but trust no one. ;)
Cheers Love! The cavalry's here!

When you use the "approachGÇ¥ command on a gas cloud you will stop at the edge of the cloud. Close enough to start gas huffing, but you will lose contact to the cloud when you give the GÇ£orbitGÇ¥ command to stay in motion. But you can enter the cloud by manually flying inside. Then you drop one unit of gas to create a can and orbit it at 1500-2500 meters while huffing gas. Makes you harder to alpha because you will always be in motion while huffing. If you have an Afterburner keep it running, but donGÇÖt use Micro Warp Drives while huffing because they make your signature bigger.
You can scan for more/better gas sides while huffing the first one. I start once I found C50 gas or better and switch as soon as I find high value gas. (But even a venture full with nothing but C50 gas will still get you around 15 Million ISK.) Look out for shattered WHs, those are you best chance to ninja huff C320 and C540 gas. If you find relic sides in your venture bookmark them and come back in a cheap explorer frig. Always worth it.

Thanks for all the replies, and the encouragement. I went back out last night, found another hole and went in but this time it was different. I don't think I quite got the mechanics of setting the safe spot right, and was hunted down really quick. Death was swift, and for a brief moment I was qq rage. Peace followed.
Back at it, but this time I asked questions immediately. I had no clue about dscan, and another lesson was given.
There are so many things to learn, and now I look forward to the full experience. Just hard to understand that thee ships are merely tools, and can and should be used at the cost of skill and experience.'
dscan......
i now buy in bulk at Jita until I get better at this, but in my dreams I hear the call of distant wh sigs, so back to Jita I go.
Thanks!

Happy to see you keep at it :) Despite some talking about 'toxic' community, you will find that in EVE PVP, when you are new, hardly anyone will talk smack in game and rile you up saying 'noob' after a fight, which actually you see a lot in other games when you really are a noob and just getting hang of the game, which can be discouraging. It's only when you become an old pilot where the smack n ridiculing starts when you fail, so enjoy your early days. ;) (i.e. As a 2009 toon, if I fail fit or make fail mistake n die I probably get laughed at a lot and will be on the receiving end of banter/smack/maybe even abuse lol. When you fail and die in a ball of fire, people will try to help you and teach you. Consider this your lucky period in your EVE career heh)

That would have been a great time to convo or eve-mail the person with something like:
"Wow! You are truly awesome. You found me so quick! Was I doing something to make it easy? Any tips to make it harder for you and others next time? I'm still getting my space-legs, and trying to figure out this wondrous wormhole space. Well thanks for reading this far, and maybe one day I'll "catch YOU later" " |
