I've seen countless threads on these forums, where people post on threads just out of pure malice to lash out at the op or generally post into threads without any real content. We need to get some sort of point system in place and more strict moderation.
Forum mods should delete each non-constructive/content post they see and each time they do that, it would ad a negative point to the system for that poster. Get 4 points in a day = you are blocked from posting for 24 hours. If it happens again - 7 days and so forth.
This would clean up the forums a lot and leave room for more meaningful discussion and comments. This would also make life easier for the forum mods. |

kludgy workaround. the system already has mods free to warn people. add up too many warnings and they will ban you from forum for a while, or permenant, depending.
and
Quote: Forum mods should delete each non-constructive/content post they see
does not really go with
Quote: This would also make life easier for the forum mods.
the current simple standard and nearly non-opressive rules are good. complex scorekeeping and fuzzy definitions of ideas like "constructive" are less good.

Every forum that has integrated the point system has only increase their trolls or malicious posts as you call them Getting that low rep becomes a status symbol As for the banning and temporary banning stuff that is not likely to happen for many reasons that I shall not discuss...
Most importantly It would cause a problem with alts and such (the point system and the bannings idea)

If you don't like it , go post on WoW forums
Sure , forum moderation isn't very strict , but this is a very jaded community we're talking about - and the posting masses like cheap snide remarks. That said , it's not so hard to get positive feedback - though it may be only from a fraction of the population , while another is busy flaming you.

If you see a post which you think breaks any forum rules we are only a email away @ [email protected] and we do investigate every email thats sent to us. But we are only a small volenteer team so sometimes it takes us a little time to get around to them.
But one of the things i like about our forums is the amount of different types of posts we get, and the pasion of some of our posters. - Thanks Hutch. ____

A point system. . .
yeah ummm not gonna happen. Soon any logic argument is thrown out because some one is -7 or some other BS, being in X corp or alliance gets you enough grief when posting as it is

Forum needs a PVP system.
Beneath each person's name should have an option to Shoot or Repair. Shooting subtract a point, Repairing adds one. Essentially a self-moderating system, it lets users specify tolerances for what level of points will keep a post visible (see Slashdot for an example).
If you really want to get fancy, give say 25 points of shields, 25 points of armor, and 15 points of hull. :p

Well, tbh, since all here are (or should...) be more or less grown ups, what kind of major malfunction makes ppl write 'ibtl', 'Look mum, im in a bob-thread', 'first!!eleven', 'posting in an epic thread' and other BS like that without posting any substance at all, thats what Id like to know.
A good read in the caod-forums quickly becomes a 30 page spamthread with people who desperatly wants to see their own (chars.....) name in writing.

A point system would never work because the larger alliances/corporations would control the forum. It's very easy to get a lot of your friends to mindlessly click a button.

Well, not that I would like to see a points system, but considering we do have other reasons to delete posts such as replies to anotehr post we delete, it would result in a lot of innocent people being banned.

Personally, I wouldn't suggest a point system be tied to anything of the sort (banning, post deletion, etc). Just that it gives players the control (againt to use the example of Digg or Slashdot) to see the higher rated stuff versus the lower rated stuff.
Is there the possibility for someone's corp/alliance to censor posts of someone else? Sure, but there's nothing which forces people to use the system at all, since they could configure their preference to read everything.
Or maybe we're just overthinking a solution to a problem which doesn't exist. :D

I've noticed ISD lately locking and being pretty diligent about the edit hammer lately and I think they're doing a good enough job keeping much of the garbage down. Obviously some people don't like it, but some people don't like flowers and bunnies.

Or just introduce "Report this post button" like commersial forum applications provide.
Is it any particular reason why you insist on using a homegrown forum?

Perhaps a nice warning Popup before posting would be fair

Because CCP are cheap and don't wanna pay anyone for the license.
