Hello, I'm Serathu, the Captain of CRC responsible for the Corporation, Organisation and Alliance Discussions forum.
As has been brought up, there are increasing numbers of people using one-person corporations to circumvent the alt-posting rules and write trolling/flaming replies to threads. We are also aware that there are some legitimate one-person corporations within the political sphere of EVE and the voice of these shouldn't be suppressed in this forum.
Posts that are trolling or flaming in nature are already covered by the existing forum rules. If you see a post that you feel is against the forum rules, please email us with a direct link to the offending post so that we can take any necessary action.
I must remind you that posting trolling/flaming replies to a post by *any* forum user is simply unacceptable and leaves you at risk of receiving a forum warning or ban.
Rest assured that we are monitoring this situation and making every effort to keep discussions clean and within the forum rules. If you feel that you would like to assist us with this, please do send in an application to join the Interstellar Services Department.
I will leave this thread open for people to ask any questions regarding this however please do remember that discussions of specific situations are not permitted on the forums and should be conducted by email.
Thank you for your support!

I liked reading COAD for a time there, then these one man posters ruined it for everyone. Expect many emails in the coming days and please hand out week long game bans! _____________________________________ Check out my poorly written blog at RantingsofaCarebear.blogspot.com |

What of the proposal to utilize this (or another, newly-created) forum exclusively for alliance-level discussions, and use another forum for mixed ones?
Why doesn't the forum code AUTOMATICALLY block people from posting in noobcorps or without corporation or alliance tickers showing?
Why do links to Kugu's site (to name one example) or usage of terms related to certain classes of trains get instantly moderated, whereas killboard links stay up for days? (My email is down, so I'm not able to send a request in to CRC to clean up the thread as I normally would.)

I cannot comment on changes made to website as that is not my area.
With regards to your other question, please do understand that we are volunteer moderators and as such cannot read every post made - this is why I ask that if you see something that you believe is against the forum rules you email us with a link to bring it to our attention.

Edited by: FlailofFury on 12/04/2007 04:15:10 I don't know how it currently works but when you ban a person from posting is it character or account based. If it is the first it should be changed to the later to make people think twice about trolling/flaming with alts.
Edit: Irony is I forgot my corp tags

PS: My corp is a 1 man corp, and it had to be made for trading purposes.

As has been stated, we are not taking action against people who are in single-person corporations. What has been said is that the existing trolling/flaming rules cover the current problem posts and that they will dealt with by these rules. What we need are alerts to posts that break these rules so that we can deal with them promptly.
Constructive posts from single-person corporations and any other corporation member for that matter will be allowed in this forum.

Edited by: Djinn Sling on 12/04/2007 06:47:20 What I'd like to see is a separate forum channel, which can only be posted to by 1 designated rep from each alliance, plus the mapmakers, just containing battle/war reports. Smack and propaganda free if at all possible.
I know that a lot of the posts on CAOD are simply trying to undermine the morale of the enemy, or to boost the morale of the friendly faction, but it gets wearisome wading through pages and pages of playground posturing.
These are my own views btw, I don't speak for my corp or alliance. |

Sorry but i read your post and i'm sad to say that you are not the person that need to post this. Like you said you have no power over the code of the site, so you and the other ISD will be working harder, that is appriciated but is not a solution. A solution would be to change the code to reduce the amount of daily work you guys do in order to make you more free to handle the cases where it need human intervention stuff like If the last post in a thread is older then a month then posting in a thread send the thread to be aproved by moderator. If the user don't have Corp/alliance show up then his block from posting automaticly. If the user tag show his in NPC corp then he is block from posting. If a user charcter age is less then X time (say a month) then he can't post.
Those code changes are really not that hard to be implmentad and they the first step that really need to be done to show that CCP care about this site, we know that the ISD guys care cuse they work for free and spend there own time to help us enjoy the forum.
If i post something smart it represent my corp and alliance all other posts are my feeling/ideas only and do not represnt the rest |

The mdos would probably like this to happen, but the mods are just volounteers that doesn't write forum code or anything. There is, however, the web cell- sounds like a useful task for them tbh. -----

Edited by: Rasterman Ganja on 12/04/2007 10:47:39 Great, so now I have to take my mining account, my #1 account, make an alt, and put it in this corp for my shooty-shooty #2 account, so I can have a 2-man corp. Who's going to pay the bill for all this paperwork?!?
If I have to start a third account so I can have two co-main corps ally with each other, I'm going to be extremely perturbed!!

So far as I can tell.. Serathu is saying: a) They are aware of alt corps b) They can't do anything about them because some people have valid 1 person corps c) Posts that are trolling or flaming will be moderated like they always have been
So whats everyone so happy about?
The universe is hostile, so impersonal, devour to survive, so it is, so it's always been.

Originally by: Unbeliever Kresmoreen Was at work, viewing (err, on my break Embarassed) the next array of crap alt posting. And its fantastic to see Serathu and his merry mans (and womens if theres any?) putting in some new rulings.
But how necessary is it?
Point being: Other forum communities have strict rules on how the deal with trolls. Mostly being, completely ignore their existence. If you never respond to them, their posts are useless. They're AIMING to troll you. Every time you bite they get their little charge.
I suggest a "Poster First" approach.
That is, every new thread, check who posted it. If its Seleene (MC), SirMolle (well, these are optional Razz), someone easily recognisable as a main, OR someone with whom you had a previous conflict/event/whatever(e.g. someone actually at said battle possessing the guts to post with their mains), sweet. Replies are warranted.
If its "Imanalt" from the "Another Caod alt factory" corp, you can stop reading right there. I.e. Reading further will only result in disgust, and possibly you retorting in kind. Click another link, download some ****, whatever. Just dont read their garbage.
Not sure how 'pr' it would be, but perhaps even posting 'NSFM' to identified alt posts would be another effective deterrent, for the less wary CAOD poster. Not a thousand spaces and then NSFM (Not safe for mains) or anything equally as trollworthy. Just a tag to identify a post as alt and therefore not to be replied to. To be reposted if people start to post actual replies/retorts.
And equally, before clicking 'reply' to valid posts with multiple replies, make sure (as much as possible) the person you're responding to is a main.
Self policing > Volunteer mods having to wade through multitudes of crap just to keep the forums clean.
This has been a public service announcement in conjunction with the Whine News Network and Jita Local.
Anything that would extend/improve the idea (im sure I missed valid points!) feel free to add 'em.

How about a technological approach, getting some better forum software that includes a killfile or ignore-file that you can *PLONK* and drop offenders into. Once there, you don't see their posts anymore. Would save the forum mods a lot of headache from determining what really is a troll or crap alt post, and what is simply something some easily offended individual doesn't like and is trying to nanny out of existance.

I don't think that locking a thread that has been started by a player that shouldn't be allowed to post in here anyways is a measure enough.
Those threads should be deleted, like 10-15 minutes after locking. Look at this forum... there are 10 garbage threads on the first page that don't deserve this space. Should them be kept for clutter?

First post doesn't make a point.
It is only mentioned that you are aware of these alt posters, and that you don't want to silence people like me who are legitimate 1-man-corp players, but fail to state what you actually are going to do about any of it - only that flame posts are against the rules which has always been the case.
