It has been some time since I have played, and bringing myself back up to speed on scripts, scripting, what is allowed and what is not, I don't understand why CCP are allowing the obvious spamming of the local channels in the trade hubs, jita, amarr etc by obvious scripted bot controlled accounts.
Why is action not taken, obviously 99% of it is scams, which are allowed, but the automation of such shouldn't be permitted, should it? |

Bots are not permitted. However, a lot of local spamming is actually done manually.
An example, was some jita cam spammer where you would see on the twitch that he was manually spamming.
That being said, some of them are bots and some of them are rather easy to spot. If you spot these, you just report them for botting. Reported one yesterday, that had a stable pattern and an automated input every 19 seconds. Submitted a ticket and learned that apparently there is an option to report bots in-game.
Here are the steps submit a bot report:
- Right click on the character you wish to report and select show info. - Click the button in the upper-left corner of the character information screen to open the action menu. - Select GÇPReport BotGÇ£. |

Action IS taken if someone REPORTS them
Click character->top-left menu->Report Bot.
Trust me, it works.
However they do have to be breaking the EULA in terms of acquiring stuff at an accelerated rate rather than just spamming scams which nobody falls for.
You can also get the "anti-spammers" who spam whitespace/images muted if you ask nicely too
tl;dr CCP does in fact take action but not pro-actively on local spam/scams driven by macros

This is good to know, also to know of the reporting method. It is rather interesting, so much has changed over the years, yet it has all been added to, rather than the UI rewritten in a more intuitive style. Surprised they didn't go back over old methods, probably old programmers not there anymore, and no one willing to touch the code. |

Its not really feasible to monitor all of the local traffic and analyse it to see if there's a repetitive event leading to "increased acquisition of stuff" given the multiple ways there are to do this. Jita market @ 2100 system pop is horribly slow already.
Don't get me wrong it is entirely do-able but it'd cost more than it'd be worth if you see what I mean? Eve has a rep as the "anything goes for PvP" space MMO anyway.
So report the ones you suspect & CCP will take a look without grinding the blades to a halt
Worth pointing out that Jita spambots are rarely that simple, they normally rotate the scam/spam and have a pseudo-random interval (within fairly short boundary conditions) to repeat. Thats pretty easy for CCP to detect if you report the bot.
However do remember this is Eve. Much of what you think you know, you don't. This is true of everyone

Whoa. Is that new? Nope I mean. Last time I looked for a way to report bots was two years ago. Can I report people that spam crazy **** in local, like incredibly loud (ear destroying loud) noise videos in local?

Everything else requires a petition.

I've only seen the isk spam option and it's the one I use by default. Didn't know there was a proper option for general spam/bot |

There was a period of time when they actually sat in jita kicking them off of the game, not sure if they were banned too

When it comes to bots / macro usage some of them are actually pretty easy to spot, it just depends on how much time you spend noticing them and not just jump to the conclusion that its a bot straight away. Theres one in jita thats pretty obvious at the moment, the past 3 days it has been spamming the same text with no interaction with any other person other than potential wallet transactions due to people falling for it. |

If you've been using "report isk spam" by default, then you're doing it wrong. This is reserved for people trying to sell isk, ie RMT. Abuse of reporting methods can land you in hot water, so it's best you don't use it as your default reporting measure.

Technically they can open up the in-game Notepad and type in their text bits, then cut/paste each one to the channel manually, and in that case they're not a bot.
However, some of them do bot, and it just bugs out on them, sending different message literally every 2 seconds isn't actually doable manually.
Simplest option is to just minimize the channel so you don't see it. Second simplest is to block them; about 50 blocked people will make the channel completely quiet in Jita. You can also report the ones that you think are bots.
Some of them were asking (as a joke, I think) for people's logins and passwords, I reported those, as it's against the EULA to try to trade accounts. |

I vaguely remember Chribba did a monitoring of Jita local and something along the lines of the top posters were doing it more than humanly possible. As in 24/7 posting or posting etc.
Yet nothing was done on CCP's part to put an end to it.
Edit... As yes. There was an article about it:
https://www.themittani.com/features/chribbas-jita-spam-bot-research
4 years later and still nothing done about local bots.

An option to hide chat so that you only see the chat channel member list would be awesome. It would save some precious screen space. |
