Do you hear dem dead people too?
I always do.
As a kid I was told dat life after death will be sittin' 'bove the clouds, listenin' wot the livin' care 'bout. Hehh, dem almost been right. It's just the dead. Wherever I go, dem keep chittering. Dem dreams. Dem hopes. Dem achievments. *spits* Dem pains. Funny thing are da dead.
I'm dead too now. So you do hear them dead too.
How's death treating ya? Got all the glory n' fame n' comfy stuff ya were hoping from eternal life?
Not that I care deeply. Had dem philosophical moments ya know. Long trips do that. Maybe just thought fiddlin' with comms might turn out to be amusing. Has an ethernity to pass. Who could ask for more, ehh? |

Once upon a time, I died in a wrong place.
Got spirits talking to me afterwards. Telling me that I must kill.
Had to properly, really die to silence them. I hope that's for good, or I'd still be ganking pods in Amarr with Funk. Because people are dumb and it's the easiest way to kill them.
Don't listen to the dead, they are up to no good. A glass of Thukker Single Malt and they go away.

Yebo Lakatosh wrote:Doubt there is a point in it. Just me humbe way of probing dem locals. Dem immortal Bosses and Lords of the Universes sounds like a lovely bunch. From a distance. So, first, immortality? Probably a little overstated.
It's more like we're theoretically indefinite than that we're immortal. Our class has existed in more or less the way we do now for maybe just over a decade, and there aren't a whole lot of those who were here at the start still around. Not that they've died; more like retired. But the whole "direct transfer with no significant data loss" thing depends on being in pretty much laboratory conditions. The spaces inside our pods have those; the rest of the world, though, mostly doesn't.
Secondly? Uh-- pilot, I realize this is a debatable question, but, speaking for myself, I don't see myself as dead any more than immortal. If I have a spirit, it's still housed in living flesh.
I breathe. I have to breathe. If I don't breathe, I'll die (or else pass out and immediately start breathing again, which might or might not help depending on what I'm breathing). I have a heartbeat. It's a different heart every few days, on average, but it still pumps blood.
I'm far from detached from this world, and I never expect to experience any other. In even the two short years I can still remember, I've seen and felt, with wrenching intensity. I've known both love and heartache.
I'm in no way dead. Just, I've occasionally woken up in a different body. I'm in no way immortal; I'm still something transient. Just, a little more resilient: my mind's presence in this world isn't dependent on just a single pulse anymore.
For me, the dead are silent. |

Nothin' to debate here, we could only chew on dem semantics. Such things be a matter o' perspective really. A scientist will neva see da Spirit. I might say who dies bes dead. Others might say who thinks 'bout this lives. No such thing as 'right', am I right?
But I be sure if ya landed in the village I born at, the elders would erect a temple before you could excuse yerself of being a tad bit transcient. Or they started a Holy War, depending on the looks of ya ship me guess.
But what do I know. Can't think fo' a silly enough metaphore for someone who's immortal since two nights. But definately silly if ya think of it. |

I do not hear dead people.
I do hear the machine spirits, though. All the thrums, all the hums, all the grinds, even the near-imperceptible ones. I pay attention to them. They tell me things. Misalignments in the servos, glitch in the electronics, leaks in the pipes, jams in the fuel rod controls, hairline cracks in the plating. I heed them. It is kind of my job and duty to heed them. If I ignore them, one problem will combine with another and the machine spirits will shriek as the entire system collapses.

As I've noted before, some traditional Mannar families (such as my own) observe the ancient practice of preserving our ancestors in their sepulchres, so that they may sit at table again on Ancestors' Day and be part of the family discourse. Perhaps M. Lakatosh's clan observe similar reverence for their dead?
Though a closet seems rather small, I agree. We tend towards rather grand and baroque crypts, but my understanding is that in prehistory, stone boxes covered with deep sand were common receptacles. Perhaps this could be the nearer translation of 'closet', as he does exhibit an idiosyncratic dialect.
One might also note that there are many capsuleers who apparently have hangars full of collected corpses, held merely as trophies. I can't see why anyone would keep the cadaver of someone unrelated to them for company, but the cluster has many diverse cultures.
Humanity has won its battle. Liberty now has a country.

Don't send them to just any customs office. You have to go to the Callie Immigration office, get in the blue line, take a number, go to the waiting room (enjoy the exotic dancers and complimentary liquor while you wait), and complete the immigration process legally. Really, telling them to just show up at any old customs office....

I spoke to a dead man once. Sort of.
It turns out that when a Merc isn't within range of a CRU or MCU when he dies it's a bit like a pilot dying outside of their pod. The information currently in their head isn't sent back to the data stack, so they pick up where the left off last time.
It's... pretty weird, meeting someone who you know and owe a lot but who's never actually met you. Was glad to see he's doing all right for himself though. |
