So as a new Alpha I was out recently just exploring the vastness of EVE when I happened upon an Orca mining with drones in a high security system named Hageken. I loitered in the belt for a minute just watching him/her and tweaking my overview. Apparently I breached some sort of etiquette, as the pilot started accusing me of being a "ganker spy".
The Pilot, one Codex Biovector, got pretty nasty with me about "spying" on him. He must have gotten scared of my shiney new frigate ship. He warped away to a citadel he claims to own and stayed there the rest of my visit, all while hurling false accusations and conspiracy theories at me. Says he will send people to hunt me. Ahahahaha! Very immature, but I understand it happens in online games.
Well this made me decide to subscribe to an Omega clone so I could begin my real EVE experience!
This brings me to my questions:
How powerful is this guy? (He claims to have been some hotshot with an organization called BOB) How does a new player know what mercenary groups can be trusted to fight this guy? And are there any groups willing to take in a new pilot and train him to fight in high security wars? Can a player owned citadel even be killed in high security systems? Will a mercenary corp even bother doing business with a new player?
I am stil researching as much info as I can find, but any suggestions would be appreciated. Maybe we can chat in game if you have information and don't want to discuss it here.
Thanks guys! |

The fact that a comment has been appended below the current blog post on the MinerBumping website - by one calling itself the very same 'Codex Biovector' mentioned by the OP, basing out of Hageken and inviting members of the ganking community to 'stay out' if they don't wish to lose a 'Cataliyst' - tempts me to ignore the remainder of this thread completely.

My first thought was someone is trying to frame this guy and posted under his moniker on minerbumping to get him wardec'd without having to pay for mercs. But then I read the comments on his evewho page and now I'm seriously confused and don't know what to think anymore...
I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it.
Yes, I do feel bad about it.

You're doing fine (thanks for the comment - that's the spirit!)
If you're a genuinely new player, your 'research' should hopefully have yielded the information that corps like EVE University, Karmafleet, Pandemic Horde, RvB and Brave Newbies - are all known to accept and train new players. I can't vouch for them all, but that should get you started. As for the PvP aspect, some folks swear by Faction Warfare as an introduction.
Your urge to deal out damage is highly commendable; don't lose it, channel it into becoming the sword of justice you clearly wish to see wielded against tossers calling themselves things like 'Codex Biovector' (snicker). Mercs? forget it.
Well I hope that helps to reduce a little the 'deficit' of helpful words .

I have looked into EvE University, and that looks like the clear choice to learn all the minuet of EVE. I am way to impatient for that.
As for the newbie null groups, I am indeed interested in living where anyone can shoot you any time.
And vice versa.
The reason I am here asking about mercenaries is, I was (fingers crossed) hoping a few interested parties would mail me. I will also be reaching out to the war deccers, in game, but with my impatience and all.
Thanks for the advice. You seem to be affiliated with some rather brazen pilots. Or I could just be paraniod already. |

The New Order of Highsec, headed by the notorious yet beneficent James 315, is the group of 'brazen' pilots I'm pleased to call comrades-in-arms.
Mercenary corps/alliances are very expensive to hire - though they will do the job you require. These days they seem to blanket-wardec swathes of groups, just in order to grab some content.
Your impatience is probably going to be your biggest obstacle though. If you can weather it, just make a note that he's for future demolition; gather every bit of intel you can on him, his alts, his operations, so that when the time does come (and it will), you can execute the perfect kill yourself. But it will take time.
Be aware (and I mean this kindly) that bellyaching about an enemy in this sub-forum especially, rather than figuring out a way to dispatch him yourself, is likely to be met with scorn. EVE is a vast and complex game and there exist within it the tools to do many nasty things. Part of the fun is finding the tools and learning how to use them.
Of course, if you just want to cut straight to 'I win', I won't try to dissuade you, but there's a chance you'll be disappointed.
So, why not join a new-player-friendly corp and, when you get to know your fellow corpies fairly well, suggest they help you in your mission to rid the world of that Codex fellow?
Others in the sub-forum may be able to provide better advice - I'm extremely patient by nature. |

Mr Forskin, your OP got me a little curious, and now I know why. That "Hello Space Friends" with capital letters, it reminded me so much of an older player who used to play this lovely and terrible little game a while ago. If I remember correctly, his name was Lyris Nairn- he was 8 ft tall, strong as a bull and could shoot lazors out of his eyes. You don't happen to know him?

Red Forskin wrote:my questions:

How does a new player know what mercenary groups can be trusted to fight this guy? Ask around about mercs, depends what you want done, some are good for blockading the hub's and pipes, others active and focused hunting. Good places to start would be the adds here in c&p, any of the ones older than a couple of months and they're probably stable.
And are there any groups willing to take in a new pilot and train him to fight in high security wars? Good question.
Can a player owned citadel even be killed in high security systems? Oh yeah.
Will a mercenary corp even bother doing business with a new player? If said newbro can pay then most likely.
As stated, I'm not soliciting anything here, just giving you my .02 isk

I guess Sasha is right, I will probably be disappointed if I just hire mercs. I am still looking for someone to maybe actively pursue this guy for a week or two for some ISK.
So for now it seems that I will need to join FW or something to make that dank isk so I can afford them.

Mo can teach you lots. Look him up in game.
As for mercs.....AFAIK just to hire somebody from the Big Boys costs around a billion ISK. Some will charge you more if the target is a citadel.
Reliable Big Boys include Vendetta, Devil Warriors Alliance, and possibly Marmite.
As for corps you should look at Brave, RvB, and if you're desperate E-UNI. Yeah, the Uni teaches you about EVE, but they lack in PVP skills (aside from 'ECM tank ftw' doctrine). They also have tons of rules.
And IIRC rolling a new alt to avoid forum bans can get you permabanned, Holy. Keep it up please.

Eve University does not teach PvP whatsoever, no matter what they tell you.
When I was in, I did their 'lowsec campus' to learn PvP.
What did that entail? Easy...
Go to lowsec with a bunch of ships and proceed to lose them, like what all good solo pvpers tell you to do anyways. Looking back now, E-Uni really did not teach me a damn thing about Eve Online. I learned all I know from the corporations that came afterward, especially Peace.Keepers (still love you guys!). They taught me PvP... |
