You're missing the point. The OP is not a trolling post, more's the pity. Instead, it would seem, they honestly do not comprehend the way that EVE has been created and has evolved. While we're at it, let's just stop the mindless WoW-bashing... it's really not very constructive, and it's not like the 2 games have anything in common beyond a monthly subscription.
To the OP- PvP, love it or hate it, is the driving force in EVE. Whether on the market or in space, players are competing with each other. Making PvP any more consensual than it already is would erode this basic principle and have a hugely negative impact on the game.
I've seen posts recently claiming that restricting non-consensual PvP would lead to an increase in the number of subscribers... that may be so, but the game that they were signing up for would no longer be the EVE that many (most?) of us love, and that the devs have worked hard to create.
It is actually quite staggering that so many people seem to miss the point. Perhaps- as others have suggested further up this thread- we need some tweaking of the tutorial to reinforce the brutal realities of what might happen to a player whenever they undock. |

Originally by: Auritt Make PVP consentual except for corps who are at war with each other and at a stroke the game experience is improved for most players. And with no investment in hardware from CCP.
The current situation is akin to a modern city centre surrounded by slums. In the centre there is law and order for the most part and people feel safe. Surrounding it are the slums where decent people risk robbery, intimidation and even murder.
Consentual PVP in Eve means an end to Empire congestion as we leave our over populated systems. How many LowSec systems have absolutely no one in them? Quite a few. People won't leave Empire to risk losing ships and equipment it has taken them months to acquire. Build in this feature and Eve is opened up for most of the player population to adventure.
One concern some of the LowSec corps may have would involve Empire people colonising systems they have worked so hard to settle within. Here the solution is already at hand in the form of corporation wars. An invading Empire corp would have to fight or negotiate for the rights to settle the system.
The number of systems in Eve is easily big enough to accommodate the 30 thousand players in Eve. With consentual PVP the process of evening out the number of players between Empire and LowSec can be accomplished.
Motivators for Empire players to move to LowSec include; eliminating the lag of Empire, placement of lvl 4 (and soon lvl 5) agents in LowSec, Minerals, more challenging NPC targets.

Realistically, you cannot expect CCP to do this. I think your arguments about not being ganked equating to lower lag, show that you simply don't have an understanding as to how Eve works.
People get ganked in Jita, it doesn't prevent them from continuing to fly Zydrine filled haulers through there. It's not safety that's causing people to flock to empire, it's the provision of goods and services. If you made NPC's give 5x the bounties in 0.0 or 0.1, and goods for 1/5th the amount, people would flock there PvP or not.
Look at UO. They split the game down the middle with a PvP and Consensual-PvP mirror on each shard. When they did this, the subscriber base started to decline and it has never recovered.

Sure we could war dec the player corps but what about all the macro miners and NPC corp players that would migrate down to low sec if Pvp was consensual. We wouldn't be able to do a damn thing about them under your suggestion.
Hi, mission running carebear here. I am against this 'consensual PvP' idea. An above poster said it correctly - "You consent to PvP when you log in to the game."

imagine for a second there was a second Eve shard. a PvE shard where all PvP was consentual.
it would be filled with miners busily mining 0.0 - happy and safe - greedily filling their holds with nice minerals to build shiny new ships to sell to.. who exactly? all the combat pilots are on Tranquility where they can actually kill people, despite having to fly around in noobships because all the carebears ****** off. Without PvP the Eve economy wouldn't work and the whole thing would fall to pieces.
People will take your shiny toys and smash the ******* **** out of them, you go off and buy a new one and kick their **** off in retribution. It's the circle of life, like the Lion King and ****.

But what would make Low-Sec, lower sec and 0.0 sec space dangerous, if it wasn't for the masters, gankers, spankers and other assorted reprobates.
For the record I like Pirates, Ore Thieves, Scammers and assorted Gankers, because they add a level of threat.
Stick to High Sec space, and you'll have no trouble with non-consentual PVP. The lower the Sec, the higher the reward, but also the greater the dangers. Just ignore the ore thief, and write off the jumped wrecks and you'll be fine.

The OP must be from a newer generation of EvE players who think of Empire as a safe place. When I started, Empire was actually more violent because thats where people lived. Then the whole sec. status thing was introduced to try to tone it down. If anything, I wish the game would roll back some of those protective measures - especially in the now empty so ccalled low sec spacce. . .

There should be a place, somewhere in the game, where noobs can learn, get their feet wet, and at least make a little headway financially, before they have to deal with non-consensual PvP. The EVE universe is vast...surely, among the 5000-someodd systems in this game, there should be somewhere where a new player can at least learn to drive before they find themselves in the Indianapolis 500, no?

Dont forget that all pod pilots in eve started in safe area, then realizing the richness of o.0 we moved on out. Great rewards come with great risk. Eve is so great becasue of this. Just say no to consensual PvP

If it was up to me I'd even increase the risks and the realism. Make it so that if you get podded your character dies and you have to start over. Now that would be something!!!!

EvE in a nutshell.
The day PvP in EvE comes consentual, is the day Blizard buys CCP. When that happens, EvE: The Second Genesis will be renamed to World Of Warcraft: Boring Space Adventure, and millions of leetspeaking kiddies will smack in local so hard the server will selfdestruct. The explosion will destroy Iceland completely and make it sink to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. Global panic will ensue as thousands of EvE addicts, who are now freed from their dark, moisty basement, are set lose on this world, eventually killing the human race.
In other words, it'll never happen.
