Hi,
I've been playing on & off and I'm still learning the game and soloing right now... I have two questions that boggle my mind:
1. Can anyone tell me the advantages that the "LocatesAreUs" channel service has over the regular NPC locator agents? It just seems that the later is more reliable, why wouldn't anyone use the NPCs all the time to find someone?
2. If the NPC locator agents are more reliable, then how do the intelligence career paths (human spy roles) get their money? Is PvE spying even possible?
The reason I'm asking these two questions, it's because I would have thought that in ideal circumstances, a career path into intelligence gathering would allow you to sell your info to NPCs who then sell them to players, (or even cut through direct sales without NPCs) but now I'm not sure how spies get money in this game and what kind of info they sell. I've heard they do exist though... |

As far as I'm aware, LocatesAreUs uses the locator agents to get intel. It's basically a service for those who don't have standings for a level 4 locator, or would rather not have to fly over to one. |

Ok, I understand now... That the locator agents are not available for everyone... That didn't cross my mind...
So when they refer to a career in espionage (for PvE), is that mostly having high standings and just doing the above, or are there alternative ways to get money? |

Funny you should mention this, cause i'm coding a character database.. I don't think i'll get iskies by knowing where/when people are, or what they usually fly, what they previously said, etc.. cause the persons who'd look for that kind of info will have to verify my data anyway.
The spying done is usually deep cover agent types, or awoxers, who'd position themselves into place where stealing or ransoming something is possible.
Why sell information to strangers that this-or-that corp is vulnerable to awoxing when you (or with your other gamer friends) can get all the stuff 100%? How do you put a price on that kind of information to be sold to others? etc.. etc..

Basically Locator Agents are used to track other players. You need Corporation or Faction standing to access Locator Agents. The amount of standing depends on the Agent level. Different level Agents have different locate range and ISK fee for service.
Main problem with using a high level Locator Agent is the cooldown timer. For up to date info while tracking a target, due to the cooldown timer players would need to travel to another Locator Agent which might take them further away from their target. To be able to track a target easily, players would need to have high standings with all Locator Agents throughout New Eden which is very time consuming..
This is where the player run service you refer to comes into play. It has other players in the channel that will access their Locator Agents to give you more up to date info about the target you're tracking. That way you don't have to wait for a cooldown timer or travel to another Locator Agent.

When you hear all your buddies in BRAVE talk about "spais," they're talking about implanting alts in enemy corps to gather intelligence on them.
There is no mechanic for you to fly around gathering info on people which you can then sell to locator agents, or anything like that. |
