Simple really, remove the overview.
Bring back the old school way of fighting, were pretty much any large scale battle was a complete mess as you actually have to LOOK around you to find the target instead of just right click on the overview. :)
Your thoughts? :P

i like it some pirates even tell me that they sometimes have trouble finding where I warped in and without overview they would not even hit me (lo sec)

This idea is almost too ludicrously good to be true. As a bonus, it also gets rid of the lag caused by the overview!

maybe remove overwiev in low- and nosec but keep in empire. if you enter lowsec there should be more danger.
maybe remove the local in lowsec and nosec too and replace for constellation channels.
and as a second increase rewards in lowsec please.

What about something that makes it more beneficial shooting at multiple targets instead of one, removing the purpuse of huge huge fleets in blob fights. Something in line of giving a penalty for signatur size (decreasing it on the target) for each active agressive module on it Sig removed. oh yeah, great idea.. then we can also remove all the other gadgets that you would think is reasonable with the tech in EvE. Like warp, jumpgates and ECM. That stuff is not oldskool. :)

Reduce each ship to one weapon mount and have it do 2 to 8 times the damage depending on how many weapons it used to be able to hold. After that, let the servers keep track of ship's position to calculate whether the ship hits the target or hits something in the weapon projectile's path.

Yup, it is. Totally 100% signed. Don't remove the overview though, just make it display dtationary objects (stations, roids, gates, belts, mission/POS structures) and no longer any ships.

What about making the overview generated by a module. The module uses a high slot and lots of cpu. So if you want an overview, you have to do some sacrifice for it.

I'll /sign that.
No firing through objects would be better to reduce the blob and add a hedgeload of tactics at the same time, but this works as a cheap and cheerful alternative.

The idea, in theory, has merits. Though it wouldn't really 'remove' focussed fire, just slow it down somewhat.

Just decrease your chances to hit anything if you yourself is under fire, that'd be an incentive to put as many of the enemy under fire as possible.

I like the overview 'cause it tells you all sorts of interesting things like transversal, velocity, etc, so I'd rather not get rid of it. Removing the ability to lock using the overview would accomplish the same thing, I would think.

An while you are at it, remove the regionwide market too. Make it so you have to dock at a station to find out if a particular module is sold there. That would be so much fun, wouldn't it?

Or have only the targets locked show in the overview. As the target is locked then you are able to determine its attributes such as transversal etc.

I suppose my only issue with this is lag, and folks with older PCs that can barely keep up with fights at it is. With ships moving around as fast as they are, a slight dip in framerate will make it nearly impossible to accurately target anything that's faster moving.
I can appreciate the call for a more old-school style of gameplay, but removing the overview now would be like removing the donut interface and forcing you to right-click your ship to fire a gun or open your cargo hold.

Each side would use a "zoomed out max, view from above" view and focus fire on the nearest targets first, but I agree focused fire need to have it's impact lesened somehow...

I love the idea of removing the overview! Fighting would be so much more interactive and real if you had to actually look in space to find targets instead of just ctrl-clicking names in your overview that someone calls out in teamspeak.
Please CCP consider this, or something like it.

i like the idea of removing the overview. but this brings the problem how to target an fast interceptor orbiting you. thats nearly impossible.
maybe let ships appear on overview if they are within a close distance... say 10 km. (although the intys would probably orbit at 11 km then).
someone could think of a solution for this issue?
