The son is now playing on a trail account and he has made an ammar pilot. What he relly wants to have is a pilot that blasts awway at npc in missions using missiles. He saw one gang team I was on and watched a larger ship just utterly destroy the enemy battle cruisers in quick succession.
So a few questions:
1). What are the strengths of the ammar race in term of combat?
2). are they made for shield or armor tanking? This is cirtical so I can begin to aquire the right skills early on.
3). What would be a good ship progression for him?
4). What misc modules, other than salvager, help fit out an ammar ship?
His skills have allowed him to jump right into a frigate and he has 2 so far, one is a blaster boat, I think the punisher and one that is almost pure missile platform. I need to help him develop a plan for the future of this pilot and since we only have 2 days and about 3 million isk's expended so far I feel we can stop and make a new pilot before we sink a huge amount of time into this one.
Thanks

Go for a Caldari Achura pilot and ignore anything but Caldari missile ships. He will blast through lvl 3 / 4 missions in no time.
Amarr is good for PvP when you reach high skill levels.

For running missions caldari (missile) ships are best, they also require the least skills to be good at missions in.
The starter race of the pilot isnt important to what ships you end up flying, e.g my character is caldari race but I left caldari ships a long time ago to specialise in amarr and lasers (when they used to be good )
Ship progression would be
Frigate :- Kestrel Level 1 missions Cruiser :- Caracal Level 2 Missions Battle cruiser :- Ferox/Drake (drake is better but more expensive) Level 3 missions Battleship :- Raven Level 4 Missions
It will probably take alot of skills/practise to fly the raven solo for level 4 missions, dont rush in to quick.
After you have flown all these and become rich you can try out the T2 ships and give up mission running and join a pvp corp
Hope thats of some use. Im no expert on missions I stop doing them some time ago just after the level 4 ones where introduced.

Put me in as another vote for cross-training Caldari.
Caldari ships have the winning combination of a good easy to fit tank, low SP needed to fly properly (concentrate only on missiles & shields). Missiles are really really really good for low SP PvE.
Another alternative is Gallente. They need a bit more skill to work. Here you can go with either shield or armor tanking. Drones just rip up low level missions. You start struggling in level 4s because of drone bugs however.
There is also the Amarr attempt at a Vexor (called the Arbitrator) to try out the Gallente approach.
