Is it possible to do so, and how feasible would it be?
I've done both a Google Search, and a Forum Search, but only turning up threads on the Steam Controller. Didn't want to assume that the same could apply to an XBox 360 one.

I'm trying to picture doing this and can't imagine why you would even want to.
I'm certain I could make it technically work in the sense that I'd be able to issue commands, etc.
I'm also sure I would die... horribly... comically... trying to actually do anything that way.

That was the impression I got about the Steam Controller. I was looking for a way to pilot manually in Space, and was hoping it would still be effective.

The only real way you can pilot manually would be via the arrow keys mapped to the appropriate settings. Pretty sure those settings couldn't be mapped to a gamepad, but mapping a gamepad to keyboard keys is rather easy. Other than that, you need to point-and-click for most things. Targets, ect. Once targeted I suppose more button-to-key maps could be made, but, so tedious. |

There just isn't a lot of actual utility in manual piloting. At least... not that kind of manual piloting. Double clicking in space Vs. using the built in orbit/keep at range/etc. certainly has merit in certain circumstances.
But actual steering? Fairly useless gimmick. Might have some limited application in bumping, but other than that, not so much.

Besides, if you are going to hotkey all your modules, you will need much more buttons than what the controller has for you. Especially on larger ships, in all likelihood, you will need to press more than four buttons to activate all your stuff. Then there's the additional key needed for overheat.
A Minmatar warship is like a rusting Beetle with 500 horsepower Cardillac engines in the rear, armour plating bolted to chassis and a M2 Browning stuck on top.

Just think about how useful a controller is with spreadsheet software and your question will answer itself.
When you don't know the difference between there, their, and they're, you come across as being so uneducated that your viewpoint can be safely dismissed. The literate is unlikely to learn much from the illiterate.

Many many moons ago I used a USB NES controller to play EVE...
You use a program called "X-Mapper" (no idea where to get it nowadays, or if there's a better one!) where you can program (just like macros on fancy gaming keyboards) any keyboard and/or mouse functions to any button /analog stick on a controller...

I set up a controller to play Eve with once, mostly just to see if I could make it work the way I did. I knew before I started that the experience was not going to be worth the effort and I was not wrong :p |

The only other peripheral other than a mouse and keyboard I want to use is my space mouse. Anything else just doesn't make sense given the gui. Camera control via a space mouse would be killer.

OP, look into software like x-padder. Next mess around with the keyboard short cuts for keyboard driven, manual space flight. Combine the short cuts with x-padder. Enjoy! |
