just wanted to say this before i leave once again. first off EVE is the best pvp experience available in mmorpgs today. i was exited to learn EVE was now free to play ,but sad to learn skills were behind a pay wall. my plan was to get my skills up then buy plex to get the ship i wanted to play . making players pay 20 dollars a month just to watch skills tick is unreasonable .it also is keeping alote of players with a plan like mine away .
restrict the ships in free to play but not the skill tree this only robs the game of revenue and future players. |

Wasn't unreasonable for the last decade, why all of a sudden is it now so? If as you say this is the best PvP to be had In the MMO scene then assuredly the ask for the full experience isn't all that great.

sure it is but for how long? but that is not my point. player population would be much higher if skills were not behind a pay wall. here is a little fact for you when eve first launched you could unsub and your skill tree would still keep growing. how is that for the full experience. |

Free EVE is basically a trial version. You gotta pay for the real thing.
All the high quality MMORPGs are subscription based for a reason. When your game is subscription based, you get reliable revenue stream to improve the game and you don't have to keep inventing things for whales to buy on your store or have to introduce so much pay-to-win just to stay alive.
It sounds like you basically just want to bypass the skill system (ie you'd prefer EVE-style PVP with a level playing field). Unfortunately, that's not really what this game is. If that's the case, I do understand the frustration because there aren't any other games with combat like EVE. But let's not change the game into something it's not. The game is meant to be actively played while you skill up. As much fun as it would be to see all the noobs who return after two years and get their shiny new carriers blown up, I don't think it would be healthy for EVE. |

If skills were not behind a paywall... it would completely break the character sale market and probably skill injectors too.
Train 3 characters to high levels of skill... get a plex... drain skills all at once and sell injectors. Go back to alpha for a while.
Now do that with 100 alpha accounts. |

Excellent business plan: dumb gullible gamers lured by the appeal of a single server where they can become a real icon or so they think, get scammed and scammed, buy PLEX after PLEX to offset the losses.
There's really no wonder why CCP coddles griefers: they make sure the whales keep buying.

This is news to me. I can barely afford my PvP gear!
Zoubidah Al-Kouffarde wrote:Excellent business plan: dumb gullible gamers lured by the appeal of a single server where they can become a real icon or so they think, get scammed and scammed, buy PLEX after PLEX to offset the losses. Underlined the misconception.
At no point does the game say that you will become an "icon." That is simply false expectations on the part of the player (which is, unfortunately, fed and reinforced by other games out there).
You are one of thousands of other players. You are not special. No more or less than the guy scamming or shooting you. You are no hero. Likewise, you are no villain. You have to perform actions and force others to see you as such. Just like everyone else. You have no special mechanics protecting you. The game will not guarantee your safety... only you can push it in that direction using the same tools as everyone else has access to. You have no right to anything in the game any more or less than the other guy flying in space next to you.
You are not entitled to be "left alone." The game is predicated on conflict. It is what makes industry function... your successes meaningful... your reputation what it is... cooperation with others necessary... etc.
There is no way to truly "win." Even if you do "win," you can have that success snatched away from you by others.
EVE is a "rat race." It is an eternal game of "king of the hill." To paraphrase a DEV; "Success is coveted by many, but achieved by few. And that is okay!"
That is why many of us here stick with the game.

Yes, completely and totally unreasonable. Good thing it's not true :)
Seriously, if you can't find anything to do in this game, even as an alpha, or a new Omega with just Alpha skills to start with, then you're not trying very hard.

Nope. Other mmorpgs do full loot pvp better. Other pvpmmorpgs require much more player skill than EVEs 1-3 button pvp combat. Winning fights in EVE is all about numbers and what ship you undocked in rather than player skill. Its a joke of a pvp game that real pvp gamers can't take seriously. |

Ofcourse. Such minor details as ship fitting and keeping cool under pressure doesn-¦t mean anything. You seem to think that the only type of battles which take place in EVE are either ganking and/or large fleet battles. I'd wager that the majority of battles are more in the form of small fleet engagements or even 1v1 and in those cases player skill makes a HUGE difference.
I remember playing a healer and a dps character in WoW instance raiding and all I say is that gameplay there felt completely mindless compared to EVE. |

Financially, Eve should be -
- No "free to play forever" accounts, 30 day Tech 1 access trial with a verified ID via credit card with a $1.00 verification fee. Free trial is limited to one per credit card, machine ID and IP address. OR (because I think the "Free-to-Play" is practically irreversible now....) - Free to play includes access to rookie ships (based on bloodline) and the accessories/item types/skills that can be used on them. No option for any ships/skills/item types higher than Rookie entry level ships. (This is for the casual player that wants to play only for social contact with friends or some other reason).
- Level 1 Account (rename as needed) - $4.99 a month (auto-pay renewal required) with full Tech 1 access to skills or item types as long as the account is in good standing. If account becomes delinquent in payment, skills are paused and they have 90 days to restart it or lose the account.
- Level 2 Account (rename as needed) - $9.99 a month (auto-pay renewal required) with full Tech 2 access to skills or item types as long as the account is in good standing. If account becomes delinquent in payment, skills are paused and they have 90 days to restart it or lose the account.
- Level 3 Account (rename as needed) - $14.99 a month (auto-pay renewal required) with full access to all skills or item types as long as the account is in good standing. This account is slightly different as it unlocks capital level skills, ships and item types (yes, the Orca too). If account becomes delinquent in payment, skills are paused and they have 90 days to restart it or lose the account.
The above prices are based on Auto-pay with a credit card and do not include an option to pay a full year at a time and get a 10% discount. I would love to have a higher rate for monthly fees but in today's world with other games so easy to get on your smart phone, it's not practical or sustainable.
I hope I didn't miss anything, please forgive spelling, etc. Now you can pay only $4.99 to initially "watch your skills tick" until you want better skills. If CCP actually looks at this and talks it over with their accounting dept, I'll "**** a brick". I better get a CCP jacket out of it, LOL! Just kidding. But if you send me one, I won't return it. :-) Just in case...CCP logo on the front, EVE ONLINE on the back. I'll wear it when I recruit more players at the local game stores.
Side Note: Micro transactions are the death nail to so many online games. Look up Gameloft financials as proof. I wasn't around at the time but I heard CCP tried them in 2012 and ditched them soon after.
EVE is eventually going to go belly up because of the sociopathic element community, it has a reputation for being a game where years of work can literally evaporate in seconds and there are players who take great delight in making this happen.

Yeah ok. And still, the single server aspect attracts people who think they will become famous, amongst those, are whales. Senseless scamming and ganking pushes them to buy PLEX to offset losses, sarcastic tear-harvesting makes them mad and buy more PLEX to try and get revenge / survive next time.
This is one the reasons why CCP coddles gankers and scammers, they make people spend more on the game: force them to get secondary accounts (at least to scout), and push them to buy PLEX to make up for their losses

As with most things, its not either/or. There are aspects of EVE PvP that are more unique and require a higher level of skill and competence. But there are other aspects of eve that are less unique and/or don't take nearly as much skill as some other pvp game does.
So you are both right and not right. Eve definitely does not do twitchy pvp at all, and many people define "skill" by twitch standards. How precise and rapid was my aim, how fast and accurately was able to move and shoot, etc. Eve's never going to compete there. It's not that type of game.
At the same time, EVE has a level of group tactics and preparation that are pretty unique. The complexity comes from the players, more than the mechanics. If you haven't been in a null sec war, then you really aren't in a good position to evaluation the full range of complexity of PvP at all. Having 10 different FCs in 10 different 50 person fleets each with a specific role to complete coordinating movement between each other takes tremendous skill. It's just not the same kind of skill that you seem to favor.
When you say 1-3 button pvp, I think you are ignoring a vast number of things. Such as defense through transversal velocity, ranging, ecm, eccm, gate and system tactics and more.
Again, I really think the issue is that EVE most certainly does not do some types of pvp better than other games. But it also offers some things in PvP that literally no other game does, in particular null sec coalition level warfare. It's obtuse to call that pvp "lesser" - its just different with its own areas where it is superior and inferior when it comes to the skill and technique required.

Same ****, just different player models.
Edit: Lol we even have the old everquest twitch mechanics with cap transfers. The sad thing is EvE started out without all this garbage and was a better game for it. You had you with your skills and your ship with its attributes. Fighting was about either using those two things to beat your opponent or gettign into groups of pilot + ship and using those individual things together.
Its like playing a flight simulator based on WWII and then the developers sudden putting items out there that allow you to repair another aeroplane in flight with a magic beam, or an item that you can activate to make your wingmans plane faster and suddenly have double the armor, its gamey, rubbish and lazy design and shows how much the developers decided to borrow from EQ, WoW or any of the other fantasy mmorpgs.

Not that I think a drastic modernization would be possible for the economy of Eve. But for someone who didn't grow up here, the business model feels archaic. |
