I'm curious about polarized weapons since they're out, I tried some fits with them but so far, except a 420 dps with 90% web daredevil, I haven't found a ship that can be good with, be it pve or pvp.
I would be very interested to try L4 for fun with them though, as anyone found a working ship and fit for them ?

I tried polarized Paladin and came to the conclusion that it's just not worth it - in general. Main issue aside from zero resists is the lesser range on all polarized turrets which robs you of DPS advantages in lot of cases. I've been usually getting very few missions which are super cool and easy/effective to do in a polarized Paladin. Every mission involving NPCs with good damage over 50 kms became unnecessarily annoying.
Now while I commend the guy in the video for doing good with the polarized Kronos, it does not seem to offer a lot more in terms of effective DPS over what i used. Just open EFT/Pyfa and compare his fit to the following one:
[Kronos, blaster pimp fit null] Shadow Serpentis Magnetic Field Stabilizer Shadow Serpentis Magnetic Field Stabilizer Shadow Serpentis Magnetic Field Stabilizer Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Tracking Enhancer II Core B-Type Large Armor Repairer Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II
Tracking Computer II, Optimal Range Script Tracking Computer II, Optimal Range Script Domination 500MN Microwarpdrive Heavy Capacitor Booster II, Cap Booster 800
Neutron Blaster Cannon II, Null L Neutron Blaster Cannon II, Null L Neutron Blaster Cannon II, Null L Neutron Blaster Cannon II, Null L Bastion Module I [empty high slot] [empty high slot] [empty high slot]
Large Hyperspatial Velocity Optimizer II Large Hybrid Burst Aerator II
Warden II x2 Hobgoblin II x5 Salvage Drone I x5 Hobgoblin II x5 Cap Booster 800 x15
Compare DPS at ranges with NULL and AM ammos while considering that the player in the video was keeping his targets mostly farther than 15 km away and decide for yourself if this kind of performance justifies flying that much ISK with this kind of EHP. |

As has been mentioned, other than niche rolls most polarized fits fair poorly when compared to their non-polarized counterparts. You almost always need to run these on Marauders exclusively, and they almost always gimp an otherwise outstanding performance in all areas.

Thanks for the answer, true that I was not seeing them other than on marauder, pretty sad considering how interesting fit they could bring with.
Maybe they could see a rebalance of some sorts, since how little they add compared to their rarity and prices, I would really be putting these things on faction frigates if they didn't cost 3 times the hull. On pirate ones they're only worth it on serpentis ships.

If you only knew the fiasco behind the original introduction of these weapons... They went through three name changes (the first was something like blighted) before player indifference forced them to finally adopt something less stupid. However, despite vastly negative evidence supporting anything other than a niche roll CCP plodded ahead and rolled out what was possible the dumbest weapon concept in the history of the game. Never underestimate the power of momentum with a bad idea once it gains traction...

I've found two uses for Polarized weapons thus far.
1: Structure bashing with Attack Battlecruisers. A handful of polarized Oracles, Talos and Tornados can demolish a POCO or undefended POS tower. 2: On my Drifter Response Battleship Response Battleship along with a Heavy Scram and 3x Webs, for tackling Drifters in C5 sites.
Aside from that, the only other real uses I've seen for them is for 'button sitter' destroyers in faction warfare plexes and the occasional polarized stealth bomber fits.

The EANM is only useless with a Polarized fit, which it wasn't. Still, I will give you that a reactive armor or damage control might be a better choice. The Kronos has a very good tank and doesn't need as much as a Vargur or Golem.

I think polarized weapons are pretty dank on stealth bombers. (edit: I know it's not related to the OP, but ya know xD. 1k DPS, 1k EHP frigates tickle my fancy). |

Polarized weapons are all but useless except in a very narrow set of conditions. They're basically Officer grade versions for a fraction of the cost but with heavy penalties.

For stealth bombers they would be perfect imo, but how strange the price of the polarized torpedo launcher are even way higher in prices than most of the other polarized weapons.
For now, except from a Daredevil and a Succubus I have nothing else. But yes they would make sense on a attack battlecruiser for bashing or with support.

Economics 101: all other things being equal, higher demand = higher price.
I'm not sure what the supply of polarized torpedo launchers is off the top of my head, but I highly suspect that the demand for them is pretty high because of how well they mesh with stealth bombers.
Back to the OP: polarized weapons are great for any application where you have the the skills for T2, need either more DPS or lower fitting requirements than T2, and either won't get shot at or don't care if you get shot at. Structure bashing, station/FW plex camping, certain PvE content, etc. all meet these requirements, but I wouldn't suggest them for general usage.

While it may be situational, I did see polarized Vindis eating up war targets in HS, in trade hubs/routes etc. When you have two or more polarised Vindis you will melt pretty much anything in high-sec quicker than it can kill you (vs. a single target anyway, which is usually what happens in high-sec war target ganks :p)
Also, a Vindi with three armor plates + HG slaves + 3 x T2 Trimarks hits just over 100,000 EHP (with 0 resist), where you get raw HP of 78,000 in armor alone.
I don't use them myself but where I saw them get used is when in war, someone undocks in nice tanky ship thinking he can survive for a while & redock/whatever, and then gets welped by 2 x Polarised Vindis.
Cheers Love! The cavalry's here!

I definitely noticed that on serpentis ships these weapons are really awesome, so yes the vindicator can definitely have a insane dps with a bufffer fit with it.
I guess the only reason we don't see them in incursion in HS is because FAX aren't available there to compensate for the repairs needed.

some of our wealthier and more experienced pilots will polarize their bombers when we are hunting larger targets. I don't tend to as the polarized torps are just to much isk to risk. (tbh i think more ppl would use polarized in general if it wasn't for the cost)
